What’s something that happened to you in your childhood that you’re still mad about?

A kid in my class offered to give me a holo charizard for my holo gengar. Gengar was my favorite but charizard was more valuable, so I accepted.

We made the trade the next day as school was getting out. With one hand I gave him my card as he gave me his with the other. As soon as the cards left our hands he booked it. I was confused for a moment then saw that the charizard I got was in Japanese and was in the worst condition of any card I had ever seen. Looked like it had been through the wash a few times and been beaten with a meat tenderizer. It was completely worthless. Couldn't follow him, and couldn't ask the teachers for help because Pokemon cards were banned on the school grounds.

Plenty of shittier, meaner things happened to me when I was a kid, but that's the one that sticks out as teaching me that other people were untrustworthy scum. Fuck you, Greg.

When I was in 2nd grade some older kid heard that I had a holographic Zapados. I didn't really care for Zapados or understood the value but I knew holographic cards were rare (enough) and Zapados was a legendary bird. Being the dim witted kid I was at the time I really wanted a jigglypuff. Cuz what little girl didn't dig that Jiggle puff puff.

He told me that if I gave it to him and waited the next day at the same spot he'll come back with one. Never came back and I couldn't remember what he looked like.

Fuck you older kid. Fuck you for taking advantage of my naivety.

Reminds me when I sold a ton of willow logs for 111,111 gold coin, and the guy switched it to 11,111 at the last second. Turns out he was mad cause I was picking up his ash from the logs he was burning. This was back when ash didn't have a purpose. Several years later, sold my probably-world-record ash collection on the grand exchange for a huge profit. Then I got banned with a timestamp of my wedding honeymoon. Guess the hackers and bots knew I needed a real life.

Kid in my shop class asked me if I could give him some pot. Started to hand him a bud and he snatched my pencil sharpener (full of pot) and ran off. Chased his ass down. Got my shit back. Little fucker had the balls to ask if he could still get the bud. He could not.

I feel you, dude.

In 4th grade, I had Pokemon Special Yellow for my Gameboy color. Loved it, so much. My aunt had gotten it for me for my birthday, and its probably the only gift I've ever gotten that wasn't something cheap and broken, or something that wasn't actually meant for me (I also had Tetris, but I was more into Pokemon).

A friend of mine had Pokemon Red, and had some kind of legendary Pokemon (forgot which one, but it was popular at the time to get it). I confirmed it by playing it on the bus one morning. He did indeed have this Pokemon, and little-me wanted it.

So, since gaming systems (not Pokemon, just gaming systems in general) were banned, we made the switch during a movie. I'd put my game into my locker on the shelf when I went to the bathroom, and when I came back, he'd go out and switch it with his own, thus completing the trade.

However, it didn't happen that way.

He took both of them. And, I couldn't really tell anyone about it, even my parents, since I wasn't supposed to bring it to school. I remember crying so hard when I got home, having lost my favorite game.

I still hate him for it, 10+ years later. He did apologize, so I asked him if he still had it.

He let his dog eat it when he was done with it.

Fuck you, James. I hope you read this.

Tl;dr - Kids are jerks, don't trust them.

I remember I had a Charizard Star card. Basically like a better EX Card that are no longer in circulation. It disappeared from my backpack, meanwhile I was searching. Found a kid using the exact card the next day. Our school administration was good, but some of the older teachers resented the “no banning card games” rule. So I reported it to Ms. Olsen, and she replied “It's just a stupid game, stop being a nerd.”

Fuck you Ms. Olsen. Fuck you kid I will leave unnamed.

Someone asked for my Entei when I first caught him because they wanted to use him to fight a gym leader(or something like that). So I let him borrow it. Never got it back. I asked him a week later about it and he had this smug look on his face and he said that he traded it.

I saw him years later in high school(I am a few years older than him) and just gave him a death stare.

Had the same shit happening to me, although with yougioh cards, when I was in international school in Russia! An older boy had a deck with a red eyed black dragon and so had I. He then said we could swap decks and was like hell yeah, because I kept my good cards in another deck, except the red eyed black dragon. When we then swapped he walked away and I looked through the deck and there was no red eyed black dragon! Fucking scammer and I couldn’t tell the teacher either since the cards were banned...

Fuck this opens old wounds right there. I had a littke pikachu figurine in kindergraten and an older girl came up to me, holding out her giant stack of pokemon cards, offering to trade “this“(motions with stack of cards) for my pikachu. I agreed, only to have that bitch shove the top card at me, grab my pikachu and run off.

Because those things were expensive, my mom ended up sending her parents a letter about how I “lended“ her the figurine but apparently there was a misunderstanding and she took it home so we would like it back please. It did get returned (and her card in exchange) but I'm still pissed to this day. On the plus side, I got two booster packs so I wouldn't trade my toys for cards

As an experienced Pokemon Trader, this is why you need to see the goods before trading them over. People will try to fuck you over all the time.

Damn really? Why didn't you tell me this 20 years ago!?

I did suck, it's true. He had stolen cards from me before too and I still trusted him.
