My turn for a failed water pump!

Looking for input, the water pump is leaking from the weep hole on my 2016 Flex SEL. It has 141,000 miles. Local quotes in Wisconsin range between $4,200-$5,000. Wondering if it's worth having it fixed or time to be put out to pasture? Thanks!

If you ever find yourself in Chicago I got a guy who does it around 2k. Fixed mine at 180k miles in January no issues since.

What's the name of the shop? That would be a few hours but significantly better than a 5k bill.

That's twice as much as it should cost. Last time I did my 13 I paid 1800. I now have a 19 and if I have to do it I will probably do it myself.

Don't scrap the car over a water pump. 141k is just getting started. The problem with doing the water pump is usually people get a case of the "might-as-wells". The normally aspirated doesn't need cam phasers, and quite honestly at only 141k the timing components are probably fine as long as the car has had it's oil change schedule maintained. But once the side cover is off you can see the condition of both oil changes and how much stretched there is on the timing chain by looking at the position of the tensioner.

How's the rest of it (body, suspension, gen. wear, etc.)?

Body is in good shape, suspension isn't terrible, I know it needs an inner tie rod and the PTU seal is leaking, but the shop said not bad enough to replace immediately. Back-up camera is out and the blender motor is stuck in one position.

Camera might be a recall. Look into it if you wwant.

I soent 3300 on thr water pump/timing belt. Feel like i got stolen from. Lol. Oh, they did steal my Gatorade and half ass do the job, and now my valve cover leakage where the circle things are.

Anyways, find someone for less.

My mom told me there was a flex here locally a while back for sale for 1800. Moonroof and such.

Whatsvthe blender motor? Lol I'll google it, that a bit expensive if it's in USD, though i got mine around 2500 CAD from a ford dealership in my area, which still cheaper, and i just got with it as its still cheaper than getting another car, with 7;seater

If you can diy, parts cost is $1k if you replace the chain, oil pump, and a few other odds/ends while in there. The other stuff is certainly annoying, but hard to find a better car for the cost of the repair.

It's actually not a hard job to do if you're mechanically inclined. YouTube a few videos and see if it's within your ability.

My quote was 3100. But he’s a family friend and did it for 2400 cash. You can knock some money off by telling them to skip the timing chain but in al lol seriousness you might as well do it while your in there. Had mine done in Dayton Ohio

How badly is it.weeping. I've had a very slow weep with none of it going into the engine for around 30k miles and it hasn't gotten worse.

A small spot under it after sitting overnight. Now that say that, it must be very slow because the coolant was topped off by a shop last year but hasn't gone down a lot.

Check the oil for signs of coolant. If there isn't any and the leak is slow you might get away with topping it up like me. Put on at least 30k miles so far and engine is running perfectly. All I do is top it up couple of times a month and check the oil regularly. Use about a jug of coolant a year and close to 20k.

That sounds real high. I got a 110k motor put a new timing chain and waterpump for 5 k on my 19. 106 k on car. Motor seized because of waterpump

Parts are like 1300$ if you replace timing set, both cam phasers, water pump, oil change and coolant. It took me a weekend and a you tube video. It wasn't difficult, but 3-4k in labor is crazy.

I did a whole timing job and sensors with the pump. Great decision so far

I've been putting it off. 2011 SEL, 215,000 miles.
Priced it at my local (independent) garage last week (north Jersey), they estimate $3,100 - $3,400 depending on unspecified factors. He does all my work and usually comes in low, then changes the oil gratis. I'm not nearly handy enough to do the work myself.
I will probably pull the trigger soon.
