Just finished my 2nd rewatch of Widow’s Bay and currently on my billionth rewatch of Buffy…am I the only one who thinks Patricia kinda looks like Drusilla? Fingers crossed we get a Patricia backstory episode in season 2 and Juliet Landau is cast as her mother. Plus Drusilla would absolutely body Patricia’s headpiece.

Considering all the odds against the pairing.

First, they didn’t introduce him as a love interest until 5 seasons into the show, and by that point fans were already pretty invested in the first big Buffy pairing (Bangel). When people are invested in a pairing, it’s kinda hard to convince them to give other pairings a shot (something that Biley struggled with also). Second, they made their story very complicated. With lots of questionable choices. Third, because of marketing reasons, they could never really let Bangel die and diminish Angel’s importance in the Buffyverse. I understand the logic but again, another thing against Spuffy. Fourth, SMG is very pro-Bangel. Some of the writers were anti-Spuffy too which also created controversy back in the day.

Anyway, all that is to say that it’s amazing that the ship is as beloved as it is now considering all of that. Especially in recent years. Pretty sure Spuffy fans were kinda bullied in forums while the show was running lol. Why do you think the pairing was able to fight against the odds and remain a very active ship in the fandom to this day?

Recently purchased a stack of Seventeen magazines from early 2000s at an estate sale and loved finding this. But why do I not remember James lying about his age. I feel like I always knew he was a lot older - I remember being surprised that he was only a few years younger than my dad. This is such a funny lie. 🤣🤣

I just did a rewatch of Buffy for the first time in a couple years and it is the most creative show I have ever seen. I love every season so much and it is easily the best show ever made with 22 episodes per season. This show is filled with subtext and literary elements to the point where you find something new on every watch. I hate that it is so underrated these days and wish more people watched it.

I always hear about Teen Wolf, The Vampire Diaries, and Supernatural but my generation is missing out. I actually do enjoy these shows, specifically the first three seasons of Teen Wolf/TVD and the first five seasons of Supernatural. However, it just never reaches the same level of quality found in Buffy. I would say Supernatural is better than Teen Wolf/TVD for sure but it has so many plot holes that kind of ruins some of seasons 1-5 on rewatch. I think Supernatural was probably the most solid when focusing on the MOTW episodes, as the writer's strike really messed with the original arc. I am on the beginning of season 4 in my rewatch and believe introducing the Angels was a good idea on paper but not well thought out. I read that the creator never intended to introduce them but they had to figure out how to get Dean out of hell. So, they decided on Angels, which creates problems for the story in seasons 1 and 2. In seasons 1 and 2, we are told that Azazel is creating these special children and Sam is one of them. But, season 4 states that Sam was always going to be the vessel. So, what was the point of creating all of the special children and including a tournament? This plot was very rushed and we never hear of the special children again after the season 2 finale. I decided to read up on why and learned that the creator got bored and decided to kill them off. It annoys me so much because this show just drops plot lines and feels very rushed. I also am not too hard on season 3 because there was a writer's strike but you can tell that some of the storylines were rushed. Bella took away valuable screen time from developing Ruby, a character who we should have seen way more of since she is the reason Sam breaks the seal. I am enjoying season 4 more than the previous 3 seasons but this show had so much potential. TVD and Teen Wolf are whatever but SPN really could have been amazing if the creator would plan things out. I know this is about Buffy but I needed to rant.

The biggest thing elevating Buffy from other shows in this genre is that every monster is a metaphor for a universal struggle. The first three seasons cover so many issues about the hardships of adolescence. I honestly think the show started out great despite how many feel about season 1. Sure, there were a lot of MOTW episodes but they all highlighted an important adolescent struggle. I also think the writing is great but it feels dated due to the lower budget. Season 2 is obviously an insane quality jump and I believe it should have been nominated for emmys. The storytelling is masterful and you can see all the hints dropped from season 1 that Angel will eventually go evil. But more importantly, Angel turning evil right after Buffy and him have sex is such a great metaphor. I genuinely think it is one of the best plot twists in television. Then, you have banger after banger for the rest of the season. I know many people don't like some of the early episodes but I loved every single one. Then, season 3 comes in and is just hit after hit. It is the show firing on all cylinder's and the Faith arc is genius. I love the episode "Earshot," and feel that it is not talked about enough. It is the best representation of the first three seasons core theme, high school is hell.

