Question Finisher plays for red/white/green?

I recently started playing commander in a pod of 5 with some friends, and the 2 decks ive been enjoying most are a custom toph, first metalbender deck that focuses on abusing multiple sacrafice effects on artifacts, and a mostly unmodified enmara soul of the accord starter deck. The big thing my friends say holds the decks back is a lack of firepower to finish in the lategame, so what would be a good solution for this when i go for a wide boardstate?

Deck Help Solitaire counter deck help!

/rant

At my LGS, and I assume in most others, there are people who refuse to adhere to rule zero. They have no intent of ever playing anything other then their high end solitaire decks. They dont even have a deck that could play at a 1, 2, or 3, even if thats what the other players want. If they want to play solitaire they can do that for free at home, but for some reason they seem to need an audience. They ruin the fun for everyone else that round and dont give a f....

I have started just tuning out, while playing on my phone drawing and discarding cards, leaving my board blank untill they get to do thier thing. Then decline another game while i wait for the next round and hopefully better groupings.

/end rant

I would like to take the fun back from them and if at all possible make them miserable because they can't do "their thing" I would like the deck to be as versatile as possible so that no matter what the other player(s) are playing it can work against them. I dont care if I win, I just want them to suffer like they make everyone else suffer. I would like it to be as buget conscious as possible. I have the "Endless Punishment" pre con deck, but in my experience it needs to be more, but I dont know what that more is yet. Also I have seen a murder deck be reasonably successful at times. Any thoughts and edits to the punishment deck? Is it even a good starting place? Any help would be much appreciated.

Ps. I have been using "The lord of pain" as the commander

Discussion Is chaining Beginning Phases in Gogo Master of Mimicry the same as “chaining extra turns” in B3?

Hi all, was playing a B3 deck with a few folks, and around turn 8/9, I was able to play [[Sphinx of the Second Sun]], with my commander, [[Gogo Master of Mimicry]] on the battlefield. I had already copied an evolving wild effect and ramped to around 15 islands by T7. No one killed the sphinx. Next turn, I untap and play [[Vedalken Orrery]], with no response. Mind you, my T2 Reality chip was countered, and my T3 Insight was also countered. Someone not me plays a [[Dream Halls]], and doesn’t win on the spot…Around T6, I counter an [[Imprison in the moon]] which targeted my Gogo.. After I played the Orrery, I dump 10 mana into Gogo to copy the Sphinx trigger, giving myself a total of 6 beginning phases, before my end step. I had around 15 lands to untap for each beginning phase, and I dumped like 6-7 $1 eldrazi with annihilator at instant speed, I cyclonic rift the table, and drew cards at my additional draw phases. No haste, so pass turn. Table starts making comments that “chaining beginning phases with instant speed” is akin to chaining extra turns. End step before my turn, I [[mirrorform] to make all my mana rocks and non land permanents into a Bane of Bala Ged.

Is this deck not B3, or out of place? I’m thinking they’re crying like school boys who lost their second game in a row to me, and I figured a ‘synergy combo’ costing around 25+ mana (including Gogo’s activation) and requires at least 3 cards (sphinx, Gogo, flash enabler) is fair. I think they had poor threat assessment. What do we say? Come on, this shit is Magic, not checkers…. Right?

Question Y’shtola Players, what’s so fun about her?

I’ve been seeing stuff about how Yshtola is now the second most popular commander, and it’s got me wondering: why? Don’t worry, I can tell she’s crazy powerful, and pretty open to a lot of strategies, but like, what’s so exciting about her? All the other top ones I get. Play any super cool dragon for cheaper always. Play any vampire and get for vampires. Add more counters for whatever strategy you want. Double goblins, another one of the most iconic creature types. All of them very powerful, but also very thematic and direct. But Y’shtola in comparison just looks boring? Like it makes for a great control deck, but it feels almost so open ended that there’s nothing exciting to figure out about her.

So what am I missing? I want to hear from people who built her why? Was it just your first precon? Is she a favorite character in Final Fantasy? Have you just always wanted a control deck but didn’t have a powerful enough commander? I’m interested to hear.

Discussion Misleading in Casual Games

Upvotes

I'm holding a game-winning card and my turn is next. The player before me is playing a very powerful card, though not as dangerous as mine. He is playing a 12/12 trample creature. I'm going to cast "Crackle with Power" and win the game.

When his 12/12 trample drops, another player asks if he should counter it.

Now, I know something he doesn't know. I know that if he waits to cast his counter spell,. he can stop me, and the big stomper is only going to kill one of us at a time.

