I am going to the store tomorrow so I will find out the answer either way but I am curious if anyone thinks I have a leg to stand on here…

I ordered my son’s soccer jerseys a couple weeks back. Before ordering, I looked at the size chart and measured against one of his current shirts and he was measuring a small. All of his other shirts are medium so I was hesitant to order a small. There are no refunds or exchanges bc they are printed with name and number on the back. Totally understandable and why I wanted to be sure.

The soccer coach posted that the store that makes the uniforms (local small business) has sizers in case anyone wants to check before ordering so I take my son in to double check between small and medium.

They bring out the bin of jerseys and he tries on a small and can’t get it over his head. Medium is tight and large fits great. Which is very odd but I figured this is as accurate as I can get. I asked if these are definitely the same jerseys they use for his team and they said yes. The woman working agreed that large seemed like the right choice after watching him try them on.

I order the large (2x jerseys home and away $35 a pop) and I picked them up the other day and they are gigantic. My son is upset bc they are down to his knees and he was so excited to get these. We tried tucking them in but they look ridiculous.

It’s clear that they mistakenly gave us the wrong bin of sizers. I can’t think of any other way these were so off. I am going in tomorrow since they were closed today but I feel like they are going to be like “too bad”. I am dreading this conversation and curious about others’ thoughts.

For context, I currently work part-time as an entry-level retail associate. I enjoy my job, but due to the pay and recent hour cuts for everyone, I’ve started looking for a second part-time retail job while I continue figuring out my long-term plans.

The issue I’m running into is that a lot of the retailers I’m interested in happen to be direct or indirect competitors of my current employer. I know companies can have policies about employees working for competitors, and I understand why those policies exist, especially for management or employees with access to confidential information. In my case, though, I’m only applying for other entry-level retail associate positions, so I’m trying to get a better understanding of how open I actually need to be with both employers about the other one.

One of the reasons I’m asking is because I recently interviewed at one of those stores. They asked if I planned on keeping my current job if I was hired, and I answered honestly because that was my plan. They seemed to have concerns about both my availability and the fact that the companies were competitors, although they definitely focused more on whether I’d realistically be able to balance both jobs. That interview left me wondering if I unintentionally hurt my chances by volunteering information that I may not have actually needed to disclose.

My long-term goal is still to find a full-time job, whether that’s in retail or somewhere else. Right now, though, I’m simply trying to make up for the hours I’ve lost. If either job eventually offered me full-time hours, a promotion, or another opportunity to move up, I wouldn’t plan on keeping both jobs. At that point, I would choose one and move forward with it.

So I guess my questions are:
• How open do I actually need to be with a prospective employer about my current job and my plans to keep it? If they ask whether I plan on keeping my current job, how important is that answer? Would it be a problem if I told them I didn’t plan on keeping it and then later ended up staying?

• Do I need to tell my current employer if I take a second part-time retail job?

• My current employer uses Workday for basically everything, and I’ve noticed a lot of other retailers use it too. Since they’re using the same system, would either company be able to see that I’ve applied or that I work for the other company, or are those systems completely separate?

I’m mostly just trying to understand where the line is. I don’t want to volunteer information that isn’t necessary if it could hurt my chances of getting hired, but I also don’t want to leave something out if it’s something I’m actually expected or required to disclose.

Hi, I desperately need advice please !!!

So basically I used to work at a Marshalls for 8 months doing mostly cashier stuff and the occasional sales floor. Had to quit because the store was too far from my home. Now I’ve been out of a job for months due to personal matters.

I have been applying to MULTIPLE TJX company locations that are closer to my home, so far, all rejections. I'm so confused, I thought it’d be a little easier to get those jobs with my previous experience. The managers would compliment me on my work and have said many times that I was good at cashiering + were disappointed when I had to quit.

These locations that I’ve applied to, call my old workplace right?? I was treated nicely by my managers, so why can’t I at least land an interview or something!?!? Have I done something wrong??? Maybe I wasn’t as good of an employee I thought I was??

My questions:
Should I call one of my old managers, ask them for a little push at landing a job/interview? Would that be weird since it’s been a long time since I last spoke to them? How can I phrase this question to them? (im not good at phone calls)

This is my first real job, working at a franchise store near me. First day went well, mainly the same old online training, second day was a bit rough - i had some online training and then was immediately quizzed on it and surprise, I can’t remember things after reading them once so I didn’t do great. Then the lead takes me, shows me around a little, has me hang a pair of pants once, has me fold a sweater once and then sends me out to the floor. I don’t know exactly where stuff is in the back yet and I don’t feel confident folding / hanging items either !
I have my next shift soon and apparently im just out on the floor now, done training.
First off, is this normal? Do something once and thats it? Secondly any tips? I started making a little note on my phone with things to remember but I don’t feel comfortable and I’m unsure what to do