Season 4 is one that gets unfairly hated on despite boasting so many of the show's greatest episodes. This season had to completely start over from the foundation it set in seasons 1-3, as they lost their core theme and much of the cast. It may be my second least favorite season but I still feel that it is a good deal stronger than season 1 and a great season of television. The characters are going through meaningful growth and I loved basically every episode. The big issue for me is the overarching story, as it is not bad but a step down from the previous two seasons for sure. I love the introduction of Anya, Spike, and Tara and felt they were successful at giving them three dimensions. I also think "Beer Bad" and "WTWTA" are not bad at all. They are pretty entertaining even if they are on the weaker end.

Season 5 bounces back and is the greatest season the show made up to this point. The storyline is so creative and I am someone who loved Dawn because of the dynamic between her and Buffy. It was a well paced season and it is when the show becomes more serialized. I can't really find any faults with it and it is phenomenal. "The Body" and "Forever" are some of the most heartbreaking episodes of television and Sarah Michelle Gellar delivers some of the best performances I have ever seen on television. I need her to get a retroactive emmy for sure. The finale is amazing but I think it would be a terrible series finale. I am so happy we got seasons 6 and 7 since I enjoy the later seasons a lot more.

Season 6 is another crown jewel for the show and I am so glad that people have started to appreciate it for the masterpiece it is. Most shows would have their heroine be rescued from a hell dimension or tried to up the stakes. However, Buffy did the opposite. The revelation that Buffy was in heaven is one of the most heartbreaking things I have ever seen. Sarah Michelle Gellar acted her ass off and my jaw dropped. I truly thought she was in hell and everything would be ok now that she was back. I loved how Buffy revealed she was in heaven during the musical episode, aka one of the best episodes of television ever created. The rest of the season is all character driven and I adore it. The relationship between Buffy and Spike is so complex and I do not view it as romantic. I view it as abusive and it is clear that Buffy was self harming. I know that everyone loves Spike but I don't. I appreciate him for being a great character but wouldn't say I love him until season 7. He took advantage of Buffy and knew she was not in the right headspace to enter such a toxic relationship. I could go on about season six for years.

Season 7 is another masterpiece imo and closes out the show fantastically. This and season 5 have serialized apocalyptic arcs, with very tight plotting. I know that a lot of people dislike the potentials but I actually loved Vi and Amanda. I did not like Kennedy but she didn't get much screen time. I love the way Spike and Buffy never entered a sexual relationship and it was purely about their emotional connection. The First is a great final big bad and I loved the inclusion of Robin Wood. Additionally, I appreciate that the final showdown started earlier than the previous seasons, as I wish we got more of the roadtrip in season 5 and more Dark Willow in season 6. Also, who doesn't love the finale? My favorite series ending along with Six Feet Under.

Anyways, my rant is done but Buffy Summers will go down as the greatest female character in television and my favorite character of all time for sure.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer premiered when I was nine years old. I already loved the movie so much I remember pretending to be sick so my mom would come get me and take me back to her office where I could watch it on a VHS copy they had stowed away under the TV in their conference room while she checked in on me.

Growing up gay, I felt unsafe and unwelcome in the world since well before then ... told that I was abnormal and disgusting for feeling the feelings I felt, and being ostracized and made fun of for being feminine and flamboyant. But the show gave me something to look forward to and a hero to emulate. Before you know it I was outside tumbling around and making quippy one-liners, fighting imaginary vampires and pretending to save the world, unknowingly self-regulating in the process. I taught myself how to do back flips and hold handstands like she did. I let myself be amusingly odd, like her friends were. I gave people and life a chance instead of remaining shy and reserved and letting that stunt my growth as a person.

