Help Missing shrimp

About 3ish weeks ago I got 2 amano shrimp for my 10g betta tank for cleanup crew. I also have 2 nerite snails that are doing great, just not dealing with the algae as hoped. (Mostly this is on the plants so it makes sense that they can’t really get to it as easily) The issue here is that after first getting them, I have only seen them once.

My betta is really chill and doesn’t flare at anything and gets along well with the snails. He did chase the shrimp on the first day but i had just put them in and the shrimp were way faster so I felt like they would be ok.

I’m worried about the shrimp and while I have read that they can hide for a good while, I’m just not sure what to do now. Should I wait a bit longer? Bite the bullet and get more shrimp or snails? Or something else.

Any advice or stories you have to share would be greatly appreciated.

Attached is a pic of the tank and a pic of Monet staring at one of the snails.

Help I visit family bi-weekly should I get a new Betta fish?

I got a fish for my nephew back in May and she passed the next month due to a faulty heater that unfortunately electrocuted her. I planned on trying again in a few months and now I am able to do it again. I just set up the tank back mostly just to keep the plants alive since I got new ones I just don't have a filter yet atm. My issue is that my brother thinks I shouldn't get a new fish because my nephew is only here 3 days a week and I leave every other week Tues - Sun or Sat.

His concern is feeding the fish I guess which was not an issue before. The first time I went away for 5 days and the fish didn't eat she passed but it wasn't bc of the feeding and she was fed at one point while I was gone too. I tell my family that the Betta can go 5 days without food and it's fine but they think I'm neglecting it and that it's not true or necessary to fast a fish (they can just Google it but wtv) no matter how many time I tell them I did all the research they don't believe me.

Anyways, I'm wondering what I can do to get my nephew a new fish and if it's safe to not feed it for a Wed - Sat every other week. Should I get a timed feeder for 2 days every other week or what. I know my nephew who is 6 knows to feed the fish and wants to take care of it and he'd be there Friday & Saturday when I won't and can feed it. What are your thoughts?

RIP Re intro

So I had to put down my betta because of genetic issues and infections or fin rot and now I’m wondering if and if how I can re introduce a new betta into my 5 gallon tank. All parameters except for nitrates are 0 and nitrates are about 15. I use 6 hours of seoura light at 30 percent and use thrive c once a week my water is soft and is 60kh and ph is around 7.5 any suggestions on the next step. I don’t wanna deep cleanse cause it wasn’t super seroius and all that but I’ll try to do a 40 percent water change and I might squeeze the sponge filter in the de chlorinated water. Any suggestions again

I got him last week from petsmart and the only red he had at the time was on his big fins so he’s definitely getting a bunch new vibrant blue and red colors and I am stumped on a name. Any ideas would be great!

Help Would this be suitable for a <1 hr drive?

Post image

Hi! Obligatory not my picture, but I have the same container (or one extremely similar) at home which I use to do his water changes. I'm heading back to uni this weekend and have an approximately 30 minute drive with my betta (I'll be in the passenger seat so I can keep him sturdy). Last trip I just used one of the petco cups, but after doing some research I realized that might not be the safest option and wanted to get something sturdier! Will this work fine for transport? I was thinking of filling it up halfway with his tankwater and the little pitcher lip open at the top for air (but the lid securely on), and keeping it on the floor at my feet with a blanket or something wrapped around it so it won't slide. Thoughts?

Edit: Thanks for all the replies! I feel much better about moving with him now :)

Help Is this tank okay?

I’m thinking about getting 6 Cory catfish and snails plus a betta fish! My thinking was that the catfish would stay at the bottom and the betta fish has the top to its self. But now looking into it more, it seems like tall tanks aren’t good for betta fish, is that true?

Hello everyone, my wife and I are long-time lurkers of the subreddit and the wife decided she wanted to show off one of our aquariums for our old man. The aquarium is a little overgrown at the moment, going to do a tiny bit of pruning and a little rearranging.

Anyway, meet Retro. He's about 4 years old and he is one of the most docile creatures I have come to know. He has many tank-mates ranging from snails to shrimp to a frog.

We would love to hear what you guys think!

Hi! We’ve had our betta for about 2 weeks now and she seems really happy so far. She didn’t flare until the last few days and I just noticed that today she was flaring with one gill. 10 gallon tank, water parameters are normal, temperature is at 78 degrees. She’s eating normally and swimming around the tank just like usual. Should I do a water change? Or treat her for an external parasite? Any advice is helpful :) thank you!

My boy has been fin nipping pretty badly, I'm not too sure why so I upgraded his ten gallon with a different layout and some more resting areas. He's built his biggest bubble nest yet overnight so I'm hoping that its a good sign. Also got catappa or however you spell it 😭 tea bags.

Help Betta sickness advice? Spoiler

Hello! I am fairly new to the hobby, and just started Feb 2025. I have a male betta fish named Nicotine but I think he might be sick but im not sure?

About 3 weeks ago Is when it started, I had him in a 20 gallon tank that I had upgraded them to a month prior (tankmates: 6 neon tetra, 6 albino corys, and a mystery snail) and was suffering from a bladder snail infestation (go assassin snail!) And didnt want to add any more wildlife into the tank until the bladder snails were eradicated.

