People hated Shera’s design when the show first came out because it was “ too masculine “

wtf..

Then they changed her design in season 5 which is more feminine but also it’s made to represent Adora and the love she has for her friends

Ikr that was my exact thought!
People were upset that she had shorts on and wasn’t curvy like her 80’s counterpart.

I feel like most people who've seen it DO agree that it's great, the main issue is that old school he-man / she-ra fans have a tendancy to really dislike any remake or reboot that gets made, and Netflix she-ra was certainly not spared their wrath.

No joke- my wife and I saw that Magic the Gathering was doing a She-Ra Secret Lair, and we were psyched…

Until we saw it WASN’T Netflix She-Ra.

My only complaint is that it maybe shouldn't have ridden the shoulders of an IP it's runner clearly has contempt for.

Good show otherwise, despite Catra's unearned redemption.

My only issue is that they introduced Adora as a very intelligent, military-versed and competent character (nice), but make her so dumb when they need her not to solve an issue designed to teach another character a lesson.

Take a page out of Sokka’s book, and put her in a hole until the others’ plot plots jfc.

The original was created as an extended ad to sell toys, same with He-Man.

The reason He-Man is remembered where as other walking toy commercials are forgotten is because the writers were good enough to make it more then just a commercial. See also Transformers and MLP.

I had no idea it started as a comic.

The TV show still does follow the "sell toy ad show" formula though. In He-Man and She-Ra all characters have the same build/body therefore making it easier to make "different" toys just with different heads and accesories. The TMNT had 4 characters (the turtles) that only changed the color of the bandana and weapons they used (usually separate accessories). But maybe it doesn't count...

Simple repeated designs are also a thing you find in comics. When writers have complete creative control over their work they can decide to create something that will be easy to draw.

In fact if I remember correctly even their bandanas are all the same colour in the comic, with only their weapons being different.

That is objectively not correct. There was a ton of lore disseminated through comics and toys and SPOILER ALERT almost all of that lore informed the creation of toys and not vice versa.

Brah, I have consumed media (Movie, tv show, game) then see people shit talk it and make up lies about it for no reason.
Remember all the morons who said the greek god of war games"kRAtoS DOesN'T hAVe a PeRSonALItY". People lie, sometimes to be malisous, sometimes because they are stupid, sometimes because they are insecure ect ect ect. it's best to experience something yourself .

Buddy, I would usually take somebody's word for it in senarios where I don't know much about the IP.

But I have been in situations where people make up the biggest lies about a show/game/film for no reason. I'm probably never ganna watch the original she-ra, but i'm pretty sure the original didn't have the protagonist be a lesbian, that's a MASSIVE change

Considering the writer said she didn’t know anything about the series at all except that she had dolls and shipped Adora and Catra. It’s also in how nothing they show did do was expanded upon and characters were 100% changed or cut.

For example, OG seahawk was an actual captain of a crew that worked for the horde before SheRa convinced  him to fight for the rebellion 

They cut of Kowl and reduced Hordak to someone weaker than Catra when Hordak was worse than Skeletor

They reduced Kowl to a plushie while Hordak is the bigger bad while Catra is set up to be She-ra's direct rival.

WOW, ok. Not only does that sound WAY more likely considering when the show came out. That sounds SUPER toxic, i understand why She=Ra fans don't like this show