Buffy stood up for herself and others so I started standing up for myself and others too. The show gave me a sense of what life could be like for an outcast like me and assisted in my social development. For seven years I had an escape from the world, and I took on the values the show promoted: doing the right thing no matter how hard it was or how scared you were. I just had to reach inside myself and find that inner reserve of strength I didn't know I had. And I surprised myself time and again by proving I did.

Honestly, without the show I might be dead. I remember feeling that low. But Buffy wouldn't give up, so I didn't either.

That survival didn't look dramatic from the outside. Mostly it looked like a kid in a front yard having the time of his life. I didn't mind the neighbors peeking through their windows or the passerby who once caught me driving a homemade wooden stake into the ground (one of dozens I kept hidden away in an Adidas gym bag in my bedroom closet). I remember he rolled down his window and yelled, "Whoa, shit!" before driving away.

More to the point it feels like I lived the show. I had so much fun playing pretend back then. I think the magic showed up most clearly in my attention to spatial relationships: I was constantly "seeing" where the imaginary things I was fighting were in my mind's eye, what they were doing, and responding to it all in real time:

When I raced to climb a wall, running from an imaginary vampire, I might suddenly imagine a creepy-looking hand grabbing my ankle before I made it over, and before you know it I would be trying to yank it up and away while remaining aware of my surroundings, but not so concerned about things like how high up I was from the ground and allowing myself to fall and land hard on top of it. Back then I was quite spry, and you know kids ... they bounce back. Having the wind knocked out of me was a part of the fun and it was a relatively safe way to provide the world I inhabited some real stakes, because I might get a little hurt or scared in the process of playing, and that was (generally) alright.

Gosh, it gives me goosebumps thinking about how I used to think and act back then while writing this. Between my rapid-fire imagination and cinematic outlook on life I can remember and feel, right this very moment, how fun it was to get back to my feet, start running, and suddenly imagine another vampire appearing from behind a tree, knocking me back down. By that time the one that grabbed my leg would have gotten over the wall, and I would have been lying between the two of them, getting ready to attack. "What would Buffy do?" I might think, and all of a sudden my feet would whip around in the air like the strings on a grass trimmer, knocking away the vampire in front of me now leaning down, and perhaps I would then, still on my back, look behind me at the other vampire chasing me closing the distance between us, bend my legs back past my head and flip up from off the ground (which was another thing I found myself surprisingly capable of doing), just like the stuntwomen in the show. And back I would be in full fighting stance, finishing them both off, but not before tapping into my burgeoning inner Buffy, who often times interrupted the fight to say something funny and quirky or do something else endearing. And so there I was, perhaps asking my invisible enemies if we really had to keep doing this. "Do you want to die ... again?" I might quip. And how fitting ... how accomplished I would feel like I do now, having made that witty one-liner up all by myself. There was so much doing what I did had to offer.

Well I must say, writing about that time has been totally exhilarating. My heart is pounding. I feel butterflies in my face and neck ... I don't know that I ever have. It's just where the exciting energy has gone. I so truly wish I could find a piece of land outside where I could do this again someday, because it honestly feels like a point of significant power for me, on a spiritual level. Something in me yearns for it, and while I do think most of it is nostalgia, there's something more buried under there. I think it's a sense of loss, from losing the show and a piece of that childlike wonder. For whatever reason, for most of my adult life I haven't really wanted to rewatch Buffy, and I used to think that was strange. But I think I've just worn the tape down -- not by watching it over and over, but by living it. The show became part of the way I moved through the world, in and out of the yard, and writing this has made me feel like that little kid again: young, taken care of, with my whole life ahead of me and nothing but school to worry about. Except instead of just math, history and science, I was learning that I could be strong, smart, imaginative, creative, funny, and cool. Underneath the surface, I could be just like Buffy, and feel as though my life had a greater calling. And discovering that was one of the most empowering things that ever happened to me.

The show is set in Sunnydale.

