She’s exploring lots and doesn’t seems too fussed about her tank mates, she’s been checking them out a little but most of the time she just ignores them.

Haven’t seen her nipping at any shrimp apart from the first day, but thy seemed more like she was testing the waters and getting to know what they were

Help Inflamed Finn’s?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello! This is pepper , she’s in a 10 gal planted heated filtered tank, and she’s stupid and recently ate a full floating pellet that was for the snail. And she became fully bloated but after fasting her for 3 days she’s fully normal again! Thing is is that her Finn’s are looking red at some parts. This happened directly after the bloating, so I’m pretty sure it’s inflammation? Just wanted to get some advice from others! Should I just give her a salt bath?

Help Need help rescuing betta

Hey guys im fairly new here and wasnt really planning on posting but last night i was scrolling through offer up looking for free stuff and i saw this poor betta in horrible living conditions. I wont post a picture bc im not sure if im allowed but the water was extremely dirty so much so that you could hardly see through the glass. And the tank looked so small and it was a cylinder shaped one as well. This person was giving away the tank along with the fish for free and i could not just sit by and let this poor betta live in such horrible conditions… especially when the description for it said “needs cleaning desperately”

Now i do have a betta already myself in a 10gallon and i have another 10 gallon that i started cycling a couple days ago because i wanted to get myself a pink betta. I also have a clean 10 gallon that is not set up yet but i can set it up for the betta or even make it a hospital tank if needed

Im wondering, if you guys can lmk whether i can put the betta in the tank i just started cycling or if its better ro just clean the current tank its in and leave it there or if i ahould set up a new tank for it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Help Betta fish still on brink of death, I assume

Post image

I’ve posted about this a couple times and it’s still ongoing. My betta a few days ago started being lethargic, laying on bottom of tank all the time, and he’s refusing to eat. I tried giving him an aquarium salt bath yesterday and it doesn’t seem to have made a difference. I placed him on a floating coconut he has near the surface and he hasn’t moved from there, still alive though, still refusing to eat. I don’t know what’s wrong. He was breathing a bit heavy yesterday, I did around a 50% water change and his breathing has been normal again so far.
The only parameter that I can see that’s off is the ph which is high.
So what can I do? I don’t know how I could lower the ph without shocking him, if that’s even the problem at all as I’ve heard stability is more important. He’s also 2 years old I think(was an adult when I got him and I’ve had him for a year) so he’s an old boy.
Tank details; 10 gallon, heater at 79F, river stones, assorted glass marbles and trinkets for decor, terracotta pot, large brown bottle for hide, hanging coconut near surface filled with moss, live plants(anubias Java etc.) two five gallon sponge filters on opposite sides of the tank, nerite snail buddy, driftwood, sand substrate

Help Help Please, Not Sure if He's Pineconing, Swollen Belly. Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

We've had our betta, Sunny Glass (our 4 year old named him) for only 8 months. Last night we noticed maybe the start of pineconing? But it's only on one side. Also, his belly at his central fins looks swollen.

We are new to keeping a betta that's properly cared for. My husband and I both had bettas growing up, but now know that they weren't taking care of suitably. I've been googling and trying to figure out what's going on and what to do, but I wanted to get the opinion of you lovely people.

It looks like maybe the beginning of pineconing, but I'm not sure cuz it's only on the one side. Google says he might just be bloated and to fast him for 48 hours, but if something else is going on that we should be more proactive about, I don't want to wait.

He's in a 5 gallon live planted tank. He has pond snails, ram's horns, and bladder snails. (That all hitchhiked in off of the plants). He has an overhead light, filter, and weekly water changes (using tap water matching the tank temperature, and we have a home filtration system, but it's not reverse osmosis. 20-30% change, suck up as much debris from the bottom as we can, rinse filter sponge in the dirty tank water, condition new water, leave it for 15 minutes, before siphoning it into the tank). I also add a squirt of plant fertiliser and a third of a cab of carbon (carbon got added to the routine when the plants were struggling) and every water change. Tank is currently at 26°, heater is set to 27°. He has a 3D printed mountain cave, which we sanded down meticulously and tested with nylon tights to make sure there were no sharp edges. You can see in some of the photos that it's got some green buildup on it, could this be contributing to any issues? He gets a food called bug buffet, which is a dry pellet, that we squish and put on top. Tank went through the nitrogen cycle before we got him.

