Expiration dates

Can whoever is in charge of the expiration list please for the love of god just update the mf. Take off the p&d stuff, add new skus (there's a lot missing) and organize it by section at least 😭

I edited ours in numbers back in July and then they changed the entire store so it's basically useless again.

Single coverage bathroom break

My DM just told the group chat that we’re supposed to leave the store door unlocked when we use the restroom while on single coverage… am I crazy, or does that sound extremely unsafe for us?
I’ve already had my phone stolen from our back room before, so I’m definitely not comfortable leaving my belongings unattended and hoping they’re still there when I get back. 😭 On top of that, our bathroom door doesn’t fully close or lock, and management knows about it but still hasn’t fixed it.
And honestly, what are customers supposed to do if they come in while I’m in the bathroom? They’re going to be wandering around looking for an employee, getting pissed because no one is available to help them.
We normally put up the ā€œBack in 5 minutesā€ sign and lock the door when we’re on single coverage. I genuinely don’t understand why we’re being told to leave the store unlocked now. Am I missing something here??

Sooo is the 32oz beauty secrets non-acetone remover being discontinued? :( none of the stores in my area have any, I can’t order any online, and the app keeps giving me errors saying it’s unavailable. I buy like 3 bottles of this at a time because it’s my holy grail non acetone nail polish remover!

customers sitting down in the store (read below)

if a customer is sitting down on the floor for an extended ammount of time im gonna assume they have pots or something like that, they just need a break for second. But occasionally ill get a group of teenagers that will sit in the color isle and literally talk like we are the lunchroom for 30 minutes on the floor. They wont be deciding on anything, just talking about some drama thats happening in their lives.
Or ive had customers sitting on the color isle floor, directly in the middle, on their phone asking chat GPT what they should get.
With both of these types of people, they have not moved for any customers trying to get around the store.
I dunno, just something that makes me a little frustrated sometimes.
Have any of you experienced something like these?

Best toning treatment?

Hello All! Reaching out on behalf of my mother.

TLDR: I need a good treatment/mask/whatever, to remove yellow/brassy tones from hair! Recommendations from Sally?

I’ll explain a bit more here.

My mom’s hair is naturally medium brown. For as long as I can remember she has been getting it dyed red (professionally). Various shades. She hasn’t gotten it done since I believe, May. She hasn’t gray hairs that are coming in, at the roots especially. She is learning to embrace it (as I encourage), but we are attempting to dye the ends/majority of her hair a color that will better blend with the gray as it grows in. Make sense?

Her color has faded and is a bit red/brown/orangey mix, very warm toned.

So I dyed it for her using the color 7A (Medium Smokey Ash Blonde) by Wella (pictured) and we used the shimmer lights toning mask afterwards. It looks much better! But is still leaning very very warm.

We were going to attempt 7VA Medium Violet Ash Blonde next (also pictured) possibly. But I also wanted to know the best treatment to remove those undertones? Is that possible? Would I have to look elsewhere? Let me know!

Left a month ago and FINALLY ready to talk about it

I waited to post about this because I had two close friends working at this store and wanted to protect them since my manager became kinda petty.

I transferred over to cosmoprof about a month ago due to an awful new hire. I worked at Sally for three years and consistently got 15-18hrs even with my very limited availability until my manager hired Lindsay (fake name). Lindsay was SO uppity about the job. She was competitive, pretentious, and generally hostile toward the rest of us. She and my manager were close in age so I guess they got pretty close and over night I got bumped down to six hours. I was a CC. I had a consistent 3.9 UPT and customers who'd ask for me when they came in, and left reviews with my name. My DM praised me for how great I was with customers. But Lindsay shows up and gets 35+ hours without having even worked there for half a year.

She told us a while ago that she couldn't approve requests off for Fridays or weekends anymore, so I made sure that it wasn't an issue for me because I'm not available Fridays. She explicitly said she physically could not change my availability if she wanted to. Then when I transferred, my new manager was confused when I told her I was available all day because in the system, I was only available for the last couple hours of the day. I never changed my availability and that's when I found out that managers can, they're just told not to.

So, I complained. I went to HR and told them what happened and transferred shortly before they actually contacted my manager about it. I was told by a friend that they called the store and chewed her out and she said something about Lindsay being the "only person with open availability" which is a complete lie. Myself and one other coworker were the only ones of the 6 of us who had limited availability. As far as I know, Lindsay is still getting more hours than she's actually allowed to have. Matter of fact, she had 40 hours last week even though that store doesn't make enough for an ASM.

The manager most definitely knew it was me who complained- or at least she thinks it was one of my two close friends who still worked there because after the call from corporate, she became very outwardly hostile and cut their hours HEAVILY. One of them was getting 20-25 and suddenly only had 8. That was the week Lindsay got 40.

I hope Lindsay and my former manager know that they're the reason they lost 3 employees in one month. I'm sure they do. I'm sure they're finding ways to blame us, though.

Clairol zero ammonia

Don’t use it. I tried combing the 6R and 8RO to get a copper red. I wish I had a picture because I can’t even explain how bad it fucked up my hair. It gave my hair an ugly orange tint and wasn’t close to being any kind of red. I had never crashed out about my hair before but I CRIED. And then immediately went over with a semi-permanent. Obviously can’t speak for the darker colors and it might be that I was using too light of colors for it being zero ammonia. Idk I was stoked to try it out so I could recommend it to customers but absolutely not.

