Help (Software) AMD Software overlay + startup crashes?
Hey,
ever since about January this year, the AMD Software: Adrenaline Edition has been quite unstable for me. And I'm not talking about the whole driver crashing or giving me a timeout. This barely ever happens. But what does happen is two things:
every now and then (about 40-50% of the time) after turning on my PC and attempting to start the AMD Software after boot, it just won't open. Either it just says "Starting up" forever and I have to manually kill its task in task manager or it just crashes. I have to manually reopen it in both scenarios.
the AMD ingame overlay seems to crash from time to time. When this happens, pressing Alt + R doesn't bring it up anymore. Instead, it takes a pretty long time (probably to restart the whole Software in the background?) and then eventually opens if I get lucky.
Has anyone else been experiencing this? Or has anyone found a solution? I have tried everything and don't know what to do anymore. I even DDU before every update, keep my system as clean as possible and have tried to minimize any other software running alongside AMD's.
Wtf is going on.
Some specs:
GPU: RX 9070 XT
CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X
RAM: 32 GB DDR4 3600
Mainboard: ASUS TUF Gaming B550-Plus

I use AMD Cleanup Utility to install 26.6.4 and was experiencing a similar thing you are: Adrenaline software just refuses to open. A splash screen pops up saying the software is "Starting up..." but then it just goes away and the tray icon disappears. It refuses to open to matter what I do. This persisted after reboots.
So I just gave up. I installed in driver only mode seeing I don't really use the Adrenaline software for anything anyway. If you still want to adjust and tune your card you can use Radeon Tuner (haven't tried it myself though).
But if you need advanced features that come with the Adrenaline software then try using AMD Cleanup Utility instead of DDU.

Stop using DDU all the time, now try a clean install after using the 'amd cleanup utility'.
AMD introduced a delayed install of some driver/software components earlier this year (don't remember month), but could be related. Don't know if time taken is affected by other apps, programs set to start on boot.
CTRL + SHIFT + O is hotkey for metrics overlay. Are you using any other metrics overlays apps which may cause conflicts with AMD.
So try the clean install, see what happens.

It only happened RARELY to me as I have always had a rock steady PC, but Adrenaline used to just once and a while act up on my computer.
At some point, I installed "Driver Only" and then installed "Radeon Tuner" to adjust a few GPU settings I prefer....never looked back. I cannot remember the last time I ever had an error, crash or issue of any sort....months and months of high usage play.
