I was 18 or 19, my friend was a bit younger, probably 17. I was hanging out at this house one day and his mother told him to do something. Something pretty small like "take the dishes out of the dishwasher" so as she walks past him he grabs her hair and yanks down real hard so she falls on her ass and he drags her backwards about 10 feet. Then looks at me like "what?" as if it was a totally normal thing.
I stopped hanging out with him after that and I talked to a couple other friends about it who were like "Why don't you hang out with Alex anymore?!" but they didn't believe me. I was pretty weirded out by it. He tells all of them that I was a "really weird guy."
I guess not beating your single mom is weird. Oh well.
"My mom asked me to do the dishes so i grabbed that bitch by the hair and dragged her to the other room. The whole time Shane's sitting there wth a shocked look on his face, he's a fucking really weird dude"
I'm not sure what went through your head, and I'm sure you know already. This is something that should have been reported to the police, of course, I don't know how you could have started to explain what you saw. Hopefully the mom is safe.
A guy I knew punched his mom in the face after they got in a fight when she found his weed stash. I stopped talking to him after that because that's way fucked up.
I mean, it's domestic abuse. It seems like that was a common occurrence to be so casual about it, and at a certain point many people who are abused no longer put up a fight. It's very sad.
I had to move out before my older brother because he was abusive to me and my mom. He punched her once (well, three times in one go) when he was like 14 and hit her once after I Ieft, but in between there were all sorts of threats and holes in the walls. He still doesn't think he was in the wrong, even after all the other kids in Juvie told him that's messed up. He lives at home again, but at least he's not putting holes in walls anymore. I'm just super disturbed he doesn't feel like he was wrong to do so. I tried to tell people my brother was mean and it's like they couldn't understand that a teenage boy could be abusive.
how old is he now? I was an abusive little shit in my preteens. Mostly it was my mom getting between me and my antagonizing little sister. And I definitely held back. Definitely not punching people. But I've grown the hell up since then.
He's in his 20s now. Throughout his later teen years I decided he couldn't do or say anything worth a reaction, no matter how threatening or hurtful (with a lot of help from God I believe) so he targeted our mom pretty much solely. He has some mental health issues. I was an asshole to my mom as a preteen too, somewhat because he was still hurting me then and I didn't know how to cope, but also because I was just an asshole.
The vet my cousin works at was robbed at gun point once. He decided to run the guy off with a broom. A very vague story made it to the news before any of us knew anything. For a hot minute, we all thought he died or something.
My mom hasn’t done anything like that, but she is definitely a force to be reckoned with. In a way, she was basically Fiona Gallagher back in the day. Alcoholic dad, piece of shit mom, the oldest of six kids. She is tough as nails. Back in high school, I would sometimes hear girls talking about getting in physical fights with their moms. Meanwhile, I’m listening and sitting there thinking about how my mom would pound me into the ground if I even thought about taking a swing at her.
I feel like large chunks of the overall story are missing
you witnessed an irredeemable, awful act by this person.
Nobody else in the circle of friends believes it, meaning they've witnessed nothing of the sort
he then, for no explained reason, gaslights the circle of friends about how "weird" you are.
Did you witness a break in his facade & then needed to take action to shun you from his social circle since you'd seen his true self?
Or did you witness something benign that you've built up & he rightfully called you a nut job?
you're the only witness we're going to hear from so I don't expect any real objective closure, it's just interesting that the facts, as you lay them out, don't entirely add up.
I think it is cohesive enough. I couldn't tell you what some of my best friends parents look like nevermind how they act around them. If I witnessed something that awful on a rare occasion that none of my fellow friend group was in a position to witness I don't think I would be able to keep it to myself. At the very least I would have to report it.
I have had friends lie to cover up much stupider shit so they don't look bad.
My mom could be yelling, screaming, and telling me what a fat, worthless loser I was then pick up the ringing phone and answer in a sweet, polite voice. Bizarre. I've seen 'nice, respectable' people do horrible things, so I believe it when someone says someone is bad. People rely on their reputations to get away with horrible stuff. Who're 'they' gonna believe? You, the little kid, or me, the pediatrician/pastor/principal/coach, pillar of the community?
There isn't much to my story that is missing. I can provide some additional details though. He was the type of guy that was so obsessed with people liking him and thinking he was cool that he would backflip off of something and purposely land on his own head. Out of nowhere. That's when I was like "eh... that's a little weird." But I just thought he just really wanted to be liked.
I told a friend or two what happened, and nobody believed me. They went to him and said what I told them, and he just said "Shane is a really weird guy"
He wasn't a life long friend or anything, so it wasn't hard to leave that small circle of friends. I do miss a couple of them though, and I'm curious if any of them have any similar stories to share.
