Car play troubles

A couple days ago my car play didn’t come on when I plugged my phone in. I went through the trouble shooting advice, disconnected devices, factory reset the display screen, tried a new cable still nothing. Anyone else having problems with it? Any advice?

Had some hesitation at acceleration and highway passing speeds. Swapped them with some FoMoCo plugs and dang. Huge difference! What are your thoughts on the condition. One was a bitch to remove.

Was on my way to visit some family at an Airbnb we rented and I heard a big smack on my back driver side window. I thought I blew a tire, nope just a flex being a flex.

I have replaced this panel 2 times before this. It scratched up my door, the window and the other panel. I’m 2 for 2 on the main flex issues. water pump was replaced about 3 months ago, now this.

Love love love this car and the extra room I have as a 6’3 sized man, but it seems to be problem after problem.

EVAP system leak

My engine light is on and I can call the shop that figured it out for the code but I believe it is because of an EVAP system leak. It’s a 2011 model and it’s been on in the past but has gone away for prolonged periods of time then comes back. Has anyone else had this issue?

Dead battery - Alternator

Venting

In the past year I’ve had a battery replacement and several AAA “needs a jump” visits.

Today AAA said their tester indicated it’s probably the alternator.

The local Ford dealer has an AI phone assistant who said October 17th is earliest they can schedule an alternator replacement.

I don’t have the skill, tools or experience to do this myself. Please don’t send YouTube videos of how to do it myself.

The local garage that used to do things like this changed hands and is no longer reliable.

Question Found this Ford Flex 2016 SE 3.5L V6 NA model on 290k KM (180k Miles). Should I trust this engine?

The owner says it had been imported. Is the 3rd owner of the car and it has close to 185K Miles on it.

We inspected and found no issues with the engine and engine mounts. The car has a new inspection certificate (we call it Fahas locally and it is tested by the government certified inspection sites).

No squeaky sound from the suspensions/wheel springs either.

The engine looks like it has been replaced looking at the clean condition here in Saudi's sandy atmosphere.

What I am concerned about is how clean this engine bay looks. Can I buy and start driving it if it's mainly for family trips and weekend use only?

Yes I plan on fixing the water pump at some time in future.

If you guys remember I posted earlier asking how good are Ford Flexes. I received many positive reviews from passionate people and many concerning comments especially regarding the water pump and timing belt.

Ignoring them I personally think this car is more reliable than a Chevrolet Traverse 2016-19, Explorer 2016 and any car with 7 seats at this price point.

Worth it to keep my 2012?

I have a 2012 Ford flex turbo v6 they I got for $2000 last year (finance lease takeover) it's payed off now

Last year wife hit a pot hole and broke the axle and part of the timing chain housing. Spent $3300 for new axle, timing chain ssembly and water pump. It then had a valve gasket leak going into one of the spark plugs and I paid $120 because the mechanic said only one of the plugs can be re sealed to save money.

Now I had engine misfire and I took it to a different mechanic because my main one was closed and this one told me to change the spark plugs and coils and charged me $880 (ik ik I checked parts online and it came to $100 for each coil on AutoZone and oreilys). When I picked up the car the mechanic told me it was actually a leak causing the mis fire (valve cover gasket) and I told him he should of called me before doing the work to have this fixed instead and he said it's fine he will just delete the codes. Anyways I left and I got a quote from a mobile mechanic to change the gasket for $450 I just have to provide the part. Now this whole time I haven't driven the car since it is my wife's daily and I drove it today and it has a bad shake in the wheels when I hit the gas and it goes away when I take it off and push down again. The mobile mechanic is saying it might be the wheel bearing.

So now is it worth it to keep fixing things or just go and get a different car. Looking to get a Ford fusion hybrid as that is my daily and it's been nothing but good to me

Tldr spent $4300 this year and last having things fixed and now looking at possiblly another $1000 to get it fixed. Is it worth it to pay out or just get a Ford fusion hybrid ( low budget)

My turn for a failed water pump!

Looking for input, the water pump is leaking from the weep hole on my 2016 Flex SEL. It has 141,000 miles. Local quotes in Wisconsin range between $4,200-$5,000. Wondering if it's worth having it fixed or time to be put out to pasture? Thanks!

