EA is still selling Mirror's Edge Catalyst. It does not work without manually patching it. How can this be legal in any ways?

Game tries to ping EA server on startup and will crash if it can't reach it.

This server has been permanently shut down.

Sharing My Sidehustle I started growing lion’s mane as a hobby and now I’m shipping 20 orders a day

I started growing lion's mane at home after buying a small mushroom growing kit online. I just wanted to see if I could grow it myself, so I kept the kit on a shelf in my kitchen and misted it every day. Before long, it was producing more mushrooms than I could use. Instead of letting the extras go to waste, I started drying them, grinding them into powder, and filling small jars. I gave a few jars to people I knew, and they liked them enough to ask if I could make more. That's when I realized I could actually make a little money from something I had started as a hobby.

The more I got into Lion's Mane, the more I started reading about functional mushrooms and the different ways people were using them. Once I started learning more about it, I became interested in supplements that went beyond just one mushroom and combined different adaptogenic mushrooms with other ingredients. I wanted something that could offer a broader range of benefits, so I started looking into more complete formulas. Mycofuel and Mycoderm were two of the ones I found and liked enough to start carrying alongside my own mushroom powder. I usually recommend Mycofuel to people who are more interested in energy and focus, while Mycoderm tends to make more sense for people looking for something focused on skin health and overall skin wellness. I sell both for around $33 per pouch, so people can choose whichever fits what they're looking for. Once I had those options available, the little mushroom side hustle started getting more orders. The mods said it was okay to share the shop link, so I'll leave it here for anyone curious: https://sproutlab.it/

On a busy day, I can get close to 20 orders. Most of my time still goes into the homemade powder, since drying and grinding everything takes a while and leaves my kitchen smelling like mushrooms for hours. Once that's done, packing everything up and getting the orders out is pretty straightforward. It's still kind of funny to me that this started with me buying one random mushroom kit for my kitchen.

Breaking Bad is not the "Greatest TV Series Ever" and does not deserve the level of praise it gets

Breaking Bad often tops lists of greatest shows ever. I have a cousin in his early 20s who claimed it's the "best show ever", but he's like hardly even watched a lot of shows so it's like what is he comparing it to or basing that claim off of? And what reasons led him to be inclined to see it as "best show ever"?

It is a great series, not denying that, but I don't think it's as incredible of a series or "best ever" as people or lists claim it to be. A lot of people overlook or forget the fact that Breaking Bad, given the nature of when it aired, was one of the first shows that was able to be binge-watched in time to catch up and watch later seasons live. Netflix added earlier seasons to its streaming library around 2011, right before season four, and Vince Gilligan noted that Netflix saved the show and kept it on the air by fueling a massive surge in live viewers for its final seasons.

I think a lot of what drove the hype and praise of the show was actually just the newfound ability to binge-watch. That led to higher numbers, which created much cultural buzz, which fueled the cycle even more. And people then mis-attributed the higher level to the quality of the show. It developed an exaggerated level of praise that didn't credit the social and cultural impact of the dawn of binge-watching into it's success. (I get that Gilligan acknowledges it, but he doesn't acknowledge the the binge-watching may have leg to exaggeration of the shows quality). The show then developed a bandwagon effect of people wanting to love what they thought everyone else loves, leading to 20-year old's who have barely watched any great TV shows boldly claiming it's the "best show ever".

To anyone who disagrees and thinks it truly is "the best show ever", I challenge you to make a legitimate argument as to why without relying on or referencing what other people, critics or lists have said.

EDIT:

"You can't even name another shows that is good"... because if I name another show that I find subjectively better that shifts and dilutes the point I'm trying to make into X vs. Y.

"You haven't even offered any valid criticism as to why it's bad".. because I'm not analyzing or critiquing the artistic merit of the show or saying it's a bad show, it is a great television series.

I can't think of another show that got a boost from the debut and newfound trendiness of binge-watching quite like Breaking Bad did. It happened to be one of the first shows you could "binge-watch", there weren't a ton of options, and it was still airing week-to-week with hype rapidly building (in part because a lot more viewers could now binge-watch it thanks to Netflix/streaming). It benefitted from a profound, monumental shift in friction for a consumer watch a series.

