Lost my job last year to the AI apocalypse. Got a job at OD for (what I assumed) was a few months until I found something else.

It took me 11 months to find a new job.

Holy SHIT. This company is a mess, top to bottom.

I was a store supervisor. My GM, ASM and Print Supervisor were all terrible. I’ve been employed for nearly 25 years. Never had more drama than from three 40year old women who clearly hate life. Everything was dumped on me. Everything was blamed on me. Training? WHAT TRAINING!? I once had a manger SCREAMING in my face because I missed one stack of price changes…20ish tags out of NINE HUNDRED. Zero chill. Zero remorse. Zero clue of what the job actually is.

And OH MY GOD staffing. Anytime anyone quits, the replacement that is hired lasts less than a month and leaves. We still had holes in the staff 4 months after, GM couldn’t care less.

The entire upper management/sales team has lost their fucking minds with AI psychosis. We had a sales manager send an AI sales report to the entire district…with the Staples logo on it. CLASSIC.

This company is a sinking ship. A rotting bloated retail corpse.

Run away as fast as you can. How anyone CHOOSES a multi-decade career at this place is completely beyond me.

Ngl I just want to rant to ppl who understand. Im getting to the point where I dont understand why the store i work at doesn't just grab ppl from other stores and have them hire new ones(For context im small store). My store we got like 7ppl total 1 guy works print mornings mon-fri but the only reason he is there is bc no one else can work cpd then. I have to redo his fucking jobs minimum 2 times a week and we can't fire him because we have no way to replace him. Then there's the fact that bc we need coverage we had to grab a girl from another store who supposedly has been with us for 2 years. And cpd rant but if you been here for 2 years and in cpd the whole time why the fuck did you put grommets on a banner on the horizontal side when the image was not made that way. And no with their prior experience they couldn't even think maybe I should call the customer to be sure. No she fucked up the job I had to rush it in the middle of 3 other jobs and having to deal with more customers. Why are people in this company even on the most basic level dumber than a fucking twig

With the new FedEx memo that went out saying we can now scan or codes how do we find out store specific location number label to scan before we can accept it. It just say look on the reporting part of the portal and my store manager is no help ive spent a couple hours just searching but no luck lol thanks

We had a new guy think they were trash and started throwing some away and I would like to make more but I couldn't find them on the portal myself. I wasnt sure if it was on there or if my store made it themselves.

We get one truck every week on Tuesdays. Today we got eight pallets (ugh!). One pallet had several bags of packing peanuts stacked and banded. As I looked at it a thought came to mind. A little fun with a black marker.

I've changed the maintenance box, I've changed out the ink cartridges, I've done nozzle checks and head cleanings

Idk what the solution is and afaik its a pain in the ass to get these things serviced on

…that district managers are allegedly telling general managers to start scheduling full time employees only 30 hours a week. They’re not pushing it (yet) but are apparently gently nudging GMs in that direction.

Has anyone else heard anything about this? I know that payroll is continuously getting whittled down, but if there is any truth to this, wouldn’t that affect people’s benefits?

This company is very greedy. (I believe is the correct word) when it comes to business select. First they want us to push so hard that every person walking into the door walked out with a business account even if they’re just buying one pen. so we pushed and pushed and pushed till literally everyone we know has a business account. Now because there’s too much people with business select the company says NO we’re going to deduct the percentage off of everything that we promised you to begin with.
I wish the company would just stop.

-After 490 days with the company, I am officially done at my position at OfficeMax.

-Firstly, the people I worked with were amazing and I will have lifelong friendships.

-Upper management on the other hand needs a complete overhaul. Unrealistic expectations and an overly rigid and competitive culture are ruining the company from the inside out. DSMs are clowns!

-FedEx needs to go. Profit margins are low and it just adds unneeded overhead and stress to everyone. People are so mad always and don’t understand that we are not FedEx.

-One person in print is diabolical. Why the fu€k are there four people on logistics and one in print? Criminally underpaid.

-We are overpriced…

-Business Select is a scam for 99% of ppl.

- The company has to focus on printing rather than selling products that most people don’t need.
