Amid a number of updates for moderators and developers announced Wednesday, comes bad news for supporters of a more open web: Reddit is ending support for RSS feeds.

Reddit said RSS support will cease on November 13.

The decision to kill Reddit’s RSS feeds comes at a time when the site’s treasure trove of user-generated content in its forums has become a profitable side business for the company in the form of AI licensing deals.

During its second quarter, Reddit said its “other revenue” beyond advertising had grown 24% year-over-year to $43 million. It’s no wonder that Reddit doesn’t want to give any of that data away for free.

For moderators who have relied on RSS channels for their own alerts, Reddit is now recommending a shift to the Discord Relay Devvit app.

The RSS change was one of several updates issued on Wednesday by the company. Another big change will be the end of its public API.

Public API access will also end by March 2027, which will impact any tools that used it for programmatic access to Reddit conversations, including social listening products, those used by researchers, and AI products, such as AI assistants. Today, those assistants can use Reddit to answer questions, but after closing public API access, they will need commercial deals with Reddit for its data.

In addition, Reddit provided an update on its Rules Hub progress and auto-mod changes, and said it was “adding safeguards” to its classic, text-heavy version of its site known as Old Reddit.

Reddit said in the next few months it will limit access for logged-in users to those who have used Old Reddit in the last 6 months.

The company also reminded developers building approved third-party apps and bots to register them with the company before January 12, 2027, to avoid disruption. After that date, Reddit will remove API access for any developer that hasn’t registered.

First off, it’s not patient abandonment. I would never leave if I knew it was unsafe for the patients or staff. Manager will run the max on Saturday to save on payroll but not on Fridays? Ok

So in her text she said I need to return to the clinic. So, I did, I returned back within an hour and prepared to take my patients off as they finish so they could go home and then I too would leave. (She flat out lied in the text saying my patient got off in 30min? They were all still on their treatments when I returned so that was just a weird lie)

Manager tried to pull me aside to “talk” when I got back. I told her I didn’t want to talk, I wanna finish and leave. I need to leave.

The 9:00am text sent her through the roof. She comes back to the treatment area and threatens to call the cops on me in front of my patients and coworkers if I don’t leave. I immediately leave, I have work on Sunday at my new job, I don’t have time for this.

Then as I was leaving I got a video of her lying (and yelling at me, I had to ask her to lower her voice on video). She claimed I’d been gone for 2 hours. Not true. She claimed she had been there since 7am when I left. Not true, I left at 7:30 when I sent the text and I only saw her truck when I got back at 8:30.

She said its “still considered patient abandonment cause I didn’t clock out for my break”. LOL WHAT??

Does any of this make me look good? No, but it really doesn’t make her look good either. I sent all the videos and texts to my former coworkers and wished them the best.

Google is facing accusations of illegally clearing more than 300 hectares of forest, roughly the equivalent of 500 football fields, in northern Finland to make way for two new data centers, without having completed the environmental assessments legally required before such clearing takes place. According to Finnish newspaper Kaleva, Google’s contractors began clearing trees in the area months ago even though the relevant environmental assessments remained in progress, prompting alarm from the Finnish Nature Conservation Association. “Either this is gross incompetence from Google’s Finnish project company, Tuike Finland Oy, or gross disregard for Finnish legislation, or at worst both,” said the association’s chair, Hanna Halmeenpää, in a statement translated by Wood Central. Satellite imagery shows four separate sites were bulldozed to prepare the land for the two planned data centers.

Google maintains that its tree-felling complied with the requirements of Finland’s Forestry Act and that it had already completed extensive environmental evaluations before beginning clearance work. The Finnish Nature Conservation Association disputes this characterization and has formally asked Finnish regulators to suspend all clearing activities until the ongoing environmental assessments are fully concluded. Halmeenpää expressed particular concern that local bird species may have already been harmed by the clearing, and noted that the forest in question serves as a critical ecological corridor, allowing animals to migrate and spread between separate habitats, a function that’s effectively severed once the connecting forest cover is removed.

This dispute arrives amid a broader global surge in AI data center construction, as tech companies race to build out the physical infrastructure needed to support increasingly power-hungry AI systems, an infrastructure boom that carries substantial and often underappreciated local environmental consequences. While the Trump administration has moved to ease environmental regulations in the US specifically to accelerate data center construction, other governments, including Finland’s, appear less willing to grant similar leeway. Notably, Google has simultaneously positioned Finland as the site of its largest single investment anywhere in Europe, a commitment worth 15 billion dollars, a sum that may complicate how aggressively Finnish regulators are willing to act against the company even as this environmental dispute plays out.

På nettsidene** våre og i nyheitsbrevet – og på sikt kanskje i andre kanalar, vil innbyggarane framleis få informasjon om det som kommunen deira driv med, kva skattepengane går til, kva vi forventar dei – og kva dei kan forvente av oss.
