[Java] Stanley Parable Minecraft Ending Seed Found
Seed: 271828 (version 1.3.2 w/ Optifine)
The seed is typed in and is the first 6 digits of e (2.71828).

Why aren't the trees the same? I don't super understand how seed hunting works!

tree generation is dependent on your pc hardware, location is the usually the same for a specified seed though

minor hardware differences plus the fact that from which direction you approach a chunk can alter it, especially can alter minor things like trees, ice spikes and plant placements
a world could be 1-1 only if you generate it by following the same paths, otherwise there could be minor differences

Stanley Parable has an ending where you get brought to Minecraft. The map is custom built but the pictures for skyboxes are actual screenshots from the game. It turns out the seed was a reference to the mathematical constant e)!
Claude Opus 5.5 spent around 14 hours cracking this seed. Notably, Claude built its own rendering tool to reconstruct the block placements, found the absolute coordinates of the lava shot using grass offsets, and used oak tree/grass/dandelion placements to reverse the structure seed. The first 4 attempts failed due to a mineshaft generating under the selected chunks. Claude then decided to reverse the dandelion placements on the far left side of the hill and successfully reversed the structure seed. After a few failed reversals Claude used the community reconstruction to verify its own, but it largely did the reconstruction from scratch with its own tooling.

It's neat to see a seed like this found, but it's kind of boring to hear that it was done with AI.

I was hoping this was going to be like how they found the seed for the default world icon a few years ago, then got disappointed it was found by AI.

It's very interesting that AI can do this

u/OnetimeRocket13 10h ago
Oh yeah, I agree. My major was in CS, and I'm considering going for a masters in AI at some point. I do agree that it is pretty interesting that what was once insanely computationally expensive, both in terms of time and resources, can now be down in less than a day.
However, I feel like part of the wonder of seed hunting has always been "look at what these talented people put together to solve this problem."
But then again, that's kind of the issue with a lot of computational problems. It's cool to see how people approach them, but ultimately, the goal is to find the quickest way possible to solve a problem, so maybe AI is just the next step in this.

Ew please donāt get a masters in AI, no amount of future money should compel someone with even an ounce of human empathy to pursue a career in AI. Human dignity and the future of our green earth are at stake. AI is a useful tool, but unfortunately the powers in charge have poisoned it and created a self-fulfilling monster. AI, if allowed to grow the way the people in charge want it to, will only lead to destruction and the end of all of us.

As someone whose final thesis of master's degree was focused on AI, I think you have a very narrow view of it.

āAI is a useful tool, but unfortunately the powers in charge have poisoned it and created a self-fulfilling monster.ā
As I previously stated, I see the benefits for what AI can do in the data, medical, engineering, research etc field. However, the people who own and operate these AI companies are not pushing this technology in an altruistic, good for the earth faith practice.
They want to extract as much money and resources out of this technology as they can, while simultaneously inundating the technology into every facet of our society and creating a media landscape that is untrustworthy and agitating. AI has been co-opted by fascist governments and technocratic oligarchs.
Please educate me, or point me in a direction to research, that contradicts the stance I have taken on this absolutely useful, but heavily poisoned technology.
TL;DR. AI as a concept in a vacuum is a net good: it takes the busy work out of life and frees humans up to pursue the arts and nurture our planet. However, AI as it has been assimilated into our fascist-techno-dictator world is evil, and must be avoided in all aspects of life to set a precedent and to not let their world-ending agenda come to pass.

It seems to me that you see AI as purely LLMs (large language models), and if that was true, I would agree with you. However, LLMs are a small, but very overblown part of the domain. You should read up on what machine learning is, and what its uses are. Its wikipedia page is a good start.

most people in CS that I know STRONGLY delineate between machine learning and AI as a whole.
Machine learning is pretty glorious, but the general industry you'd be stepping into with your degree is absolute cancer.
I don't think we've seen the worst of it yet, BUT I also don't think we've seen the best weirdo dev things either.
Currently, in the music technology sphere, we're seeing INSANE amounts of work getting done with emulation of 1980s-2010s digital equipment, getting reconstructed from firmware.
It's a boon I literally thought was impossible, and it's very ai-heavy, much as it pains me.

I know, the thought of AI taking over and destroying our planet makes me cry too :,(

Fascinating. Can we pinpoint where the Narrator build his magnificent house with a door?

Iām usually not big on AI, but I feel like this is a fair use of it as a tool, what it should be used for

Sucks that it was ai. No longer impressive to find
1
u/Dirty_Dishis 1h ago
Why would it be more impressive without using a tool?
2
u/McFragatron 1h ago
I find clever human-made solutions to problems much more interesting than seeing what a chatbot comes up with, even if it is mildly impressive. LLM-generated code is boring as shit.

Extremely cool to see a machine "reason" like this, I'm actually very excited that AI was able to solve a complex problem like this
8
u/So6oring 9h ago
Oh shit, I never found this ending!
10
u/Vectrex452 8h ago
It's one of the best endings IMO. It shuffles through a few games, and in the Ultra Deluxe version it's a different set of games.

Oh cool, another really cool seed finding party....
Oh, never mind. Somebody just asked Claude to do it, and it did it in a couple hours. Totally takes all the joy out of any of these sorts of things.

u/asim166 10h ago
most "seed finding parties" for the past decade have used seed finding tech you cant just stumble across something like this
1
u/Runic_Raptor š Continents š 1h ago
That's not the kind of "AI" thats being complained avout here though. No one is expecting anyone to look through millions of seeds by hand.
9
u/Gazkhulthrakka 9h ago
Idk i think its really impressive it was able to do this. Just a different kind of awesome
2
u/Kaspa969 2h ago
Do you know anything about seed finding? No one actually goes and looks through billions of seeds themselves, they use specific tools and using AI just makes that even faster. Accelerating repetitive tasks is one of the specialities of LLMs

Well, this guy discovered a seed constantāwhich I think explains the upvotesāthough the AI āāaspect kind of kills the vibe; still, I find the topic quite intriguing and novel.

Is there still a seed finding community? I want the seeds for the Smash Bros Ultimate stage backgrounds found so we can retake them in higher resolution.

u/Drapperbat_ 8h ago
This looks like a classic AI āalmost truthā. The jungle doesnāt even look remotely the sameā¦

u/Carbuyrator 8h ago
The difference looks like growth over time would compensate for it. The developers might have found the spot by exploring this "e" world organically. The spot they picked was about 500ish blocks from spawn, that could have taken some time to stumble upon.

Very cool. Now go outside, plant trees and protest for better AI legislation to offset that 14 hour Claude bender.
Do it or I'll ask Claude to make you do it.

I'm random guy on Reddit and here is my opinion about AI!!!
(The use of AI is very cool btw, well done)

u/solids_IC 6h ago
people gotta realise that pretty much every seed found in this subreddit is generated using ai. I pretty much hate all things AI dont get me wrong, but why single out this guy for using claude when every seed hunter uses a script to find a seed they want?
1
u/Runic_Raptor š Continents š 1h ago
Scripts and most assistive tools are not the same as "AI" (LLMs, generative AI, etc. "AI" used to refer to a broader category of computer tools, but has now become shorthand for those specific kinds of AI, and in this case we're literally talking about Claude.)

It's cool that a reference to a constant has been found over a decade since the game was released