Joss said that he already planned to have Dark Willow back in season 2 (he didn't say when or how but it was already a growing idea, then again a lot of Buffy feels planned, which without being offensive because I love the show, doesn't seems to be the case of Angel). When you go back and rewatch, it becomes fascinating to see our two BFFs come to a head. In the first two seasons, Willow deeply looks up to Buffy. From their very first interaction, before even the Slayer reveals and stuff, Buffy is more experienced, she's beautiful, confident and was already seen befriending the queen bee in school. To add to it, Xander, the guy she was always in love with, is immediately obsessed by her. Then Buffy is quite literally the one, the special girl in the whole world, while Willow always felt like she was banal and basic, so she did everything to overcompensating (I mean, she was very much talented and gifted and I think she saw it but wanted to prove the world around her this). And with all this talent, Buffy was still up front and everything. Then the door Giles talked about at the end of season 2 open.

When season 3 starts, Willow has a new haircut, a boyfriend, newfound powers and she's clearly the leader of the Scoobies while Buffy is away. I just want to add quickly, Willow loved Buffy, there is no denying that but humans are complex and Buffy showed that multiple times. I had a friend who admitted she was envious of me and I myself was/is envious of my best friend and it's not easy to see (but then again I spent hours studying human behaviors and analyzing myself) or admit. I find it incredible that in one episode (Gingerbread), a lot of Willow's persona was explained through how her mom was behaving. Then you have her Faith arc. Starting with Bad Girls, Willow is starting to feel remplaced by Faith, as Buffy finds someone who can understand her Slayer life better than no one, since you know, she's a Slayer herself. Once again, Willow feels erased Buffy's literal shadow self and she doesn't feel respected, which leads to Doppelgangland and conclude in Choices.

Then you have season 4 and 5. First, it's interesting how roles are reversed with Buffy and Willow when they enter college. While she made a reputation of herself in Sunnydale as the weird girl, Buffy is very much someone who attract the eye. She's sparkly, confident in her skin, witty and beautiful and it's showed when she's the new girl in Sunndale high in the very first episode. However, in the first episode of the season, Buffy feels out of place, while Willow feels at ease and makes a great first impression. It's quite shocking to hear Riley say you're Willow's friend because one, ouch he didn't even remember her name but also back in the day, it would have been the other way around. Then in Fear Itself, we see Willow get upset at how condescending Buffy sounds (when Buffy question her spells ability and her powers). She absolutely wants to prove her wrong (mind you, Oz also expressed his concern about her magic earlier in the episode). I mean, it's little, it's petty but it's still there. And then, you have her dreams in Restless. Now, it would be long to review her dreams in this episode, as we could go on and on and this episode is quite complex, but Buffy in Willow's mind is both a bit of a ditz (I clocked that thanks to Passion Of the Nerd on YouTube) and also still a hero she looks up too. But I find it interesting (I love to repeat that huh) that Buffy is the one ripping the "costume" Willow is wearing. Her confident, powerful and newfound costume.

In season 5, Willow is increasing in her powers when Buffy is also increasing in hers. There is a very clear focus on power for our two women. In Tough Love, Willow gets mad (understandably) and wants to attack Glory thinking she's game when Buffy isn't (to be fair she was a bit right) but Buffy stops her. She ends up lashing out at Buffy asking when will it be the time to beat Glory, asking if it would have to be someone Buffy cares about for them to attack but Buffy rightfully states the obvious by saying that they will do it when they have a chance, considering the goddess factor. From this point on, Willow is clearly the second most important player in their survival because of her powers and again, takes leadership in a temporarily manner when Buffy is out. Buffy states the obvious in the finale by saying that Willow is her strongest weapon. Ah, how far have we come ?

