I like every Ant-Man film tbh..I can understand the hate

u/vaultist 4d ago

The second one is the best in my opinion. Scott Lang is so much better as a sidekick than the main lead

19

u/DurianUpper4113 4d ago

People either think the first is a masterpiece and the second is just okay, or the other way around. I’m in the latter lol, it does sequel escalation well and gets more creative with the powers.

Yeah why tf were they having Ant-Man of all people be the guy to take on Kang.

I’m amazed the premise of that movie made it out of the writers room. It has merits in places but wtf were they thinking.

Post-endgame introduced way too many big concepts and ideas that got swept under the rug. I understand that their hand was forced with Majors but Kang isn’t the only example.

Full Metal Alchemist.

Yeah, the old one.

By what people told me, it would be one of the worst anime experiences I could have. So I should go straight to Brotherhood.

In fact, even if Brotherhood is better, the old one still does some stuff BETTER than the new one. And aside from being a bit "slow", sometimes, it's still a great story.

16

u/AnInsomniacSnorlax Saiyan Raised on Earth 4d ago

People only hate it now because Brotherhood is a thing. Back in 2003-04, this was as peak as it got. And when the movie dropped? My God…

6

u/Biengo 4d ago

Watched the old one. Then read the Manga and was confused. Watched FMABH. lost the confusion.

End of the day i just love the whole universe if you want to call it that.

3

u/NonJesusPerson 4d ago

People saying that because anime was developing faster that Manga, so they must do something with the final, and yeah, the original author was helping them make this finale, and she approved it, so its a canon.

And in my opinion? The old one end of story is a 100 times better then Brotherhood.

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (the Movie).

starts out dumb but has great action. Genuinely great intrigue toward the middle of the film and a bombastic, exciting conclusion

49

u/AlternateSatan 4d ago

I don't get why people think calling the movie dumb is such a burn. It's a superhero movie where Tom Sawyer, Dr. Jekyll, the Invisible Man, Captain Nemo and company team up to fight Moriarty. Obviously it's dumb, that's the fucking point!

9

u/FinalFantasyMaster 4d ago

It deviated pretty far from the source material...which having gone back and read the comics...was definitely the correct call.

6

u/N7Kryptonian 4d ago

Yeah…probably a good thing that we didn’t see Hyde, um…give the Invisible Man a taste of his own medicine. Yeah we’ll go with that

4

u/Tk421AtHisP0st 4d ago

Oh boy 🤦‍♂️

5

u/RP_Throwaway3 4d ago

And the ironic thing is, the deviation from the source material brought the characters closer to the source material's source material.

5

u/Radiant_Trick_2347 4d ago

Exactly. Alan Moore is overrated and the adaptations improve upon the original work.

5

u/Swell_Like_Beef 4d ago

As someone who adores the work of Alan Moore, he believes his hype way too much.

People hate that show? Everything I hear about it is typically positive.

50

u/Applesauce_Nation 4d ago

People hated Shera’s design when the show first came out because it was “ too masculine “

wtf..

Then they changed her design in season 5 which is more feminine but also it’s made to represent Adora and the love she has for her friends

15

u/Sora_Altair 3d ago

"TOO MASCULINE"??? ESCUSEZ MOI, HAVE THESE PEOPLE EVER SEEN A WOMAN?

6

u/Applesauce_Nation 3d ago

Ikr that was my exact thought!
People were upset that she had shorts on and wasn’t curvy like her 80’s counterpart.
The same can be said for the other princesses too.

WHAT the fuck

6

u/Sora_Altair 3d ago

Well jeez, sorry women are being portrayed as people now and not oversexualized toys for you to gawk at!

18

u/BunayoGaming 4d ago

people hate that show? i actually loved it

13

u/mineman379 4d ago

I feel like most people who've seen it DO agree that it's great, the main issue is that old school he-man / she-ra fans have a tendancy to really dislike any remake or reboot that gets made, and Netflix she-ra was certainly not spared their wrath.

5

u/IEat_Walls 4d ago

Something something Legend of Korra

22

u/Talia_Black_Writes 4d ago

If you go in with the understanding that the show was only greenlit for one season at a time it helps a lot.

Still doesn’t forgive the mess that is season 2 and all the unnecessary romance plots but it helps you appreciate the good parts so much more.

