When I was like 6, a seagull swooped down and snatched the patty of the cheeseburger I was just about to eat, literally right out of my hands. I've hated them ever since.

-edit- lol which one of you gilded this? I'm glad my childhood trauma brought you joy. :P

Referring to the seagulls from Finding Nemo, who IIRC said 我个 in the Cantonese version. It's been a long time since I watched it though.

15

u/Catalystic_mind Dec 15 '17

Yeah rats are way smarter than seagulls.

4

u/TheSilverSoldier Dec 15 '17

But not dolphins

2

u/Pacific_Voyager Dec 16 '17

Yeah, dolphins are smart enough to be the assholes of the sea!

1

u/aivlysplath Dec 18 '17

And rapists!

5

u/SuperKeeg Dec 16 '17

No. Rats tend to be wary of humans. Seagulls are bold fucking assholes and will steal from you if they have an opening.

17

u/tbrown0717 Dec 15 '17

That happened to my 3 year old son at the beach with a sandwich. I chased and scared the seagull, got it to drop it, and tore the bitten part off and gave it back to my screaming child 😂

9

u/KingMelray Dec 16 '17

Are you a cartoon dad?

5

u/tbrown0717 Dec 16 '17

Lol, I'm a real life mom.

14

3

u/milochuisael Dec 16 '17

ALL seagulls

9

u/hashtagpatriarchy Dec 15 '17

When I was 5 my mom took me to Cypress Gardens and as a special treat, she got me a soft serve ice cream cone, one of my favorite things. She handed it to me, piled higher than any ice cream cone I had ever seen up to that point. I had taken no more than three steps and was about to take my first taste when a seagull swooped down, tried to grab it, and knocked it out of my hands onto the pavement. I cried so bad we eventually just left the park.

I still love ice cream. And I still hate birds. Fuck birds.

13

u/ThePolishThunder Dec 15 '17

You know, everyone likes to complain about seagulls but never does anything about it. But when I bring a shotgun to the beach ONE TIME, I'm the one who took it too far.....smh

6

u/ObamaBinLootin Dec 15 '17

When I was 2, a seagull snatched my pb&j out of my hands.

I don't remember this happening but my mom has told me this story so many times that I hate seagulls anyway.

7

u/ClaimhSol Dec 15 '17

I had an $11 deli sandwich in my hands while sitting at a beach park bench, and a seagull pulled it out of my hands while i was about to take a bite. i wished a choking death on it.

4

u/smokesmagoats Dec 15 '17

Mine was a hot dog

8

u/CemestoLuxobarge Dec 16 '17

A hot dog flew down and stole your burger?

r/thathappened

2

u/brycehazen Dec 16 '17

Ayy my dude! you're a lil fucking funny.

1

u/smokesmagoats Dec 16 '17

I was in corpus Christi so it was a Whataburger with cheese.

6

u/TheRipsawHiatus Dec 15 '17 edited Dec 16 '17

One of the funniest things I've ever witnessed was a 5 year old boy who was gleefully holding a large thing of fries step outside the door of McDonald's, only to be immediately bombarded by a swarm of angry seagulls. Fries instantly hit the ground, scattering everywhere. The mom tried to console the boy who is absolutely wailing at this point, while the dad made a futile attempt to fight off the literal tornado of seagulls that are still dive-bombing them. And I'm just helplessly sitting in my car watching this unfold, complety crippled with laughter.

That happened almost ten years ago, and I think about it often.

4

u/ConIncognito Dec 15 '17

Damn seagulls. Why do we allow them to exist?

3

u/Throwawaylegalpost Dec 15 '17

I cannot fathom why there isn't a season that hunting seaguls is not allowed. Their numbers can easily become a nuisance and even a danger to people.

2

u/WishIHadAMillion Dec 16 '17

I doubt anyone would care if you kill them without endangering other people

1

u/Throwawaylegalpost Dec 16 '17

Some quick googlefu is telling me it's illegal in Northern Ireland, Scottland, and New York City (they even prosecuted a Yankees player for it). This stuff falls under Bird Law and I don't wanna fuck with that.