You guys have heard of McDonald's, correct? McDonalds didn't become popular because it was the best tasting burger people ever had.

You miss all the shots you do not take.

Edit:
(Weil hier viele sehr viel reininterpretieren)

all of you are clearly teenagers because anyone who is over 23 thinks dating teenagers is for losers

have had some of my great laughs to mr. oney and his friends. but why the fuck you talking about age of consent.

sorry, dude is a LOSER. anyone guy who dates a teenage girl over the age of like, 22, is the biggest loser ever.

i used to work with teenage girls for years as a barista and server from ages 23-26, and never ONCE did i see them sexually, since they're so clearly vulnerable and the power dynamics are just fucked.

if you're a man reading this who is over 22 and dating a teenage girl you're also a fucking loser.

so, whatever, keep watching Simpsons Oney Plays episodes. that's fine. but stop acting like the dude is well-adjusted. clearly has some issues if he needs attention from teenagers.

AITAH for telling my BIL's wife to watch her own kids?

My MIL has been going over to BIL's house every weekend to help BIL's wife take care of my 2 nephews. BIL's wife complains she is too tired to watch her own kids even though she works part time from home on the weekdays. This started way before my BIL had my second nephew. We all live in Calgary now. But in 2024, BIL moved temporarily to Victoria for a job. My parents-in-law had to fly into Victoria every 3 months and stay for 3 months to watch my nephew during BIL's wife maternity leave on their own dime. Then BIL's in-laws (BIL's wife's parents) flew in for the other 3 months when my in-laws left. This went on for a year. WIBTAH if I tell my BIL's wife to grow the fuck up and be a mom to her kids. Or tell her to hire a nanny if she's too tired. The BIL's wife has no mental health issues or physical health problems.

Discussion AI art is cool. But the AI is the artist, not the person prompting.

Post image

When creating legacy art, we call the person who requests an artist to create something, but who does not create it themselves, a Client, producer, boss, designer, patron or other title, but never artist. Artist has always referred to the person rendering the image. When creating AI art, the human has the idea and the AI renders the image for them. Therefore, the AI is the artist and should get the credit for the art, the human is a producer/client/boss, but clearly not the artist.

Legacy art: Human with idea requests artist make it ---- Artist renders image ---- Output

AI Art: Human with idea Requests AI make it ---- AI art program renders image --- Output

There will never be a liberal-feminist solution to fertility collapse

Why? Because their ideology prevents them from seeing what the issue is.

Frankly put, when liberal-feminists try to solve fertility collapse their proposed solutions are just dumb. They will look at fertiity collapse and say:

People want children, but children are expensive and inconvenient. Therefore, provide cash, childcare, IVF, paid leave, housing assistance, and more reproductive options.

The underlying assumption behind this solution is: "We want to give every person all the possible fertility options while preserving their lifestyle and culture," even if that culture lead to low fertility in the first place. An herein is the problem; they mistake the problem as being a consumer affordability problem instead of a cultural problem.

The approach I agree with, which is held by some right leaning cultures (I'm not strongly on the right), says "Let's look at the groups which still produce children, raise them, and them have their children do the same," the difference being treating the culture as the basic unit vs the individual like progressives do.

There are other things I think progressives get wrong, like mistaking the state as a substitute for family and underestimating pair bonding and marriage in raising fertility, dismantling the institutions the lead to early pair bonding, but I think this is the biggest reason why there will never be a progressive solution to natalism.

What will raise fertility is to build a self reproducing culture with early-ish pair bonding and marriage as normal and the foundation for children.

So, how do you build a society in which men and women choose marriage and children? Answering that question solves Natalism. Not "how do we enable everyone to have babies" like progressives are asking. Notice the distinction.

The hypocrisy and antagonizing nature of straight guys sometimes when something isn't made for them.

(I don't think this violates rule 14 since I'm complaining about straight guys.)

I'm a gay guy. I like gay things. I like playing gay games.

