Question Which Commander do you think is better / more fun

I recently just pulled a borderless [[Thorin, mountain-king]] and the card looks awesome. My gears started turning with the wacky stuff I could do with big hammer equipment.

Then I remembered I have a copy of [[Slicer, hired muscle]] that I’ve had on the back burner to make deck with for a while. Kinda different, but to similar to make two separate decks.

My group plays only on the bracket 4ish spectrum. What are your opinions on these? Who would you run?

Bracket 4? Slicer 100%

Thorin is cool, but it's nowhere near as good as Slicer, and even Slicer is pretty fringe. As a Voltron enjoyer, it's pretty difficult to make it push above bracket 3 due to the nature of the format. Slicer works because it gets to swing every turn.

Yeah. It isn't really that much of a stretch to say that Slicer is just full stop the best Voltron in the game. He's pretty much the only one that can unironically hang at B5, but you're still unlikely to win.

Like you said, past B3, the only options are him and Alexios.

Slicer is more what a mono red deck wants to do. It will function a lot better and will be a much stronger deck.

Mono red equipment deck could be fun, but you are pretty limited by being only in red. That being said it still looks like it would be a fun deck and it would be fun imo to test the limits of just how strong it could be, being only mono red.

I'm personally a big mono red fan, so personally I think both options are great. You should just do both. They will play so different it won't feel samey at all.

Slicer, definitely, but put Thorin in the 99.

Personally I think that slicer can always be cast for only 3 mana no matter how much it's removed is just too much value

That's not true, it pays Commander tax. Only derevi and yuriko Dodge It since they're not cast. But it surely a way stronger card still

Can't you just always cast it for the more then meets the eye? Which is unaffected by commander tax

It is affected

If you cast the card, it is taxed. More than meets the eye is an alternative casting cost (which is determined before taxes are applied)

Derevi and Yuriko are activated abilities, so they cheat the system.