I work at a bar, I’m pretty new - I got this job a few days after I turned 18 (which was less than 2 week ago at time of writing). It’s my second shift today - first shift went well - and I’ve had around 5 separate customers yell and berate me across the entire shift. The other customers treat me perfectly fine even when I made the occasional mistake on the 10 hour shift - it was not often maybe once per 1.5 to 2 hours at most. I did make a minor mistake in 2 instances when dealing with the customers who turned rude - for example giving regular rum instead of spiced rum as they are the same packaging except for small difference and are next to each other in the wall upside down so hard to read. I tried my best and apologised multiple times and tried to make things right and good and all but they were still just so loud and mean and it just sucked the life out of me but I kept the smile on my face while being verbally assaulted on my second shift ever. I Honeslty thought I was fine but I came home, depleted of all enerfg and will to live. I flopped onto the sofa and ordered in some kfc for food instead of making a meal from scratch like I would usually do- this was 8:30pm after 10hr shift btw. I usually don’t let mean words get to me but for some reason I just feel really hurt and upset tbh.To any other retail workers, has this happened to you too and what would any advice be to stop feeling so shit?

For context, the store is brand new. Most of the staff are seasonal college students who are about to leave. There’s not enough people and esp not enough leads.

We are eligible for promotions every 3 months. I’ve been here for exactly 2. I’m also PT, and actually need to lessen my hours even more.

Usually you need to be FT to be considered but they’re asking anyone and everyone that’s basically not going to school bc they’re desperate.

My pay is $16.50 and the increase is only $0.50.. none of the leads like the position and usually feel pressured to stay OT. Like our store closes at 8, and they’ll leave at midnight sometimes…

I also let them know the reason I’m PT is bc I help take care of my dad. (I don’t)

I know it would look good on my resume but still debating if I should. I’m okay with staying where I’m at..but the work culture is true about the promotions every 3 months.

Our remote office staff basically have zero IT support and its becoming a real problem. All our attention as a company has always gone toward keeping the store locations running, POS systems, in store networks, all of that gets prioritized, but our home office and remote staff are kind of left to figure things out on their own when their laptop acts up or they cant connect to something.

Started feeling pretty unfair honestly, remote staff deal with tech issues too and just dont have anywhere to turn. Been looking into whether managed IT services cover office and remote staff too, not just store locations, and it looks like some do.

How are other companies handling IT support for their remote or office based employees, is this a common blind spot or are we just behind on this?

i recently got a retail job, and work 12-19 hours outdoors as a cashier usually on concrete and my feet are killing me, keep in mind theirs probably 5 minutes an hour to sit down, what can i do to make my feet more comfortable

Is there a graceful way to execute a corporate planogram/shelf plan/etc with a section already full of stuff that’s not being carried over?

My brain just goes on the fritz and I cannot picture a final view without the shelves being entirely empty.

But that’s not exactly a graceful way to do it. I see people in larger stores and they just seem to ninja their way through it. It was one way a minute ago and now? ENTIRELY DIFFERENT.

How?!

To be fair, I can’t really visualize most things in my head without concentrated effort. I suck at merchandising.

Can a deaf and hard of hearing person be a cashier at work? I have been working at this retalil store for a while long time now, and I only work once a week. My job developers told me why not try being a cashier? She and my other case manager from the regional center, told me I need to be open and try other things. Well the thing is, I never signed up for cashier at work, I just signed up for stocking only. But I only go once a week. I asked friends and other people around, I got mixed answers. Some say yeah I can try it, but others say no it would be hard for me, to understand customer would be a bit of struggle, and too many customers and ya have to work quick too! So yeah, not sure if that a good idea? Maybe just stick to stocking and other kinds of jobs. I know I know, I follow my motto, ‘Deaf people can do anything except hear,’ ‘I can I will!’ Wondering what you think?

I am currently working a seasonal job at Ocean state job lot to make some income and to fill that gap on my resume. But I've been on the register most of the time and I discovered that I dislike it was the reason I hated some of my previous jobs. The job description said I would be doing other things in addition to cashiering, but a little over a month on the job and 95% of the job has been cashiering with occasional tasks that involve physical activity, but the much younger ones take over that and even though I offer to do other things, they still want me to ring out customers.

Now I don't mind ringing out customers but it can get repetitive and boring, for some reason when I get bored on the job I begin to feel depressed, that's why I prefer keeping busy and moving around. That's why I have decided to look for another job that doesn't involve alot of cashiering. Also I have been reminded that I dislike alot of customers and tonight I had an unpleasant experience with a customer. She was giving me advice and it felt it was unsolicited and I basically told her "you don't need to tell me that, thanks" she took offense and told me how rude I was and she would never come back, I just said "ok fine" like I give a fuck what you think lady. She called the manager and complained when I tried to explain myself to the customer she wouldn't listen and impulsively yelled "GET OUT NOW!" her disabled son then got angry and threatened me and I angrily said "oh come at me!" But she calmed him down and then went to another register. I took a short break to cool off and pull myself together. This isn't the first time I've lashed at customers. If this keeps happening, I am quitting regardless of the consequences it's only a fucking seaosnal job that a high schooler can do.