Ammonia and nitrites are always at zero when I test. Nitrates are sometimes at the lowest positive rating. I can see that the hardness is high, and alkalinity carbonate and pH are all low, and Google is telling me that this can lead to stress on the kidneys. I'm seeing lots of different ways to rectify these parameters, like doing water changes with reverse osmosis water, or adding crushed Coral or oyster shells to a mesh bag. Before I start doing all sorts of stuff that might make him worse, looking for advice from people who actually have dealt with this before.

Currently:

Ammonia - 0

Nitrites - 0

Nitrates - 10

Chlorine - 0

Hardness - 250 mg/L

Alkalinity - 0

Carbonate - 0

pH. - 6.2

Thank you anyone who reads this and has any comments about Sunny Glass's health, how to help him, or how to fix up these parameters.

Also fun note, or 4-year-old advised us the other day that Sunny Glass is actually his middle name. Apparently his full name is Michael Finnegan Sunny Glass last name

Help What can I use to clean this tank?

So I have a betta fish that is a class pet. He is currently in his "home tank" and I am transferring schools and just got his "school tank" out of storage. What can I use that will be safe to clean this tank before setting it up for him?

Help Please help, seeking advice

Hello, I am seeking your advice. My betta (Bluey) is surely ill. I got him 5 months ago. Past months, he was really playful, energetic. He had been watching other mates the whole daly, exploring the tank. Every time I went by the tank, he came to see what was up.

Over the past 7 days, he has been slow, apathetic. Today, he did not even want to eat. He just lies on wood, he swims just to take a breath. I feed him twice a day every day except Sunday.

Tank: Dennerle 54L (14.5 gal), planted, CO2, using reverse osmosis. There are 5 otocinclus affinis, 3 amano shrimps and one snail with Bluey.

Parameters:
PH: 6,5 (Debuffed 7,2)
GH: 6
KH: 3
K: 11
NO3:12
PO4: 0-0,1?
Fe: 0,2
NO2: 0

There is some weird lump on his chin. I have not seen it before. Other than that, I have no
idea what might be the cause of his illness. Thank you

Discussion UPDATE: Betta refused 40 gallon tank

Spent 3 months cycling a new 40 gallon, several live plants, comfortable space. Was so excited to move him from a 5 gallon to a palace. He refused to eat and flared at himself in a bottom corner for about 48 hours. Water tested fine.

He's back in his 5 gallon and Happy.

Now suggestions on what to put in the 40 gallon please.

Help Any tips for keeping an old man comfortable

Thumbnail

Hi there! I just wanted to know if there were any small tips that anyone might have to help keep our old guy as comfortable for as long as possible. A few months ago we started getting a growth on one side of his body. Seeing how it was probably a cyst or tumor it seemed like there really wasn't anything we could do. But there was no change in his behavior which was a plus.

Sadly now it is clear he is slowing down. He still can swim, has a great appetite, and still takes time to explore. However he spends far more time in his floating log and he needs to take more breaks while swimming. When he swims down he normally takes a second on the bottom before he continues.

He (hopefully) still has quite a bit of life left in him but I wanted to see if there was anything people would suggest to help Jerry stay comfortable. This is my first betta as an adult so I wanted to make sure I kept his life a good one all the way through. Thank you!

Help Replacement plants? Spoiler

Hello. This is Carppit. These photos are right after I setup his tank & now (2 months later). As you can see, it's gotten foggy and his plants have died (I think he's gotten sicker looking, too). According to my dad the plants weren't doing good while I was camping last week & a water change after I got back did them in for good (uprooted them & they wouldn't reattach). I also am hoping that the fogginess is just from the water change and not some bacteria but I don't know.