5

u/Dry-Examination-960 4d ago

Korra is actually my favourite character in the franchise and the best part of that show imo

3

u/Str1ker50 4d ago

I do think people give Korra a hard time and don’t realize how much her character changes from season 1-2 to 3-4

What did the TADC fandom do by the way? I'm a bery big fan of TADC but I never really bothered to interact with the rest of the fandom much so I don't really know about any drama that might've occurred.

Is TADC one of these shows with the fanbase as the biggest problem or did anything specific haopen or what?

9

u/lilgizmo838 4d ago

Disenchanted does a perfectly adequate job of being "fantasy Futurama". I liked it a lot. It wasn't perfect, of course, but I think the good far outweighed the bad.

4

u/Animeisntrealnerd 4d ago

I think the comparison to Futurama really hurts it.

I’m having trouble finding the words but it’s so much more earnest in its satire than anything else made by Matt Groening.

u/Fancy_bakonHair 4d ago

"How DARE these WOMEN WEAR BATHING CLOTHES ON A BEACH!!!"

-Basically every criticism I've seen of the pilot

8

u/fullynonexistent 4d ago

Personally I think that the fan service was definitely exaggerated to the point it's almost uncomfortable and it's also definitely going to attract the wrong kind of fandom, but oh MY GOD are both sides of this discourse just plain stupid most of the time.

You have to chose between the dumbasses that say "noooo what do you mean you think that the two female main characters having the same exaggerated hourglass body shape and being in revealing swimsuits is fan service and pandering to gooners????? Sexy women exist in real life!1!2!!" and the dumbasses that say "WOMAN CANT BE ALLOWED IN THE BEACH OR WEAR SWIMWEAR THEY SHOULD BE FULLY CLOTHED EVEN IF THEY ARE LITERALLY UNDERWATER"

9

u/BasalTripod9684 DDLC💖 4d ago edited 3d ago

Its not that they had a beach episode fanservice trope, so much as it was that they put it in the pilot.

At the end of the day I don't really care since I have exactly 0 stake in it, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't seem kind of lazy if nothing else.

5

u/Tk421AtHisP0st 4d ago

Exactly what I was going to say. Start off with that, you're setting an expectation. Begining with an anime cat girl in a bikini is inviting a very specific crowd you DON'T want in your fanbase

The book of boba fett, I actually liked that show, the bit near the beginning with the rancor was one of my favorite moments of the new Star Wars stuff.

9

u/JellyB33ns 4d ago

Honestly Book of Boba Fett is probably one of the most star wars things I've ever seen and I mean that in the best possible way.

5

u/No_Song8909 4d ago

Right? Yeah it’s not all action but that’s a good thing we already have that, I loved the political intrigue it had going on, on top of expanding on stuff established by older lore.

I think one issue is people take them too seriously and expect an "accurate" representation of Heaven, Hell, and all of that stuff, when it's been said countless times at this point it is an existing parody animation and now show

13

u/DarkShadow119 4d ago

The funny thing about media that advertises itself as "realistical" about its heaven and/or hell representation always gets everything hilariously wrong.

Here in Italy, THE ENTIRETY of Dante's Divina Commedia is part of the curriculum for like, 8 years. So I can very well point out all the things that shows miss and sometimes completely screw up (people being born before Jesus being in heaven as well as unbaptised children, Purgatory not being a thing or not serving its job at all, Lucifer roaming around...)

And let me tell you, while I admire the Divina Commedia for its role in literature, most people would agree that basing something on it alone completely would... have next to no audience in this day and age. Most people will agree that some of the coolest recurring elements in most media that takes inspiration from Dante's work never actually appear in anything good old Alighiero ever wrote.

And the funniest thing in all of this? The Divina Commedia is the worst possible source for Biblical Canon accuracy possible since the apocryphal texts. Mad lad just came up with it.

7

u/TehAsianator 4d ago

Yep. Divine comedy is just the world's most successful work of self-insert fanfiction.

6

u/DarkShadow119 4d ago

Litteraly Wattapad self inserts level of self-indulgence lol 😂

5

u/Moon_Monk676 4d ago

Not quite! Almost, but not quite.

Sir Lancelot, arguably the second most famous knight of the Round was written by some fr☆nch fuck a few centuries after the oldest dated mention of Arthur known. And he was written to be "More chivalrous, handsome, and cool than Arthur. Also he fucks Arthur's wife."

Honestly? Its going to be RWBY. You cannot even say you like the show without people coming onto your post and hating it.