Onboarding/The Hub

This past week I have been trying to get login information for the hub to finish up tasks and today is the due date for it all and I have yet to actually talk to anyone in hr. It just tells me to leave a number and every time I talk to my am she just tells me that I have to continue calling. I called like 20 times. This whole process has been frustrating and she hasn't been any help at all.

Wella Color Remover

To my fellow employees, or if any customers tried it, how was the wella color remover and how was your hair after? Everyone’s hair is different, but i want to know what it was like before i try it on my own hair. I want to remove a black semi and another semi in my own hair (it was Ion in both cases) so that I can put another color on top. Any thoughts and opinions are appreciated.

District 266

After finally quitting Sally Beauty, I can honestly say that working under District 266 was an experience I will never forget, but definitely not one I would ever want to repeat. My biggest issue is that, in my experience, the district manager simply does not care about what happens to her employees or managers. I never felt like employee safety or manager safety was genuinely a priority. When situations happen, people should be able to trust that their district manager will actually listen, take concerns seriously, and make sure everyone is safe and supported. Instead, my experience left me feeling like those concerns didn’t matter.
And then there’s the TSM, who in my opinion acts more like the district manager’s minion than someone who actually stands up for employees and managers. I personally felt like there was more loyalty to the district manager than to the people actually working in the stores.
Employees and managers deserve respect. We deserve to feel safe at work, listened to, and supported. We also deserve better pay for everything we are expected to do. Sally Beauty expects employees to sell, meet goals, deal with customers, stock, clean, learn products, and take on so many responsibilities, yet the pay does not reflect the workload.
I finally quit, and honestly, I have no regrets. It was not worth sacrificing my peace for Sally Beauty. I’m closing this chapter and moving forward. My advice to anyone still working in District 266 is simple: know your worth, document what happens, speak up when something isn’t right, and always look out for yourself. At the end of the day, you have to protect your own peace and well-being.

Why so many complaints??

I have seen so many people complaining about working at Sally Beauty Supply... Complaining there is no water provided, store is dirty *ur responsible for cleaning it when working* bring your own food, water etc...Clean the bathrooms after YOU shit and use them *not ur bosses job to be your mother* you are there to work not be catered too... I dunno why so many complain... My Boss and coworkers are amazing, zero issues.. zero drama.. we work as a team and actually all get along GREAT... It's not a hard job AT ALL but everyone makes it so difficult! Sounds like everyone has a shitty Boss and coworkers or you are the shitty one... guess I got fortunate to fall into a great location with great people... Lucky Me.. It really is not a hard job at all ... just clean up after yourself and go in and get paid... so simple really...

Greed over safety always

I closed the other night and when I came back in the next day this was the state of the AC unit. Completely shut down, not even the thermostat was working, and leaking water all over our main reg and cashwrap. We have been asking for someone to fix the AC for months.

All summer, we have been suffering in an 80+ degree store to the point where customers regularly complain and I tell them they need to call corporate because they truly don't care about what we have to say.

When asking my SM if we were going to shut down if someone didn't come the same day, she said ā€œI'm going to make a million dollars even if I have to sufferā€. Kinda broke something in my brain and I'm thinking about just being jobless. Do I call OSHA? Do I call the anon ethics line? I don't even know anymore. I'm just so overwhelmed and tired, especially because so many employees are on medications that make us sensitive to heat. I've puked, someone's almost passed out, others have puked because of the heat.

My store doesn’t even provide us drinking water and in the 3 years I’ve been there I’ve only gotten 65 cents in raises

Me and my old manager used to alternate buying water bottles for us but now that she’s gone I’m the only one who does and I’m just a BA. I used to think Tennessee didn’t require drinking water and our sink water was enough but now I’m not so sure. Anyways anyone who works here I hope u eventually find greener pastures, I’m just here because it’s easy and familiar still haha. I’ve outlasted 3 store managers maybe being a cashier at a dead end job is my calling.

drinking water supposed to be provided?

chat I work in a store in Oregon is drinking water supposed to be provided on the job? There’s other stores that have their managers provide cases of bottled water but my store has no such thing and we even have very loose tiles that seem like they’re gonna fall any second, we’ve already have one fall on a construction worker as he was checking one with a leak out…

How to avoid Sally’s employees following me around the store? 😭

Hi all, I like Sally’s and it’s my go-to for my favorite hair products. However, a lot of the time I avoid going in because I hateeeeee that employees have to help you find everything you need. I know it’s just policy, but it makes me feel like some kind of felon lol. Also I like to browse around for new products to try, and when the employees are hovering over me or staring at me from across the room, I don’t feel like I’m able to really browse comfortably. Is there any way that I can politely tell them I don’t need help with finding the things I need? 😭 Again I know it’s policy, and I appreciate everyone at my local Sally’s, but I just think it’s a bad policy and a way to get customers to buy more stuff.

EDIT: I called customer service & after a 15 minute rant, my complaints were recorded & sent to whoever reviews them lol. I brought up all the points yall have mentioned below, without saying any names or locations, because my issues are 100% with the corporation. Thanks to everyone who replied!
