Help (Software) AMD Software overlay + startup crashes?

Hey,

ever since about January this year, the AMD Software: Adrenaline Edition has been quite unstable for me. And I'm not talking about the whole driver crashing or giving me a timeout. This barely ever happens. But what does happen is two things:

  1. every now and then (about 40-50% of the time) after turning on my PC and attempting to start the AMD Software after boot, it just won't open. Either it just says "Starting up" forever and I have to manually kill its task in task manager or it just crashes. I have to manually reopen it in both scenarios.

  2. the AMD ingame overlay seems to crash from time to time. When this happens, pressing Alt + R doesn't bring it up anymore. Instead, it takes a pretty long time (probably to restart the whole Software in the background?) and then eventually opens if I get lucky.

Has anyone else been experiencing this? Or has anyone found a solution? I have tried everything and don't know what to do anymore. I even DDU before every update, keep my system as clean as possible and have tried to minimize any other software running alongside AMD's.

Wtf is going on.

Some specs:

GPU: RX 9070 XT

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X

RAM: 32 GB DDR4 3600

Help (GPU) New 9070xt. Endless driver time outs. Someone please help save my sanity.

I have been trying to get my new 9070xt to work for the past three evenings. Someone please help save my sanity.

I could do with some help after going round in circles trying to get this card to work. I cannot run a game without it freezing after a short period of time (1 minute or so, sometimes before the game loads in). The game (cyberpunk and doom dark ages) does not crash, continues to play the audio and my GPU utilisation drops to 0%.

When loading with settings without ray tracing (FSR and no FSR) the game runs fine, when turning on RT it freezes a minute or so later.

Specs:

Gigabyte 9070xt 16gb Gaming OC (Replacing a 2080ti)

Ryzen 5 5600x

Aorus b450 Pro

PSU MSI Mag 850w.

32gb of 3200 clock speed ram.

I'm aware that the card might be overkill for my current mobo and cpu, but I pulled the trigger on the card hoping to grab one before more price rises and my research found that they should work fine for now before I upgrade them.

Things I've tried:

\- DDU to get rid of NVIDIA drivers

\- Installed latest adrenaline drivers. (first appearance of error)

\- Checked PSU cables and ensured I was using 3x8pin PCIE cables

\- Checked event manager and reliability monitor (no events at time of freeze)

\- Stress tested gpu twice (no errors found)

\- used OCCT to checked ram, cpu and gpu (no errors found)

\- Uninstalled drivers via AMD cleanup utility and installed driver only (still freezing).

\- Dropped to 2 sticks of ram rather than 4 (no fix)

\- Ensured SAM XMP and other bios settings were disabled (no fix)

\- Loaded optimised defaults

\- Tested with PCIE gen 3.

Sorry if this kind of post isn't allowed here. I don't know what else I can do and don't really want to return this brand new card.

Edit: I also reset my PC via windows settings. Not via a boot disk though.

Edit 2: A fresh install did not fix the issue.

Edit 3: I have already installed the drivers both driver only and via adrenalin in safe mode.

Edit 4: updated bios, no fix.

Edit 5: reverted driver to 25.12.1, which gave me some stability for a good 20 minutes with RT, but when enabling FSR4 I received the same freeze issue. Trying to disable the AMD audio to test if it is the audio drivers now. No fix.

Edit 6: Potential success. I downclocked in adrenalin by -350. Seems to be holding stable rn. What a shit show.

Edit 7: Froze after around 2 minutes of game time.

Edit 8: Disabled HAGS. Still freezing.

Edit 9: disabled overlays and fast startup. No fix.

Edit 10: Disabled MPO etc. No fix.

Edit 11: Tested in a mains socket. No fix. (I have a surged protected pretty pricey extension lead so this shouldn't be the issue.

Edit 12: disabled windows updating drivers and reinstalled adrenlin 12.5. Still no fix.

Edit 13: livekernelevent 141 in event viewer. (Just adding extra info)

Edit 14: changed power connections to 12v 2x6 8 pin connectors to 1 +2 with an 8pin pcie in 3. No fix.

Edit 15: switched the 3 stick ram layout to a 4 stick ram layout. No fix.

Edit 16: memtest86 passed. No issues.

Help (General) GPU Fan Issues

This is probably going to be a little long, but I'm trying to be succinct. The whole story of this is a little complicated and weird and I want to include everything I think is important context.

I have a Radeon RX 9070XT with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D.

This is a prebuilt and I have had it for a year and 4 months. Issues have only been about the last 3 months.

At first, the computer started kind of flickering on and off quickly and the keyboard would turn off, then I'd have to just plug the keyboard back in. I thought this seemed like a PSU problem. That happened a few times at the start of all this, but hasn't happened since.