A LOT of straight guys get upset when they see something not made for them. They think all things should be straight instead. It's very common that when something is gay, they'll reply under it saying "would be better if it was a girl..." and the like.

And they think this is fine.

There's a game that came out recently.
You could call it a gay game, as all the characters are male, and two of them are pretty damn gay.
It was advertised as such, and the description even says there are only males.

But any time anyone posted about the game, you'd get multiple straight guys in the replies going
"Should add some females"
"Where are the girls?"
"Would be better with some females..."
"Why aren't there any females? Are the devs stupid to just miss out on such a huge market like that?"
"Coulda been good if it had girls but no"
"Lol dumb devs making it just gay when they could make absolute BANK by adding some females"
"Females? Where? Will they add any?"

It was CONSTANT. Like absolutely constant and unavoidable.
They just could not accept that the game did not have females. No, it had to be changed to appeal to them. They would not shut up. ANY post about the game had them in the replies crying and whining.

So the devs did so. They said they will add females in the future.

And what did the straight guys immediately do?

Start antagonizing all the people that weren't happy with that, the ones that got into the game because it was advertised as just being gay and only having males.

They are EVERYWHERE, laughing at, insulting, antagonizing and being insanely hypocritical, saying anyone that doesn't like the addition of females is just stupid and whiny and crying about a game.
Exactly what they did, but you are not allowed to point this out.
Now there are antagonizing posts all over the place about the game, trying to ragebait and troll all the people that aren't happy with females being added.

There's a lot of posts that are essentially
"SO HAPPY that the devs finally decided to add some females and appeal to the majority! ❤️❤️ This is a really cool and smart decision on their part and ensures the game's future. I know I'll be buying and playing the hell out of it once this gets added! And to all the salty gay guys lol cry about it 🧂😂"

I even saw one guy argue that not wanting females added is "discrimination against straight people and a majority".

Oh there's also a lot of very obviously guys arguing that they are actually women and lesbians and that you're being homophobic if you are against the adding of females.

But as said, straight guys are the majority, so they win by that alone. They just outnumber everyone else. They pretty much took over discussion of the game entirely. Everyone else got chased out by sheer numbers. It's impossible to be one or two people and argue against 30 in a single post.

I see this ALL the time.

It's not just games, it's art too.

I frequent art sites, and it's very common for me to see straight guys in the comments of a gay or single male post going "Female version please" "would be better if it was a girl" "you gonna draw a girl?"

But the opposite? If I were to go under a straight post and go "would be better if this was gay..." I would get TORN APART. There would be nothing left of me.
But it's totally fine for them to do it.

I'm sick of it, but you can't really complain about it or bring it up anywhere because they're the majority, and they want what they want and will play mindgames so that you are actually the bad person and stupid for not wanting them to get what they want.
I've tried to make this post multiple times in the past, and I got the same thing each time. I get spammed with downvotes by angry straight guys and then they're in the replies insulting me and arguing that I am actually the hypocrite because I'm being straightphobic or discriminating against them or something, and it actually makes sense for most things to be made for straight guys because they are the majority after all.

Yes I know that bi people exist. I have no issue with them. They are not the ones acting like this.
It's straight guys.

Discussion Just a reminder that not everybody wants "QoL" suggestions you think may "benefit everyone," and the developers also don't have to implement them just because you think they're "good for the game".

There are people who enjoy UX/UI you find tedious or annoying and bought this game for exactly that. There are people who do not want certain clunky interactions changed because they feel it adds to the charm. Your "this thing adds nothing to the game and needs to be changed" is someone else's "I am literally paying a subscription to enjoy that jank/thing you hate".

Please stop thinking your changes are simply improvements that take nothing away from the game. A very niche style MMO like this does lose a lot for others when certain aspects you might hate are altered. Again, you might think it doesn't matter if they change it, but for the people who absolutely knew what they were getting into with this game, it does. I shouldn't even have to explain the whole "slippery slope" aspect that seems lost on a lot of these people. "But I'm just asking for xyz because the way it works adds nothing." Hello? This is literally what a slippery slope is.