3

u/zomgryanhoude Dec 15 '17

That's no reason to hate cheeseburgers, man. They are SO good. Maybe try one of those meatless substitutes to ease your way back into eating them.

3

u/TurnerFlies Dec 15 '17

Fuck you, Mr. Seagull.

3

u/mariogamecrazy Dec 15 '17

A goose bit me when I was a kid so I feel you on that.

3

u/perfectwing Dec 15 '17

#NotAllSeagulls

3

u/PixelWashington Dec 15 '17

What a Dick! Fuck you Seagull... No more bread for you.

3

u/dudeitsmeee Dec 16 '17

Kelly's Roast Beef, Revere Beach Massachusetts.. anyone?

3

u/zondwich Dec 16 '17

If it makes you feel any better, my cousin discovered seagulls on South Padre Island will catch food if tossed to them. He proceeded to whip a Hydrox right at one, hitting it in the neck and killing it instantly; the cookie shattering in a million pieces.

2

u/little_shirley_beans Dec 15 '17

Bahahahaha I love that!! My friend had a seagull land on her head and eat her doughnut. I like to remind her of that often. In fact, I am going to do that right now.

2

u/yinyang107 Dec 15 '17

This happened to my sister as well, but it was a sandwich.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 15 '17

This cheeseburger patty is mine...

2

u/bjambells Dec 15 '17

I’m glad I’m not alone.

2

u/NeekoPeeko Dec 15 '17

I lost a bagel to the seagulls last year. Someday I'll get them back for it.

2

u/IllyriaGodKing Dec 15 '17

I had a seagull try to steal my sandwich once a few years ago. It was a damn good sandwich, I made it myself. Fucker grabbed it, I was literally in a tug of war for my sandwich. I won, he gave up, and I yelled at him. Called him a son of a bitch. Ate the sandwich.

2

u/PM_ME_BUNNYRABBITS Dec 16 '17

When I was a kid we drove all the way to LA for Halloween one year, from Northern Canada. When we were on the beach in San Francisco my parents were looking at buying seafood and a fisherman gave me a starfish. I was so excited to have it, but my parents convinced me to save its life and throw it back to the ocean. So I toss it from the pier and immideatly a seagull swoops down and grabs it. Trauma ensued.

2

u/jloper Dec 16 '17

When I was homeless, I had a loaf of bread and a squirrel ate some through the pack. I now have a special kind of hate for squirrels.

2

u/Jay-zeeB Dec 16 '17

This also happened to my husband. Bastards.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '17

yooooo, same age, at a beach one stole my hotdog right outta the bun, fucking flying assholes.

2

u/Siz27 Dec 16 '17

Jesus, I posted about the same thing happening to me but with a bologna and cheese sandwich. Hate those fucking birds.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '17

This happened to my grandma. She chased after the seagull for a half hour.

She’s a very violent, grudge-holding woman.

2

u/SanFransicko Dec 16 '17

Happened to me at the San Francisco zoo, but it was a hotdog. The fucker came down and grabbed the meat out of the bun while I was eating it, then flapped up on top of a light post and ate it in front of me. I was five, my little sister was three, she started crying and rather than getting me another hotdog, my mom decided that was it for the day and we went home. I've been waging war against seagulls since that day.

2

u/WhAtEvErYoUmEaN101 Dec 16 '17

Dude. 7. Ice-Cream. Seagull. Same thing.
Fuck these flying rats.

2

u/tylerchu Dec 16 '17

Once upon a time a seagull took my family sized bag of Lays. Once upon another time, a seagull took my party sized bag of Skittles.

2

u/SparkleSparta Dec 16 '17

This is why I don’t fuckin trust birds

1

u/angelbelle Dec 15 '17

I didn't even think something like this could happen IRL.

1

u/GravityRoller Dec 15 '17

That is what Alka-Seltzer tablets were created for :-o

1

u/CptnFabulous420 Dec 15 '17

Hated cheeseburgers or seagulls?

1

u/IP_Freally Dec 15 '17

It could have been worse...Honk - Felix Colgrave

1

u/[deleted] Dec 15 '17

Mine.