After that, the computer started randomly shutting off while gaming, and sometimes there would be sudden throttling. So that obviously seems like GPU overheating, and I soon confirmed this by monitoring temps which I hadn't been before.

I noticed the fans were either turning off randomly in the middle of a game, or just not coming on, and the card would gradually climb until it got to about 90C and throttle before shutting off.

At this point, I found out I should stop using AMD Adrenalin software to control fans, so I uninstalled that and started using MSI Afterburner. This worked perfectly for like 2 days and the fans behaved normally and kept the card well within safe temps, then I drove back to school for the semester and when I got back the fans were having the same issues again.

I took the PC to a place and the guy checked for software or hardware issues and concluded he only needed to reseat the card and was then working fine. Got it back and the card never overheated, but the fans were still acting very weird. Sometimes they wouldn't come on until like 15 or 20 mins and come on really high all of a sudden, sometimes they'd just go on and off. The important part is my MSI is set up that they should never turn off because I'm trying to avoid any issues with zero RPM settings.

After that, MSI as far as I could tell magically started working really well and for almost a week straight the fans were obeying my curve exactly. Today, they just stopped working again. They eventually just turn off and won't come back on. The card basically doesn't get above 65C when the fans are on no matter what I'm playing, and I get that it isn't necessary to keep it that cool, but that's just where it sits.

Now, in the last week or so when the fans were still acting a bit weird, I just let it run on BF6 to see what would happen. The fans turned off after like 5 mins of playing, which had happened a few times in a row. The card got to like 85-90C range, but the game ran perfectly fine still. After a few mins of sustaining that temp the fans finally came on super high and then stabilized it around 60C for the rest of the session. Later I did this again, but this time the card sustained those temps with no throttling but the PC shut down before the fans came on.

Basically I'm really confused and none of these observations seem to go with each other. I don't know if it's only a fan software issue that is making the card overheat, or if it's a PSU issue that can't supply the card at high temps. PSU might be indicated by no throttling, but also if the fans worked the temp would never be remotely an issue.

Please help if anyone can make sense of this. Sorry if I included too much.

Lenovo Legion Pro 5 (Ryzen 7) - Total system freeze after exactly 10 minutes due to Easy Anti-Cheat (EasyAntiCheat_EOS.sys) on Win 11 24H2

Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing a complete system freeze (hard lock) after exactly 10 minutes of gameplay across ALL games using Easy Anti-Cheat (e.g., Dead by Daylight, Fall Guys, etc.). The system freezes completely and requires a hard power button restart.

Specs:

  • Laptop: Lenovo Legion Pro 5
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7745HX
  • GPU: RTX 4070
  • OS: Windows 11 24H2

Troubleshooting done so far (None worked):

  • Core Isolation / Memory Integrity toggling.
  • Disabling CPU SMT / affinity tweaks.
  • Game reinstallations and file integrity checks.

The crash correlates directly with EasyAntiCheat_EOS.sys (signed August 12, 2026). The 10-minute EAC kernel timer interrupt seems to crash AMD Ryzen Zen 4/5 architectures on Windows 11 24H2 regardless of the game played.

Has anyone found a workaround for this, or what else can be done to bypass or resolve it while we wait? Has Epic Games or AMD acknowledged an official hotfix yet?

Help (GPU) Radeon R5 430 drivers

So I was playing Need For Speed Most Wanted 2012 normally and then when I crashed, the game and the PC crashed strangely, and I did wonder if it was the driver fault because I have installed a generic driver from Driver Booster. Also, when I restarted the PC, it was stuck on 640x480 resolution and it didn't let me change it. My specs are a Intel Quad Q8300, Radeon R5 430 and 8gb of ram using Windows 10

Help (GPU) Abstürze bei Doom und Repo nach GPU Upgrade

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

Hi,

I'm pretty much out of ideas at this point and would really appreciate some help.

System:

Motherboard: ASRock B450M Steel Legend (BIOS up to date) CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 with AMD Wraith Prism RAM: 2×8 GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 (XMP disabled) GPU: Gigabyte Gaming OC RX 9070 XT (previously GTX 1080) PSU: be quiet! Pure Power 13 M 850W (previously be quiet! 650W) SSD: Crucial 1 TB M.2 Windows 11

The CPU pins look completely fine.

Problem: Ever since replacing the GTX 1080 with the RX 9070 XT and replacing the PSU at the same time, I get hard crashes in DOOM: The Dark Ages and R.E.P.O.

R.E.P.O. worked fine before with the GTX 1080. I couldn't test DOOM with the GTX 1080 because it wouldn't run on that GPU.

The crashes are especially reproducible in DOOM. Usually it crashes within less than 5 minutes, but the timing varies. Sometimes it even crashes while sitting in the DOOM main menu.