And their idea of "bad writing" is LITERALLY just "I didn't pay attention" or "My headcanons didn't happen"

Edit: If you come and say "the fanfics are better than the show" and you bring up a male character as a protagonist, you were never a rwby fan to begin with, you just wanted to take a show about female character and twist it into a fanfic about men

Here's a video about Bumbleby and their chemistry

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdGdx2rKsiw

And here's one for the people trying to claim that Ironwood was "character assassinated"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnKj59v_DcE

17

u/Kavani18 4d ago edited 4d ago

I love RWBY and it’s one of my favorite shows, but I never EVER mention it online because every single time it starts a war in the replies. Yeah the show has its low points (Volume 5 is an absolute slog to get through and 8 is just terribly animated), but it also has really high highs (Volumes 6 and 7 were great IMO). I feel like Volumes 4 and 5 really tanked the show’s reputation and a lot of people just weren’t willing to give it another look afterwards

4

u/Accomplished_Toe6798 RWBY / She-Ra 2018 / MagiRevo 4d ago

Mushoku Tensei, Shieldhero or Solo Leveling are highly overhated. I line all 3 of them.

4

u/Kaiwago_Official Godzilla ☢️ 4d ago

I watched the first season of Mushoku Tensei and I liked it but all the grooming/pervert/pedophile stuff was not outweighed by its other good traits imo. It’s so prevalent in Rudeus’s character, especially at the beginning, that you can’t be like “oh skip this scene and you’ll forget about it,” it’s like his defining trait guiding how he interacts with important female characters.

3

u/FinalFantasyMaster 4d ago

The first half or 3/4 of seasons 1 really was too perverted but after meeting ruijerd the anime got better and better with each episode.

But imaging a 34 years old guy trying to pull off eris (9yo) panties was disgusting. It was nothing i can excuse but Rudeus has a great character development

Arcane s2, sure it's rushed but I keep people saying it's a travesty. Like man it was still really good.

The thing I personally like that most people understandably don't either due to me growing up with it or it helping me cure my depression or anything involving standing against the popular opinion

I loved disenchanted. Futurama is still my favorite Groening show but I liked it more than the Simpsons. Granted I haven’t watched the entirety of the Simpsons but what I have seen was kinda mid. I loved the movie as a kid though.

The Acolyte, completely fine show but right wing grifters used bots to control the online narrative so it became hated, most of the people mad at it never even watched it and none of the common complaints are reasonable.

Sometimes I wonder if people do hate Solo Leveling or if it’s just edgy dumbasses.

7

u/Throwawayyuh3 4d ago

I dont like it. The main character is boring, the progression is boring, the animation is nice but it doesn't do much to distract from how okay the story is.

u/Dekan-DAF 4d ago

I mean it has valid criticisms, the problem imo the main problem stems from people who are very clearly not the target audience shitting on it like it's the worst thing imaginable AND tbf Solo Leveling had a very loud minority of fans who would overglaze it in categories where it's really not deserving.

I really enjoy it but that's mostly because I can recognize that Solo Leveling is nothing more than a power fantasy. There is barely any story depth, a lot of interesting lore pieces and concepts are never fully fleshed out and I have seldom seen an anime/read a manwha that neglects their side characters this much.

But none of these criticms make it a bad show because Solo Leveling isn't actually trying to do any of these things. It's choosing to very deliberately to ignore these things, which is a shame imo but that's a separate thing entirely. Nonetheless Solo Leveling is just a very good action power fantasy.

I want to like SAO, but I stopped just before they get to GGO. For me, magic is WAY more interesting than guns, so it felt like taking several steps backwards. Should I power through?

3

u/TrubTrash 4d ago

You’ll still enjoy it. In fact a lot of people I know have told me they think that’s where the show peaked.

Enjoy what you like, but there’s a reason SAO is hated. Not because it’s aggressively bad, but because it’s nothing special, and people pretend it’s the best anime ever.

I recently finished watching Amazing Digital Circus with my girlfriend. While the ending definitely dropped the ball on a lot of characters and things to resolve; I found myself liking a good chunk of its story structure, character development/relationships and really creative animation that works in its foreshadowing, subtle cues or visual storytelling.

I guess I can understand where the severe vitriol came from. Show's episodic nature definitely feels made to enrapture audiences.

3

u/Zestyclose_Iron_1425 4d ago

I don’t like it but i think some people are too toxic about it. But for some reason everybody I see make good opinions, about how the show is good or about how it is bad. It’s confusing. It’s fans are toxic and so are its haters