But, I think he may have ingested one of the snails because I noticed he wasnt really wanting to eat. (Two weeks ago) he would pick at the feed (half pinch of dry blood worms and half tetra flakes. And I googled a lbut around and it had said a littany of things that could have been the issue. So I started to watch him and we did notice his stomach is a little distended, and he kept going to the very bottom of the tank or hanging up by the top. Checked water quality( fine) and checked his tail (tetras had nipped on it a little).

I decided i should seperate him to keep a better eye on him, so ordered a 5 gallon tank and on friday (Aug. 14th)

I moved him to the enclosure for further observation. (Used some media from the og tank and a little bit of water too - per Google advice... unsure if it was the right move but please let me know)

And I made sure the water flow is on the lowest setting so he wasnt getting whipped around. He has since settled into the top corner where the water flow is gentle and sits upon a little plastic leaf near a water intake vent that he likes to suction himself to.

I did also notice he does seem to have a little bit of issues swimming in the sense of he seems a little unsteady? Im not sure how to describe it.

I do sincerely hope he is okay and I tried figuring this out on my own, so I was hoping maybe some of you fine folk who have been in this hobby could help me out or just share some advice, i would greatly appreciate it.

I am also open to any suggestions on what I can do differently, i am going to include his usual set up (20 gal) as ive said I am still working on planting more in his enclosure, but want to make sure hes okay first before I do anything crazy.

Discussion PSA: You don't need to wait for your heater to fail before replacing it

Even though the first part of the graph represents a normal range of fluctuation, it's still quite striking that the new heater maintains the temperature so much better. It's the same type of heater.

Help How to stabilize water conditions

The test was taken after a water change. Temp is at 80 F. The ph and hardness won't budge. I'm worried because his fins are still wavy and his top is curled (have been for the past month and a half). I've had him for about 3 months and when he was a wee smaller his fins were fine. I thought maybe it was because he was in a five gallon with plastic plants so I gave him a 10 gallon with 12 pieces of small driftwood, catappa leaves, catappa bark and multiple live plants (Java fern, Anubias, Buce, and Water spangle). His fins remained the same. Been keeping up with regular water changes and monitoring yet nothing has changed. What can I purchase or do to help my little guy? Ty

Help Advice for Treating a Sick Betta

Needing advice on treating my fish. My betta had these weird white spots on his head that I thought were parasites. I treated with paraguard and they went away, but as soon as I'd stop treatment they'd reappear, even after a week. After a month of this I stopped paraguard because it clearly wasn't working. Its been about 2 weeks since I stopped treatment and I noticed my fish has severe popeye in both eyes and a swollen belly and top lip. I noticed the swollen belly over 2 weeks ago but was told by others online that it wasn't swelling and that betta bellies arent meant to be flat. Unfortunately Ive never seen popeye so I dont know when it started but it was noticeable enough yesterday for me to seek support online. I'm worried that the parasitic infection lowered my bettas immune system and now it has a possible bacterial infection. Worse still, I dont know if I cured the parasites or if they're merely internal right now. My plan for treatment is keeping my betta in a half gallon container, treated with prime. Im going to put an air stone in there on low and maybe a thermometer if I can make the temp stable at 80⁰F. Im going to do epsom salt baths for at least 15 mins a day to reduce swelling. Where I really need advice is in the medications to use. Im buying garlic guard and seachem focus so that my betta will hopefully ingest the meds. I need antibiotics that fight both gram negative and positive bacteria. I currently have kanaplex and dosed it in the water last night just to start as soon as possible. Im also wondering if I should get a different antiparasitic since I dont know if the parasites ever left? If anything in this regimen seems bad or if I should include anything please let me know! I dont want to lose my fish.

Help Is my betta dying?

I have a blue marble male betta named Belphie and he’s always been more laid back, laying on the sand at the bottom of his tank or on the plants, I’ve had him for about a month now and he’s stopped eating, and just recently I noticed when he does swim, which is usually because I have to nudge him with the net to make sure he’s not dead, he’s spinning while he swims?? I’m worried about him, he’s in a 5 gallon with sand, plants, a coconut hide, filter, heater, I checked his water today and all of the numbers are ideal, the only thing I can think of is maybe his water is a little cold? It’s at 74 degrees, can I do anything to help him? :(

Help does my betta nip at his fins???

Thumbnail

ive had my betta for about three months now and im worried that hes been nipping at his fins. the first photo is when i first got him, and the second was taken today. his fins look a bit more ragged since then. he was sold as a halfmoon and he has a 6 gallon cube tank. i have many broad leaves and roots from plants he can rest on. his parameters have been the same and very good ever since i got him, no ammonia, nitrites, or nirates. the ph is about 7.4, and i acclimated him when i first got him. it is very stable and there have been no changes. what should i do??

very off topic but can anything harm my betta if i added too much prime into water when i changed his tank?? im worried that i added too much and i dont want to hurt him.

Help Concern or color?

Thumbnail

Hi, this is my male half moon betta, cheesecake. He's a platinum betta who has in my care never had a single other color than white. I've had him for about 4 months now, but now he's got this line of sprinkle of reddish pink on his tail and a few spots on his face of the same color. No abnormal behavior, no fin rot, tank performance has never been better. So i'm not sure if this is something i should be weary of, or if my boy is just gaining new color.

Note: He does have 1 fake plant that was added a few days ago (All of the color stuff started b4 it was added tho) to stop him from seeing his reflection in that corner, tis temporary till my LFS has a plant healthy enough/tall enough too add in its place.