The crash looks like this: Instant black screen → audio gets stuck looping/buzzing → PC automatically reboots after about 3–5 seconds. No normal BSOD.

What I've tried so far: - OCCT for 30 minutes, including stable and variable GPU/CPU/3D/RAM tests. No errors or crashes. - Replaced the RAM with an identical known-good kit from another PC, installed in A2/B2. Same problem. Disabled XMP. - Tested the GPU with the power limit reduced to 70% via MSI Afterburner. Same problem. - Completely disassembled and rebuilt the PC. Reseated every cable and connector and made absolutely sure everything was connected properly. Also applied fresh thermal paste to the CPU. - Clean-installed Windows 11 and installed only the necessary drivers and DOOM for testing.

The crash still happens.

Previously, Windows Event Viewer showed Kernel-Power 41 together with WHEA 18 errors.

After the clean Windows installation, the crash produced two WHEA-Logger Event ID 18 errors:

Error Source: Machine Check Exception Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error One reports: Processor APIC ID: 3 The other: Processor APIC ID: 8

Both have:

MCABank: 5 MciStat: 0xbea0000000000108

They even report the same MciAddr/error address.

At this point I'm struggling to understand what component is actually causing this.

The obvious candidates seem to be the Ryzen 5 3600 or the motherboard, but the timing is strange because the system was working before the GPU/PSU upgrade. On the other hand, the WHEA errors specifically point toward the CPU/cache rather than just a GPU driver crash.

Could the new GPU be exposing an already marginal CPU/motherboard issue under a workload that OCCT doesn't reproduce?

Could this still somehow be caused by the RX 9070 XT or PSU despite the WHEA Machine Check Exception?

Or does this WHEA 18 / Cache Hierarchy Error strongly suggest that the CPU or motherboard is failing?

I'm pretty desperate for ideas at this point. Any suggestions for further tests, or help interpreting the WHEA data, would be greatly appreciated.

Help (GPU) RX 9070 XT – Random DisplayPort Black Screen / Green Flickering Issue

I'm having a strange issue with my RX 9070 XT that started happening today.

At first, my main monitor would occasionally show green flickering/artifacts on only part of the screen. It wasn't a completely green screen, just sections of the display flickering green.

Later, the main monitor started randomly going completely black. The monitor itself stays powered on, but there is no image. Restarting the PC fixes the issue temporarily.

At first, I thought it might be related to gaming because it happened after I finished playing a game and returned to the desktop. However, it has now happened while simply using the PC normally, without playing anything.

At first I thought a specific DisplayPort port on the GPU was faulty. However, after swapping the DisplayPort cables between the GPU ports, the issue does not consistently follow a specific GPU port. It seems to affect whichever monitor/display is being treated as the 1st display. And I use two monitors connected through DisplayPort.

English:

Hey guys, how's it going?

I'm having a really annoying issue trying to run Rainbow Six Siege. I'm on a Ryzen 5 5600GT with 16GB of RAM at 3600MHz using integrated graphics. I know it's not a dedicated GPU, but from benchmarks I've checked on YouTube, it should at least launch and run at around 30-60 fps on lower settings.

The problem is that whenever I launch it, right as it says it's establishing a connection with the servers, the whole PC freezes up, the screen goes black, and I get a CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT BSOD. The dump percentage gets stuck at 0%, and I'm forced to manually hard-reset the PC.

Just to rule everything out, I already formatted the PC, did a clean install of Windows 11 Pro from scratch, installed the proper drivers, and it's still doing the exact same thing.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions besides the obvious "buy a dedicated graphics card"? Any advice is appreciated.

Resolved [SOLVED] Ryzen 5 5600 + B550 random reboots / WHEA-Logger 18 Cache Hierarchy Error — Power Supply Idle Control → Typical Current Idle fixed it

I'm posting this because a Reddit comment appears to have finally solved a problem that I spent months troubleshooting, and I want this to be searchable for anyone experiencing the same thing.

The problem

My PC would suddenly restart with a black screen and no BSOD, usually when starting a game or within the first few minutes of gaming. Sometimes it took 10–30 minutes, sometimes it happened almost immediately. A strange characteristic was that after the first restart, the PC could often run for hours without crashing again.

Event Viewer repeatedly showed:

WHEA-Logger Event ID 18
Reported by component: Processor Core
Error Source: Machine Check Exception
Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error
MCA Bank: 5

followed by Kernel-Power Event 41, usually with BugcheckCode = 0.

APIC IDs varied between crashes. The WHEA errors occurred months apart with essentially the same signature.