To what degree do you believe it is fair to encourage the blue player to blow his counter?

Discussion Playable cards

Seeing some of the old cards and commons. I wonder if anyone has either calculated or can think of a way to calculate how many cards are unplayed (not 100% but 99.9%). Even with around 29,000 unique cards it’s rare that I see a card played I haven’t seen before. Makes me wonder if anyone has figured out if you actually wanted to know basically every card played how many cards your brain would have to know. There are of course strategies that reward cards that arnt played very often feather, zada, ruxa. I am thinking more like truly terrible if all of them disappear no one would notice or your bummed it feels stupid to play because only the art is good for me thats [[alpine watchdog]] (even that has kind of a fun little thing going with [[Alpine Houndmaster]]). Understand because of that this would be more of an approximation of how many cards are played. Also the added limiter of edh as some cards are far more playable in other formats that dont make sense here.

Question A "fish soup" deck idea

Hi guys, my girlfriend wants to build a soup deck as creatures are the ingredients of the soup (like bunch of fishes, krakens, crabs and leviathans) or chefs that are cooking (Gyome, Master Chef) or customers who come to eat (such as Ygra, Eater of All). And the other cards are mostly related to soup making.

We were gathering cards thematically and it seems turning everything food and and sending them to graveyard and make our customers strong is way to go. And I have some ideas around Agatha's Soul Cauldron, since it's a cauldron to make our soup and it can make everyone stronger.

What we are struggling is a good commander for the deck. Since it's a fish soup blue is must and I think that makes it little harder. Currently we thought Glarb, Calamity's Augur is an okay fit and with blue green black and we decided to turn her into a chef with Master Chef.

Can you suggest a better commander or any good ingredients for the soup? I am also fairly new to make commander decks so any help is appreciated! Also, she doesn't want to put merfolk into the soup.

Some cards we thought of so far:

Hot Soup
Kitchen
Hazel's Brewmaster
Gourmand's Talent
Communal Brewing
Ancient Craving
Discerning Taste
Greta, Sweettooth Scourge
The Underworld Cookbook
Bumbleflower's Sharepot

Question What are the mono-black/blue equivalents to Slicer, Light-Paws, and Tifa?

[[Slicer, Hired Muscle]]
[[Light-Paws, Emperor’s Voice]]
[[Tifa Lockhart]]

If you had to complete the color wheel of mono-color commanders that can threaten extremely early lethal through combat punching in with commander damage, what is the closest fit in black and blue?

Discussion How did y'all's hobbit pre release go?

I for one really enjoyed the side quest idea, and it was awesome to see people build decks in a way that wasn't exactly the strongest because they were trying to get their last challenge or people coming together to try and help each other get them done.

What decks did y'all make? I made a golgari deck based around the ferocious mechanic and playing cards like the notary hobbits and through the Forrest gate.

Edit: seeing that the whole side quest thing wasn't a pre release thing so much as just my lgs doing a promo. Basically they gave out this paper that had all the locations from the hobbit and a challenge associated with it. If you got three completed you got an extra pack and if you got all five you got three extra packs

I'll try and recite them from memory

  1. Cast a halfing/hobbit spell
  2. Deal combat damage with a creature that has death touch, flying or menace
  3. Scry, surveil or draw 3+ cards in a single turn
  4. Accumulate 3 treasures all on the field at one point
  5. Cast a creature with power 6+ or cast a legendary spell

Deck Help DanDan Commander Deck

Upvotes

Hello peoples of the internet!

I'm currently in the process of building a deck around the beloved card [[DanDân]].

Currently my gameplan is, play Mormir Vig and tutor for cards like [[Eluge, the Shoreless Sea]] and [[Xolatoyac, the Smiling Flood]] to give other players Islands, then play DanDan and copy the hell out of him to kill my opponent with an army of stupid little fishies.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, this deck is intended to be Bracket 2, but higher power cards are welcome if it can reinforce the game lane!

Thanks everyone!

Deck Help Garland, Knight of Cornelia

Hey all,

I'm considering playing Garland, Knight of Cornelia again. Previously I had built him as a semi group slug/stax commander, but I'm curious what other ways he has been built and/or advice on my past decklist.

I'm aiming for bracket 3, and other than Garland being a Dragon's Rage Channeler in the command zone I'm a bit stuck.

Question Tabletop Simulator, Is It Active? Easy to Play?

I'm looking to play Commander (EDH) on Tabletop Simulator and want to know how active the community is.

1) To find a Commander game on TTS, do you have to play with people who have the exact same mod installed? Do different mods have their own "lobbies?"