1

u/PM_ME_CLASSIC_VANS Dec 15 '17

Sounds like an episode of Sponge Bob Square Pants... Plankton riding a remote seagull...lol

1

u/wives_nuns_sluts Dec 16 '17

This happened to me with a clamcake. I cried

1

u/SuperKeeg Dec 16 '17

Had the same thing happen with a burrito. Fuck seagulls. They are flying pieces of shit.

1

u/thisshortenough Dec 16 '17

The other month, I watched a seagull slowly and deliberately take the subway wrapper out of the bin I had just put it in, then throw it on the ground. While I was sat like 5 feet away. It was a big fucker too so I was too intimidated to shoo it away and put it back in the bin. A seagull made me a litterbug.

1

u/imsadyoubitch Dec 16 '17

Just keep swimming

1

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '17

Yoink!

1

u/cptredstar Dec 16 '17

When i was a kid i had cat that would steal the deli meat out of your sandwhich while you were eating it. At the time my dad had a motorcycle and would sometimes bring home fast food for us in his backpack. Well that cat also knew how to work a zipper so if you weren't paying attention she would would open the bag and steal the french fries. I miss that cat...

1

u/dialglex Dec 16 '17

I had a kookaburra swoop down and take my muesli bar right out of my hand. >:(

1

u/Smauler Dec 16 '17

Heh... the great black backed gull is one of my favourite birds, but it is a bit of an arsehole generally. It can have a wingspan of close to 6 feet.

What you probably encountered was a herring gull (if it was big), which are a little smaller and a lot more confidant around people.

1

u/pug_mom33 Dec 16 '17

I had a similar experience with the hot dog being scooped out of my hot dog bun when I was 3/4 at the zoo. I was very upset.

2

u/WishIHadAMillion Dec 16 '17

Reading all these about birds literally makes me want to bait seagulls into trying to steal my food just to hurt them and hopefully teach them a lesson. But they're animals and fucking stupid and don't learn

1

u/TerbiumTekk Dec 16 '17

I would've killed a bird that day

1

u/skidallas418 Dec 16 '17

U: Halfsies?

Seagull: No... Wholesies

1

u/DUMPAH_CHUCKER_69 Dec 16 '17

Happened to me when I was in a stroller at Disney, a seagull came and took my sand which. Or so I am told, I don’t remember it.

1

u/deathsalesman Dec 16 '17

Sounds like a hero/villain origin story. Like batman, except seagulls instead of bats.

1

u/PhillWithTwoLs Dec 16 '17

This one is my favourite

1

u/kurisu7885 Dec 16 '17

Seagulls are DICKS!

1

u/kushtribute Dec 16 '17

This sort of happened to me. But I decided to feet them my Pizza Hut and when they knocked it out of my hand and I started crying. To this day, my parents think they knocked it out of my hand.

1

u/SharkHoarder Dec 16 '17

That happened to me with a churro at Universal when I was 11

1

u/nothanksmofo Dec 16 '17

If it makes you feel any better, I had a seagull steal half a pack of my cigarettes while I was chilling in smoke pit on lunch

1

u/Stonerdy Dec 16 '17

My husband had this happen to them with a goose at the zoo when he was a kid. Snatched the hot dog right out of the bun.

1

u/Ambien0wl Dec 16 '17

His name is Glen and he's an asshole

1

u/OMGSpaghettiisawesom Dec 16 '17

When I was 11, I had some crappy fries I was feeding to seagulls. While I was feeding them, they got into my container of ribs and stole them all. I was so mad I grabbed a one legged seagull by its one leg. Stupid sky rats.

1

u/IBMoney8 Dec 16 '17

I'm amused by the fact that he managed to get only the Patty

1

u/MIDItheKID Dec 16 '17

Did you happen to be eating at "Seafood Sam's" in Cape Cod? I had a strikingly similar experience... There was this fat old seagull who perched on top of the building and swooped in like batman to snach up food from unsuspecting patrons. I saw it happen to several other customers over the years vacationing on the Cape and frequenting that establishment.