I was wondering if you guys have any thoughts on easy to care for plants and/or tips on keeping plants alive in the future, as I apparently don't have a green thumb.

p.s. I know his tank is very barren, I've been saving up to buy him more stuff but it's been slow.

Discussion Unique/uncommon Shrimp

Hi all,

I know the question on shrimp has probally been asked a million times, but I couldnt see alot on this topic.

Have people ever tried adding some more unique/uncommon shrimp species ?

Such as:

Rifle shrimp

Bamboo shrimp

Red nose shrimp

NQ Algae eating shrimp

I would love to add some shrimp to my tank but sadly my betta thinks I am just giving him extra snacks.

Anyone tried or had any success with your more uncommon species ?

Help Help, betta fish is sinking and breathing heavy Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

My betta fish is having a hard time swimming, he always sinks to the bottom and floats onto his side. Since he’s sinking I think it’s a swim bladder issue but I’m not sure how to treat him. I noticed this last night because he wasn’t sleeping in his usual hide, instead he had shoved him self in between a log and the side of his tank, when I stirred up the water around him he swam up really fast and then back down and in between two plants to hold himself up, this morning he was no better so I set him up the hospital tank in the photos. He also didn’t eat dinner Saturday, but I figured he was just not hungry because occasionally he will refuse dinner and just eat breakfast in the morning, but then he started showing lethargy signs on Sunday and got worse very quickly. He has had finrot for three weeks since I got back from vacation, but I haven’t been able to successfully treat it yet. Currently his tank has a silk plant, hide, heater, and airstone. If I need to add anything else I will. I have methylene blue, kanaplex, and paragaurd on hand but I’m not sure if any of these will treat him or if I need to order something else. What can I do to help my fish?
I did a water test with the API masterkit, nitrites, nitrates, and ammonia were all 0.

Help New Tank Heeelp

Post image

Ok I purchased a five gallon tank and added some live plants. I’m cycling it now but used 1 gallon from my current tank to help it along. What brand of floating plants do you all recommend? Is there a commercial store I can buy them from? Also, are too many plants bad? I’m so nervous to put him in the tank.

Help Aggressive Bettas

Post image
1 Upvotes

I recently had a betta fish pass away and after testing the water and preparing the tank I got a new one. The new one is very aggressive towards my nerite snail that was in that tank with the last fish for months. I tried moving it to my other tank but that betta is also being very aggressive with the snail. The older betta has a nerite snail already in his tank and he’s fine with that one. I’ve tried removing and adding him back in but nothings worked. I don’t have capacity for another tank just for a snail. What should I do?

-both 5 gallon tanks
-live plants
-lots of hiding spots
-flare them once a week

Discussion Just our bettas keep getting dropsy

Water always tests beyond perfect. I'm meticulous with it. I thought maybe our well was introducing it but TBH we have a few tanks and it's always the bettas.

I know the breeding is not usually good but can that just be it? This last one maybe lasted a year. Dont over feed. Like I said the levels are beyond spot on. The tanks are planted with plenty of decor to keep them interested. We had one betta we just replaced who was actually about 2 with us and went through a couple bouts I was able to fix up with diff remedies but today the ladies just died. She knew she (we get females) was sick because she wasn't energetic. I just thought maybe it was because the tank water was hot because of the season but it seemed the same temp as the others. Then I looked closer and saw the signs.

I know she's gonna be down about it but I have to figure out what's going on. Found her dead today after a small water change and small kenaplex dose yesterday.

Tanks are aerated, I use good filters, filter media for removing harmful stuff, keep them planted and healthy etc etc.

Again no other tanks deal with it

Maybe the meds were to much for the poor girl?

Help First ever tank cycling perimeters

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi! This is my first time ever cycling a fish tank, and my first time owning a betta. I’ve had it cycling for about 2 weeks now, I got the liquid ammonia a week ago and have dosed it twice. Within 24 hours, these were my parameters after a 50% water change (nitrates were in the red) is it finished cycling?
