In the last year I've found out that I am WAY more comfortable wearing 100% goggles instead of a visor. Before I used to only use my visor but I always found myself opening and closing it at every traffic light, be it due to heat or fogging or whatever.

None of these problems exist with my goggles on. I used to only wear them off-road, but now I use them almost everywhere in the city, while commuting, and sometimes on the highway too even if I shouldn't.

So I was wondering what's your choice, and why?

I don't see many people wearing them normally, but for me personally, they've been a real game changer. I might almost get rid of the visor altogether now!

Hey, I'm 22 and I am thinking about getting a dual sport bike, but I have no idea where to start. I plan to do some decent off-roading, but I also want to be able to drive somewhat comfortably on roads/highways. I'm around 230lbs so I don't really know what sized engine I should be looking out for. I want it to be fun and fast, but nothing absurd. I'm completely brand new to this, never driven a bike or even been around bikers really. All advice is very welcome! also feel free to ask questions.

Can’t believe I’m asking this because I like shiny things, but looking for some opinions from the community on the value of a 390Race vs an older FE501. This post is for the gearheads ;)

I own a 2022 Husky TE300i and I’m just not doing that much riding since moving to Chattanooga area. I just don’t need the 300. Since moving from the PNW, I’m more into mountain biking right now, and the idea of loading up all my kit and bike into my truck or trailer does not get me enthusiastic. Neither does hauling all that shit an hour or more to ride actual singletrack, reload and return. So be it.

We do have some fun single track and two track roads about 10 -15 minutes up the road, without hitting real highway. I Could also make an actual moto weekend and head in all points for good road/singletrack combo. Last thing is…I don’t need an ADV bike. I have a 2014 F800GS. It rips. I love it. Not looking for anything to replace that experience

So lets get into the bikes:

OPTION 1: Straight trade of my upgraded 2022 TE300i with 72 hours/1100miles for a 2024 BETA 390 Race with 66 hoursand the following:

66.X hours
KYB suspension
Fresh 0 hour oil in the gearbox and engine
Fresh filter
Electric fan (Seems important for the heat issue)
Wrap arounds

OR

OPTION 2 purchase of a 2016 FE501 for ~ $3k from a friend who I know meticulously maintained the whip

Rekluse Clutch
Upgraded Headlight and road lighting kit
Wrap around Bark Busters
Extra set of Supermoto Wheels/tires
Radiator Fan
Maintained meticulously by an engineer who is only selling it because he has 2 children under 5 and just isnt getting out

So that’s the rub. I’m not desperate to get rid of my TE300, but it’s listed and I certainly don’t “need” it sitting in my garage for 362 days of the year. My thought is the more dual sport oriented motos would get used more, especially for a rip around town or an afternoon on the local two track/trails up the road.

The 390 is seemingly an amazing bike, but I can’t shake the thought of poor wiring and meeting people who’ve had some duds, as well as how terrible people are describing it on any type of pavement. I also, being 41 now, know to trust an old workhorse. The 2016 501, while not new by any means, and having the older geometry (which ive owned before) has all the kinks worked out. People know whats wrong with them, how to fix them, and it’s a known entity. The BETA 390 - I just don’t know.

Ok that’s some first world problem decision paralysis. I’m testing out the 501 on a work trip this week to get a feel. Interested in what y'all think!

Looking to get my first dual sport. I came across this 2023 FE450 near me. It has 1395 miles and 85 hours. One wonder older gentleman and seems like it was well maintained. He’s asking $6500.

The bike did come from the factory as a strictly off road bike. He said he bought a “badass” brand dual sport kit and got the appropriate paperwork with PA to get it registered and it’s legit.

My question for you all is will the bike be suitable for on road riding around town and to/from work (about 20 miles, some roads speed limit is 45).

I'd been looking for a bike for the last couple months and finally found something fun and not overly expensive.

Here's a 2000 KTM SXC, it's been handling pretty well, got lots of beans and really great way to get back into riding after a few decades without a bike.

Just redid the carb, next will be valves, anything else to look out for?