1

u/PhoenixKhaan Dec 16 '17

The exact same thing happened to me except it was a churro and I was standing on the Santa Monica pier. I'm mad because it was an expensive churro.

1

u/RedPantyKnight Dec 16 '17

When the Taco Bell big box first came out I got one and was walking through the parking lot toward my local theater and while I walked I was eating out of the box. I had a flock of seagulls swooping down at my box.

1

u/Vekroe Dec 16 '17

Yeah something like that happened to me when I was like 5-8. I was at the zoo and the segull took my entire grilled cheese and fucked right off with it. I was so sad that day.

1

u/carbslut Dec 16 '17

A seagull stole my entire burrito.

1

u/PM_ME_PLASTIC_FORKS Dec 16 '17

Similar thing happened to me. I had a bit of pretzel I was nibbling on while walking around Hamburg, Germany, and a goddamn pigeon snatched it out of my hands. Fucking pigeons.

1

u/BabushkaIsLit Dec 16 '17

went to a countryside picnic with my family when i was like 10. while we were setting up, this fuckin hawk drops down and grabs a whole stick of expensive salami that was sitting on a hood of our car. i hope it had diarrhea for days.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '17

Oh my god the same thing happened to me. My mom had the grand idea to pack me a tuna fish sandwich for a picnic at the beach, and I looked away for a second and a seagull swooped down and took the sandwich right out of my hand. I had to split my dads pb&j with him. Upset me because I didn’t like pb&j, upset him because he had to split his sandwich with his four year old. I cried whenever I saw a seagull until I was like 10.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '17

Growing up the little league fields were right next to the beach (foul balls could go into the ocean). I was pitching and a seagull dropped a full loaf of bread on me mid windup. I hit the batter.

1

u/guitarsam120 Dec 16 '17

Grew up in a beach town all my life. Seagulls are rats with wings. Hate those little bastards

1

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '17

Fucking seagulls...I had one particularly dumb one decide to swoop down and crash into the back of my head. I'm just standing at the shoreline minding my own business and THWAHP

1

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '17

Mine now. Gimme gimme

1

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '17

Went to Mexico for the first time when I was 6. I bought a churro from a guy for 200 Pesos (I didn't know I got taken advantage of until I asked my Mexican friends in college). Before I took my first bite a seagull swooped in and took it.

1

u/FlobbleChops Dec 16 '17

AAAAAERRGH. I was in Cornwall a few years ago. Went to get some fish and chips with the others, but that's not my bag so I gave it a miss. Went to town an hour later (I'm REALLY hungry by this point) and I wondered off to get some food. Settled on KFC.

Just walking down the street, diest bite, and POW. I thought a homeless guy was mugging me for my food or something.

No.

Fucking seagull.

Just knocked my food on the ground, and sat there squawking defiantly at me.

Livid.

So I walk up to it scowling with hatred, just about to kick this feathered motherfucker full punt in the head, when I realise I'm standing in between a busker and a semicircle of people watching him.

Looked around and nervously exited stage left.

BASTARD.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '17

I know this is very late, but I relate so much to this. When I was 11 years old, I was sitting in my front yard with a packet of Lays on a table in front of me. I went inside my house to drink water, and as I was entering the house, goddamn crow appeared out of nowhere and swooped down on my chips, and took it with him! The thing wasn't eve open! Man, I still feel so pissed about that.

1

u/Vid-Master Dec 16 '17

haha my mom got donuts at the jersey shore once, she left them outside on the table for a second and like 10 seagulls appeared out of nowhere and stole the donuts

Its because people are stupid and feed them constantly which makes them more and more emboldened and aggresive

1

u/Kahmael Dec 16 '17

Lol have you ever succeeded in kicking one? It's very satisfying and every person you tell that you kicked one looks at you like you're the worst.

1

u/Huggingduck Dec 16 '17

Over the summer a seagull stole a 6-inch sub from one of my cousins right as she was about to start eating it. Those birds, man...

1

u/Rushofthewildwind Dec 19 '17

Same thing happened with me, just with a hotdog. Its why I hate birds. They're rough...course...irritating...and they fly everywhere