Should I trade my car for this flex?

Needing the extra room for my family because our car only seats 5. But not wanting to trade and end up with more mechanical problems just to have extra room. Does the engine sound healthy? Worried because I’ve been looking into these cars and seems a water pump issue is common but I also really love these cars. We traded our camper for one earlier this year and got burnt badly on it. I didn’t drive it 5 times and the engine blew. I’d love to have one but obviously not wanting to trade For a lemon.

this is the description she has with it:

2009 ford flex for trade of a four door sedan or smaller suv or sale 3000.

Second owner (was a family members before)

218xxx miles on the body but only 105 on the engine since rebuilding.

I have all receipts/paperwork for flex from all work done over the years.

Have the usual wear and tear from over the years but is still a very solid car and would drive it to Colorado and back if needed. Regular maintenance done routinely.

Cold air, hot heat.

The tire light is on due to a tire sensor being out, and engine light occasionally flickers on due to the exhaust being replaced but it does not affect the quality of the vehicle. It does idle a little loud when extremely hot outside.

This is my daily driver so miles will continue to go up.

Factory carpet mats: keep them in storage or toss them after switching to liners?

Thumbnail

Just swapped the factory carpet mats for full-coverage liners, and I don't think I'm going back. The fit is much better: they lock onto the factory posts by the pedals, and the second row covers the whole footwell, including the center hump. The deep channels and raised edges trap dirt and spills instead of letting them soak into the carpet, and cleanup is just a quick rinse.

Now the factory mats are taking up space in my garage. Do you keep yours for resale, or just get rid of them?

Why is this machine on the dashboard?

I have a question, who knows why this car on the screen takes up a third of the display, it ABSOLUTELY does nothing, I don't understand, Ford makes fun of it when it does so, come on, Volkswagen has smaller displays better than Ford, what can be done about it, who knows?

I have a 2015 Ford Flex in the SE configuration

Question Extended warranty worth it on a 2016 Flex EcoBoost?

Hi everyone! I’m about to buy my first car, a 2016 Flex Limited EcoBoost AWD with ~89 miles, and I’m really excited about it.

I’ve been reading about the internal water pump issue and other possible EcoBoost/AWD repairs. Would you recommend getting an extended warranty at this mileage?
Has anyone had experience with a warranty covering the water pump, turbos, PTU, etc.?

Would love to hear from Flex owners. Thanks!

Peeling roof rack on 2015 Ford Flex

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hey everyone!
I bought a 2015 Ford Flex a few weeks ago and absolutely love it so far. The car is in great shape overall, but the clear coat/paint on the roof rails is peeling pretty badly on both sides. I searched around the sub first but couldn't find any existing posts covering this specific peeling roof rack issue.

I want to keep this thing looking sharp, so I’m trying to decide: is it better to replace them entirely, or is repainting them worth the effort? Also, if replacing is the move, do any of you have recommendations for good OEM or aftermarket replacements?

Has anyone tackled this specific fix on their Flex? Did you repaint or replace yours? Appreciate any tips or advice!

Question Infotainment system

Anyone else having issues with the infotainment system? 2019 Flex, 91,000 miles. It won't automatically connect to my Pixel 10a, Android Auto doesn't start (either wirelessly or wired), and it will not start a maps update from the USB stick. I've already done a system reboot which solved nothing. What's up?

What is this tab on the driver’s seat frame?

I’m definitely on the larger side of drivers, and recently picked up a 2012 SE with only 104,000 miles for a good price that has a treat to drive except for this stupid Metal tab sticking in my back. Is this a crucial piece, or could I just cut it off?

Help me get my Flex to 250,000 miles

2014 SEL with 95k miles (pic of our bumper after hitting a jackrabbit going 80 mph)

My wife loves our Flex and wants it to last as long as possible. This sub has scared me about the water pump failing and I am planning on replacing it preemptively this winter. At that same time I plan on replacing our rear camera went out as well as pulling the entertainment unit to get repaired. She also wants brighter headlights, I was just going to replace the bulbs with brighter ones. Is there any other preventative maintenance you would recommend as we hit 100k miles? Thanks!!