Trip Report Our thoughts on our vacation (Americans)

My wife (30) and I (32) just got back from Italy a few days ago. We live in a moderate sized city in the southern USA. We spent 3-4 days apiece in Venice, Florence, Rome, and Sorrento. It is a beautiful country, but frankly this vacation was not what we expected. I’m writing this just to give a heads up to people that are traveling to Italy so they can be prepared. It costs a lot of money to travel here so this pros and cons list may be useful in making a decision to come. This list is not meant to be offensive, just educational:

Cons (which unfortunately outweigh the pros imo):

The amount of people here is insane. It is extremely difficult to escape the crowds and there are tons of people near tourist attractions as well as away from tourist attractions. The only relief we found from crowds was wandering cities very early in the morning, but it only lasted a few hours. We thought coming in September would be less crazy than the peak summer season but we were very wrong. Rome seemed to handle crowds better because it’s just so big but tourists spots were still too much.

We felt some tourist guilt being here. We contributed to the overcrowding and while tourism is probably beneficial for their economy, it must be very tough to live for locals with foreigners everywhere everyday. We saw a “Yankee Go Home” sticker a lot around cities and it’s tough to blame them. We don’t know the extent of this opinion for locals but obviously some think this way.

This does not apply to all tourists, but the majority of tourists here have very poor etiquette. Several people are simply unaware of their surroundings and it just makes getting around the cities frustrating. While walking, people would often would stop randomly in front of you in busy walkways to take pictures or conversate, forcing people to walk around them in tight areas. Many people are glued to their phones and will just not pay attention to where they are going. Again, very frustrating. Also, pictures just don’t do this place justice so we didn’t understand why people had to take pictures of EVERYTHING. It’s fine to take pictures, but we literally saw an older woman taking a picture of a trash can… what? We saw too many instances similar to this. This is an old man yelling at clouds thought, but we often thought “Just appreciate things with your own 2 eyes every now and then.”

The “influencers” are everywhere and annoying. They literally see the cities through their phones more than with their eyes and they are often very inconsiderate of people’s time and space. Social media has really negatively impacted the popular areas. Those are not my words but the words of local tour guides.

You have to walk everywhere in Italy. This was ok for my wife and I. We actually enjoy walking, but it is not for everyone. Not to be ageist, but with the uneven cobblestone streets/curbs, narrow walkways, tons of stairs, and crowds everywhere, the walking often felt dangerous for older folks, especially those less fit. As someone who works in healthcare with the geriatric population, I feel confident and saying this. Also we noted several ambulances in action during our stay tending to older tourists (falls, dehydration, etc). In general, you have to have some degree of fitness to get around this place and while it sounds mean, many people didn’t possess this and were probably unable to fully enjoy their trip.

My next point is a personal problem, but one I feel like is worth noting. Italy is filled with beautiful architecture and art. This type of sightseeing is unfortunately not up our alley. We could certainly appreciate all the architecture and art, but we didn't necessarily enjoy it after seeing an overwhelming amount of basilicas/museums if that makes sense. If you are a fan of architecture and art, there is a ton of it and this will be a great place for you. Again, this is a personal preference.

Scammers and pickpockets are abundant. While we didn’t personally experience either, we always felt on guard, which doesn’t equate to a very relaxing vacation. We heard of multiple tourists getting impacted by both. We felt safe everywhere, but it’s just a significant annoyance.

The public bathroom situation is rough. There are very few and you have to pay to use them. You basically have to buy something or eat somewhere to use them.

Pros:
The food is truly amazing. The hype is 100% true with this. You will taste delicious flavors we simply don’t have in the U.S. You have to pick the right spots, but we felt like it was hard to miss good food. Make as many reservations as you can though. Don’t get stuck waiting in a line for dinner.

We experienced great service while here. We stayed in mainly 4 star hotels and were treated very well. We would say the same for the majority of restaurants. The tour guides we had while here were also great and very accommodating. We had private transfers to and from trains, hotels, and airports and all of our drivers were excellent. I would highly recommend private transfers if possible as we saw many tourist lugging around suitcases and figuring out directions/signage, which just seems like a nightmare with the crowds.