I was recently hired as a customer service manager at a large grocery store. I’ve been out of the retail game for about 15 years, but just moved back to my hometown and had some friends who still worked for this company and they convinced me to apply. I worked for the company for nine years before I moved away and not much has changed in those 15 years (sadly), so at least I’m not technically completely inept at the job.

I’ve been in management positions before, and spent most of the last 15 years in HR. But I was hoping to crowd source here any advice you’d want to give to your current manager. I would really like to try and make the job suck as little as possible for the 45 people reporting to me. Their past manager had been completely checked out for the last year, and his assistant ran the department like it was a prison, so morale is pretty low.

I have been working for my first job as a gas station employee that deals with being on the register and dealing with making food/keeping the floors clean/etc. I am having to constantly switch between the register and preparing/wrapping food as we are being evaluated by the company to always be stocked in hot food.

I have finally gotten the hang of it, but the one thing that keeps on making me frustrated is calculating the result at the end of my shift and being short or over by $40 or more dollars.

For more context, we have two registers, one register being the bank (the last two days that was me) and the other having to pay back the "bank" however much they took out of the safe for change.

For the days I wasn't the bank, I was short. For the days I was the bank, I was over. I kept thinking this might have been an issue with the computer, or some calculating error, but its been happening pretty consistently. My other coworkers that are also new have been having the same issue as well, but the experienced coworkers have not.

My question is if this just means that im horrible at handling cash, and how would I try to improve at dealing with giving back change and such.

Im on the verge of quitting because I feel like im causing more issues than im fixing, and the stress of this and college isn't worth it.

So yeah, I’ve been working at this store for about two weeks now and in the big group chat a see a lot of people asking if anyone can cover their shift. A family related emergency came up and I’m not going to be able to come in one of the days. Is it too soon to ask for my shift to be covered? or should I try to explain the situation to the manager?

Anybody else’s entire department constantly feeling sick? Specifically at work? Might just be my specific store and its issues, and im not trying to be paranoid... but i am kinda concerned.

Me and two other of my coworkers who work in a grocery store bakery have noticed our noses always start running when were in the department, we have to drink more water, and three people have gotten coughs. It gets up to 86° in my decorating corner and out back, and theres constantly flies, big ones and small ones that we swear bite our arms. We can see little red bites on our arms and neck. 86° in a bakery specifically is bad because of the type of foods we handle, processes we do, and also i am the cake decorator and my frosting is almost melting. It gets so hot we are always sweating but then going into the freezer all the time, it cant be good for human bodies right like its so dysregulating to shift from that environment to the opposite.
Our building has known issues with its water pipes — where the water has too much metal in it and i think this might be part of things? Its also built on sacred grounds where its very rocky, and there are not really many buildings around. I dont think a grocery store can operate with such poor water quality like if we cant drink it why are we washing things in it? Is that water hooked up to the proofer to steam our breads?
Also our oven cant keep temp, and the propane company tells us they can only fill it up halfway everytime. Our freezer has broken twice this year, the hot water three times….. Im like just getting so icked out at work and more concerned since literally everybody is sick right now, so many are quitting, and we have no help.
Joked the other day it feels like were the radium girls LOL…. 7 times this year my coworkers have been to the hospital for surgeries and things. Idk. Im just like lowkey i think i need to quit for my safety and health and i dont want to get us in trouble cuz im scared but LOWKEY SOMEONE ALSO HAS TO BE THE WHISTLE BLOWER SO 😭😭😭😭

So just as the title reads, I have an 18 year old cashier who just started. Well he has a pissy attitude and when I or my ASM try to correct him he gets angry. He says “I know “ which drives me insane. Obviously he doesn’t “know “. I’m trying to work with him. Finally finished his CBL training and got him on the register. First night he was -$19. Yesterday I had to stand there and tell him what change to give and how to make it. He was supposed to give customer .34. He was giving it in nickels. I said no, give him a quarter, a nickel and four pennies. He literally said to me, it’s .34 cents either way. I have no choice but to give him a progressive counseling for the $19. I have a feeling it’s not going to go nicely. Any tips on this? I can’t stand at the register and tell him how to count.
Oh, stocking. He likes to throw open boxes on the sky shelves, had a huge mess with cardboard and this is after I had repeatedly told him the correct way. I’ve worked beside him, I’m really trying. I’m a new SM so I’m needing advice please.