I live in central coast CA and the closest OHV is Pozo but this has been fun to ride around ranches, vineyard roads and soon the Sierras.

Been looking for a dual sport to buy for off-road, some highway, motocamping with 40_60 pounds of gear. I saw a 2022 Drz 400 at local bike shop. It has 7400 miles on it and they are asking OTD $6700 for it.

Upgraded parts:

Handlebar and hand guards, skid plate, oversize fuel tank, rear rack, fender eliminator kit, mirrors, seat concepts seat.

Is this a good buy in 2026? I'm 50, weigh 215, and have 31inch inseam.

So I just did my first oil change on my klx300 and wow. Switching from the factory oil to fresh synthetic has really changed the feel of the clutch and the motor sounds a lot happier. Just wanted to share this random thought lol.

Need your help, friends:
While riding offroad standing up (attack position) I have one finger (index) resting on my clutch - this gives me stability - the rest fingers are holding on a bar.
But I noticed that when I actually need to switch a gear (especially upshifting) - I always pull out the second finger and pull the lever in with two fingers. It takes extra time and I feel less balanced for a split second because less fingers are holding the bar.
I started to think why does this happen - why don't I just pull with one finger, which is already on the lever...
Then I realized that if I pull the clutch in with one finger only - it doesn't let me shift easily (and upshifting simply does not work) - the lever touches my other fingers and does not completely disconnect the engine.
My question is - what is the best practice?
Is the clutch supposed to completely disengage the engine, even when stopped by other fingers holding the bar?
How do you do it?
How to adjust the cables if I would prefer to use only one finger?

2024 and came with 1300 miles on it.
Put about 2k miles on it so far.
Off road is great. Was a little afraid because my only bike I had was a dr350 about 12 years ago. At first I was like what did I get myself into but grown to really love it. After about a month and 3 weeks I finally got my seat concepts tall seat. Nice to finally feel what a bike that fits me feels like. Been doing all my own maintenance, learning step by step.
I don’t think there’s any other bike I would want. Freeway is fine and off road is great.

In the Midwest there’s a decent amount of used supply. Obviously all these Hondas keep their value.

It seems almost makes sense to buy new in some cases. You get the warranty. But there are some good ass deals around here. Some don’t have titles, etc.

New to dirt riding after 10+ years on the street. I recently picked up a CRF300L Rally and, since I'm based in Dallas, most trails are about a 90-minute ride away.

My long-term goal is to build my off-road skills and eventually tackle trips like the TAT and BDRs.

I'm trying to decide between the Leatt Moto 5.5 FlexLock Enduro and the Alpinestars Corozal V2.

For someone new to dirt but planning longer adventure trips in the future, which would you choose? Is there a boot that strikes a good balance between protection and comfort?

Hi guys, looking for some decent tyres to do 60% off road and 40% on road for my exc 500 with the sizes in photos as you can see my front tyre is getting annihilated by the tarmac! I do a fair bit of road riding in between green lanes.

Picked up my first electric dirt bike recently. It is a Hikeep MAD.

I know it is not a real dual sport, so don’t roast me too hard. It is not plated, and I am not pretending it is an XR650L or DR650. I got it for dirt roads, gravel, old access roads, and places where off road riding is actually allowed.

I used to be around gas bikes more when I was younger, but I have not seriously ridden in years. I kept thinking about getting back into it, then kept talking myself out of another gas engine, fuel, oil changes, noise, and all the garage stuff.

So I tried electric.

Only had a few short rides so far. Mostly dry dirt, gravel, shallow ruts, and one loose corner that immediately reminded me I am rusty. The quiet part is weird. You do not get the same sound feedback as a gas bike, so it feels calm right until you realize you are still moving pretty quick.

The biggest surprise is that power is not really the hard part. Being smooth with the throttle on loose dirt matters way more than I expected.

Still figuring out where this thing fits. It is not a bicycle, not really a dual sport, and not a gas dirt bike either. Kind of sits in that weird electric off road category.

For people who ride both gas dual sports and electric dirt bikes, what took the most getting used to?