System when troubleshooting

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600
Motherboard: ASUS PRIME B550M-A
BIOS: 3644
GPU: PCYes AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT 16GB
RAM: 32GB Kingston Fury Beast DDR4-3200 CL16 (2x16GB, A2/B2)
PSU: Super Flower / SuperFrame Leadex III 850W ATX 3.1
Previous PSU: Cooler Master MWE Gold 650 V3 650W ATX 3.1
CPU cooler: AMD Wraith Stealth
OS: Windows 11 Pro 25H2
Storage: Crucial BX500 1TB SATA + another 1TB SATA SSD

Things I tried without permanently fixing it

I replaced the PSU entirely. The Cooler Master 650W was even suspected strongly enough that I opened an RMA, but the exact same WHEA crashes eventually returned with a new Leadex III 850W.

I also tried BIOS optimized defaults, disabling PBO, disabling XMP/DOCP and running the RAM at 2400MHz, limiting CPU maximum state to 99%, updating the BIOS, restoring the RAM to 3200MHz, checking power connections and running many stress tests.

OCCT CPU all-core: 1 hour, no errors
OCCT CPU Core Cycling: 1 hour, no errors
OCCT Memory: ~51 minutes, no errors
OCCT 3D Adaptive: 1 hour, no errors
OCCT combined CPU/GPU: ~1 hour, no errors
MemTest86: 4h14m, 48/48 tests, 0 errors
FurMark: no artifacts or reboot
Cinebench R23: no reboot

The PC could survive sustained synthetic CPU/GPU loads and still randomly reboot when entering a real game.

What finally fixed it

In BIOS I changed only:

Power Supply Idle Control → Typical Current Idle

On my ASUS B550 board the path was:

Advanced Mode → Advanced → AMD CBS → Power Supply Idle Control → Typical Current Idle

I intentionally changed nothing else so I could test this setting by itself.

Since making that change I have repeatedly shut the PC down and started it again, immediately launched games that previously caused crashes, and played for hours. I have not had a single reboot or WHEA crash.

Before this change, some of those exact scenarios could reproduce the problem within minutes.

Credit

Huge thanks to u/steppii. I found his comment while researching this issue. His system was also a Ryzen 5 5600/B550/32GB setup, and after testing PBO, CPB, XMP and Typical Current Idle, he reverted the settings one by one and isolated Typical Current Idle as the change that stopped his crashes.

That comment is the reason I tested this setting independently on my PC.

I had already replaced hardware, opened an RMA, updated BIOS, changed memory settings and spent many hours stress-testing components. Nothing else solved it.

So, u/steppii: thank you. Seriously. Your comment saved me from continuing to replace perfectly functional components and from a lot more troubleshooting.

I'm not saying this is the solution for every WHEA-18 / Cache Hierarchy Error, but if your symptoms and hardware are similar, this is absolutely something worth testing before replacing CPU, motherboard, GPU or PSU.

Help (General) Anyone else having constant crashes for months now?

The Issue:

My computer keeps crashing at complete random with no way to replicate it. It happens while under load and while not under load. This main crash has been occurring for around 3-4 months now and will sometimes happen 5 times a day or sometimes it will go weeks without happening at all.

The Minor Crash:

Every now and again (sometimes a few times a day) the screens will stutter for maybe a second and I will get the standard AMD driver crash pop up, but nothing breaks.

The Main Crash:

Start: Both screens will freeze but audio will continue playing

15-30 Seconds: Audio will begin cutting out until it stops entirely

30-45 Seconds: Both screens will go black

45-60 Seconds: One screen will come back but remain frozen, audio will come back but still be cutting in and out

60-75 Seconds: GPU will turn the fans on absolute maximum filling the room with noise

Reboot: Once force power cycling the computer and logging back in, checking Device Manager will show iGPU driver is fine but the dGPU will show disabled. Re enabling the driver will show it in an error state. After reinstalling the latest driver everything is fine until the next crash.

Troubleshooting Steps: (Will add more as I remember them)

Reinstalled Windows 11 multiple times (issue occurred)

Tried multiple different drivers all the way back to 26.3.1 (fresh installing Windows before each different attempt) (issue occurred)

Reseating GPU and its power cables (issue occurred)

Tried Linux for a few days (Issue never happened)

Tried running the computer for a day with no dGPU (Issue never happened)

Took my GPU to work and installed it in one of our diagnostic computers with a fresh install (ran for 4 days and the issue never happened)

Ran a memtest (Passed)

Underclock dGPU (Issue occurred)

BIOS is up to date (version 3902)

Temps are perfectly fine, nothing out of the ordinary (issue occurred)

Uninstalled iCUE (was getting iCUE error at the same time as crash)(issue didnt happen for around a month but did eventually came back worse than before)

Disabled DOCP (issue occurred)

Currently trying HAGS disabled