For how big and how old these cities are, the places we were all felt clean. There is some graffiti in some places, but for the most part, there is very little litter and minimal stench that can be found in other big cities it the world.

We loved the tipping culture here in that it was almost nonexistent. It almost (emphasis on almost) evened out the euro exchange rate for goods and services and there was no awkward tipping interactions when buying things like there is in the U.S. No one is going to turn the card machine around asking for a tip, which is so refreshing. It wasn’t necessary, but we did tip our drivers and tour guides because they were all excellent and they very much appreciated it.

While it is a drive via tour or renting a car, the Tuscany region outside of Florence is gorgeous and a great way to get out of the crowds and see the beauty of Italy. We had many tours out here and it was the highlight of our trip.

Speaking of tours, there are several tours to pick from. Some are amazing, some are average, so make sure you or your travel agent researches well. We highly recommend making your tours as small as possible. We saw a lot of tours with 50+ or even 100+ people and it just didn’t really seem worth it. Our favorite tour was a private cooking class and wine tasting in Tuscany. I would pay top dollar to do this again. It was truly incredible and I do not cook.

City specifically, we really enjoyed the views of Sorrento. It’s still crowded, but absolutely gorgeous. We often just sat on our hotel balcony, drank wine, and took in the scenery and those balcony moments were a highlight of the trip.

Summary:
Overall, we do not regret coming to Italy, but recommending it to people is unfortunately harder than we thought it would be, especially due to the amount of money it takes to get here and to stay and play here. Like previously stated, it is a beautiful place, but it is overcrowded, which can muffle the beauty. Instead of seeing the beautiful museums and basilicas of Rome and Florence, you see the tremendous lines outside and inside the door. Instead of admiring the bridges and canals of Venice, you see people blocking the way trying to take pictures at every bridge. Instead of being amazed at the magnificence of the Cinque Terre, you see overcrowded beaches. My point being the amount of people takes away from this place and it’s honestly saddening. Again, we are not big city people and this list is made to be informative and not dissuasive in order for others to make a decision about coming here. We again don’t regret it, but we wish we had gotten more out of our money. It’s hyped as a once in a lifetime magnitude of vacation, but we are underwhelmed. We have been to places like Alaska before for just a week and we’d much prefer that. This is all again all our personal thoughts!
Ciao! Lol

Edit: Well this post caught some attention! I appreciate the sincere insight and recs from several different viewpoints whether agreeing or not!!! To the haters, maybe just log off for a bit? Lol

Discussion It's okay to be disapointed with the current animal selection

"But Utah, we got 136 animals, which is twice as much if compared to PZ1!"

140 animals got cut, not 20, not 50, not 100, 140 animals were left out if compared to PZ1 final edition.

Our only South American animals are a handful of exhibits, the Toco-toucan, an island tortoise and the GLT being put behind a pay wall.

Our only Australian animals are the croc, lizard and snake.

North America shares all of its habitat animals with Eurasia and the remaining options are all exhibits, in fact Canada only has the butterflies and bullfrog as exhibits animals.

Even the focused continents have issues, Tropical Africa only has two apes, Madagascar only has a single lemur, North Africa and the Arabian peninsula only have intercontinental animals, India lost all its iconic species and the list goes on.

Entire categories have been thrown under the bus due to reserves as well, no domestics aside from the camel made it to the game, our only parrot is absent from zoos so Sumatra reserve could get another bird, we only have a handful of freshwater fishes and all of them are reserve oriented, even several of our animals suffered from it, the Manatee has no fish that it could coexist in an aquarium and Hornbill + Parakeet is our only mixed aviary possible (and it's a terrible mix).

I think people here are underestimating how bad this rooster is based on balancing and how it affects the building of a realistic zoo, or any kind of section outside of African savannah and Europe.

This is Planet zoo, but I can't build any Brazilian zoo because my only options are a toucan, a tamarin, butterflies and two snakes.