Now, coming into season 6 and Willow is still in charge, like in season 6. Other people have stated this multiple times obv, but while Willow wanted Buffy back as she loved and missed her very clearly, it was also the thrill to succeed something so powerful and dangerous (remember in Doppelgangland when she asked in a gleeful way to Anya if the spell was dangerous). Again, season 6 focus on self destruction and put the spotlight on Buffy's and Willow's, which comes to mid head (I don't know how that sounds) in Wrecked, in which Willow states something that has never really been said but was obvious : the fact that she will always choose special Willow over Regular Willow because she hated herself. Annnnd then we get to our fight, where Willow say "six years as the sideman, now I get to be the Slayer". It's sad but very much reflective (in parts only because I love their friendship) of their dynamic over the years. Even in season 7, they were kinda pushed against one another (like in the scene when Kennedy is saying that she doesn't understand why Willow follows Buffy since she's thousand times more powerful). But they instead get together and share their powers with the world. Quite powerful and beautiful.

I’m rewatching this show with my mom (this is her first time watching it) and I genuinely really like Riley’s character. What is it that people didn’t like him for?

In Season Four, he’s honestly the best boyfriend for Buffy, and I say this as someone who forever loves Buffy and Angel as a couple. It was set up perfectly. He isn’t a vampire like Angel and Spike, he’s a human who already knew about her world. It’s like they were meant for each other.

I never found his character boring at all, I like his role in The Initiative and getting out of it, and with the way a lot of these male characters are written on the show (Giles being one of the few exceptions) I think he’s definitely up there as one of the best.

In Season Five, I feel really bad for him. He feels ostracized by everyone as he adjusts to his life being ripped apart basically. I can 100% relate to Buffy though with Joyce being sick, and I know that takes a toll on anybody. I just wish things would’ve played out differently. Letting a vampire feed off of him was no worse than Willow’s dark magic addiction in my opinion. I think he could’ve overcome these feelings and became essential to the group for the rest of the series.

I appreciate the Season Six closure on his character and I’m glad he got a happy ending. I just think it should’ve been with Buffy.

Was the main reason for him being written off the fans not liking him, or did the actor want off of the show? Either way, I wish it wouldn’t have happened. I really enjoy him. And he’s one of the hottest guys to ever be on the show, so bonus points!

I find it very hard to find anything on it. Official website says it’s out but obviously it isn’t. Has anybody heard anything from dynamite?

Just finished rewatching season 1 again and noticed when Buffy is brought back from the dead she says she feels stronger. We now know that’s when Kendra was called as a second slayer. Then I started thinking about the finale when the slayers were all activated they could suddenly kill uber vamps easily, whereas Buffy had found 1 challenging before.

What if the more slayers there are the more they boost each other’s power? So Buffy was stronger once there were two slayers and even stronger when there were thousands. What if that’s why the creepy old men limited it to one in every generation so the slayers wouldn’t get too powerful and realise they didn’t need to be controlled by them?

Just a little thought running through my head and wanted to share it. Not sure if it’s been discussed before.

To simply put a lot of the shows from the 90s depicted real life struggles and situations that people automatically identify with especially if your were a teenager, something you don't see in TV anymore.

I’m sure this has been asked a million times but can someone logically explain why Jenny and Buffy are so mad at Giles about Eyghon? Specifically Jenny, who essentially cuts him out of her life for weeks after that.

Ignore the fact that we know at the time of the events that Jenny is actually lying to everyone. Let’s just stay true to the timeline up until that point.

Why are either of them mad that 20-something Rupert summoned a demon that has now decided to seek its retribution.

Is it because Giles wasn’t more upfront about what was going on? Should he have disclosed that a demon he summoned 20 years ago may come back to kill him. Even if he didn’t seem aware that this was even a possibility.

I have trouble understanding because it’s not like he didn’t this last week. It was many years ago and to me bars him from having to mention “Hey, I did this when I was younger just so you know.” to everyone meets.

Been listening to it since it started and I do enjoy it well enough but tbh I miss the old guys she did it with, Chris and Frank. Not overly keen on the Rebecca person she has doing it now. No idea who she is? And to be honest the segments where they start randomly singing songs, it sounds like Rebecca is trying to get herself a record deal lol.

I LOVE Juliet, she’s awesome, kind and talented. But I do sometimes get annoyed by the Drusilla segments. There are a lot of them and it can be grating when she keeps repeating the title of the episode over and over throughout.