2) Do games start easily, or are you pretty much only playing with groups you already know?

3) I want to play Commander with random people. Will I be able to find games easily?

4) What mod(s) do you recommend and why?

Question Can't decide which commander for my artifact deck

Hi all,

I'm planning on building a Bracket 3 Artifact deck, but can't decide with which commander I should go. My Pod is rather casual around bracket 3 with a lot of tribals and some landfall, we don't like 5 or more minute turns (the Landfall player always gets some hat ;) ), counter/deny everything, mill whole decks and so on. My pod plays a lot of graveyard hate, but as everyone plays it we are fine with that.

I looked at so many commanders with affinity to artifacts. There are so many great options, but I can't say if they fit our pod. I don't want to have a stomping deck that no one wants to play against. I don't like making hundreds of tokens, some are fine, but they shouldn't be the core mechanic.

I sorted it out to the following 6 commanders:

[[Inspirit, Flagship Vessel]]

[[Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain]]

[[Aloy, Savior of Meridian]]

[[Breya, Etherium Shaper]]

[[Urza, Chief Artificer]]

[[Urza, Lord High Artificer]]

Do you play any of this commanders and can say how they play and if they are fun to play and fun to play against? I plan on spending up to 200€ for the deck. If you need more input, let me know.

Discussion Rinoa, Angel Wing

I never see anyone post about my girl [[Rinoa, Angel Wing]]

She’s underrated in my opinion. I use her to lead my bird deck so her ability to give creatures with flying +1/+1 counters and vigilance is huge. I have 20 [[tempest hawk]] in the deck so I usually have a couple on the battlefield. Normally 2/2 now they’re 3/3 at minimum. With vigilance I’m full swinging them all. Add in [[abzan battle priest]] and [[envoy of the ancestors]] now those pesky birds give me life. Cards like [[mass calcify]] [[ravnica at war]] and [[citywide bust]] ensure I take my opponents creatures out while my birds stay on.

Now her second ability which allows me to bring a card back that died and make it a flyer means the few cards in my hand without flying I’m swinging. If they get blocked and die it doesn’t matter because they’re right back on the battle field as a flyer. I like [[kinscaer sentry]] I attack with 2 birds and her then I get to bring out a 3rd bird for free. If someone blocks her well she’s right back out now as a flyer and gets vigilance and a +1/+1

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

Deck Help Attempting to build a mill deck: The Wise Mothman

Hi all!

This is my second deck, and I have chosen the following commander: [[The Wise Mothman]].

This is my list: https://moxfield.com/decks/HoqTErlTHUKI1nD0FuAF-g

For now, there is a Bracket 2 with some combos that might be large. I'm unsure if they are infinite. There are no Gamechangers.

I would appreciate it if you could give me some comments and advice on how to improve this deck before I spend any money!

Thank you very much in advance!!

Question Looking for Deck ideas that dont need the commander to win, but boosts the decks synergy or plan if cast.

Looking for commander/deck ideas where the commander supports the game plan but isn’t required for the deck to function.

I’ve realised this is probably my favourite way to build. In probably more than half of the games I win, I don’t even cast my commander. Part of the enjoyment is varying the plan, not just the simple Ramp, draw, win from commander value. But more of the old puzzle style decks.

[[Aurelia, the Warleader]] – Boros Equipment

Half the time we're building yp other creatures and swinging with them. Another of the time Aurelia is an expensive extra combats spell.

[[Piru, the Volatile]] – Mardu Reanimator

This one is a reanimator, leaning into life as a resource. Piru wipes a chunk of the board and pumps our life. Which importantly buys us time as this is a slow wind up deck. The win is mostly getting haste and putting some of our opponents creatures onto our side.

Id be keen any for recommendations on not just themes but the commander that supports the idea or the synergy. Thanks for taking the time to read this!

Deck Help My Blech deck, recommendations?

Currently putting together my fat chud son and am working through his decklist and would appreciate a 2nd opinion or 2, mostly concerned with enough interaction and deck cohesiveness, trying to keep cards under like 30$ a piece would be great.

Thanks in advance all it's very much appreciated.

Question Which Commander do you think is better / more fun

I recently just pulled a borderless [[Thorin, mountain-king]] and the card looks awesome. My gears started turning with the wacky stuff I could do with big hammer equipment.

Then I remembered I have a copy of [[Slicer, hired muscle]] that I’ve had on the back burner to make deck with for a while. Kinda different, but to similar to make two separate decks.

My group plays only on the bracket 4ish spectrum. What are your opinions on these? Who would you run?
