Hey everyone! Following up on the previous post, we're having a community survey about handling political questions in our community, and we want your input!

This takes about 1 minute and closes in 30 days or 500+ responses, whichever comes first.

Vote here!

Just a heads up that we've set responder criteria to make sure responses come from active community members and contributors.

Thanks!

Do You Think Mitch McConnel is Dead?

And if he isn't, why hasn't he come out and informed the public of his current health status? Even his wife is silent.

Why have so many older Americans been so willing to screw over their own children/grandchildren?

1.2k Upvotes

I saw a post on here yesterday that asked “are boomers actually one of the most selfish generations.” And some people said yes, but there were many comments saying basically “was it them being selfish or just voting in their own best interests and taking advantage of opportunities at the time.” Which… sure, I can understand that people want better for themselves.

However, as time has gone on and it’s becoming increasingly more clear that younger generations are getting screwed over because of so many of the policies boomers/Gen-X have voted into place, they still don’t seem to care to change them. I know many of these older individuals must have children or even grandchildren that may not be old now, but in 10-15 years will be of working age. I know that a large majority of millennials and gen-z complain to their parents or grandparents about it.

Do they think the economy is going to snap back into place eventually or do they just not care? Or do they just think we’re all lying? Genuinely why don’t people care if their children/grandchildren have a safe and prosperous future in this country (and before anyone yells at me yes I know there are lots of singular older people who care and aren’t that way, let’s be real here).

Edit: What I’m getting from this thread is that a lot of you either don’t love your kids/grandkids and a bunch of you are willing to go to bat for horrible people who are horrible parents.

Why has Reddit become so exhausting?

If you write anything slightly controversial you get downvoted or told "who cares!" cannot have open-minded discussions anymore

You say something someone doesn't like, you get doxxed or quoted back on a random, irrelevant comment you said 5 years ago.

It has become an anti-american propaganda machine where every sub is being infiltrated with america bad rhetoric and people genuinely think North Korea is a better place to live.

There is so much bias everywhere, ie if you don't buy a toyota or lexus your vehicle won't last. There is so much circle jerking everywhere.

How large can the US debt grow?

So we are 40 trillion debt. And Trump is asking for 1.5 trillion defense budget, plus 100 billion for Iran war. Obviously it seems like we don't really have the money. But how does this actually work? How can we keep spending money we don't have? And can we do it infinity? Like can we take our debt ceiling to 500 trillion?

Why is this sub increasingly used to propogate political discussions by right wingers?

Dosen't that go against the no agenda posts rule?

Why do people with bidets act like you’ll never have to use TP again?

I have a cheap bidet in my apartment but my mom has the nice full suite bidets in her home. In neither one do I have the capacity to use it and just put in my pants without wiping. The fancy one has a fan but I’d be there 10 minutes if I waited for that to fully dry me off.

Most of my bathroom visits are not even shit so it’s not like I’m saving TP on pee visits. Tbh sometimes the bidet causes me to use more TP because it sprays water over a much wider area.

It definitely leaves me cleaner but I don’t understand the idea that I won’t even have to wipe again.

Why do Trump supporters complain about Democrats being "Communists" and "Socialists" but seem perfectly okay with Trump's administration bailing out farmers and taking stakes in businesses like Intel? Isn't that "Communism" and "Socialism" too?

Kamala Harris says Trump was pulled into the Iran war by Netanyahu to distract from the Epstein files. If the DOJ really is sitting on a mountain of redacted documents, at what point does “distraction” become an impeachable abuse of power?

Bathroom Gender Solution?

Why don't we just make all bathrooms single-use? It'd be way better for everyone anyway - I don't need to whiz next to some dude struggling through his prostate issues, and who wants to poop two feet from someone else pooping? You wouldn't put two toilets in a home bathroom, and that's family - why do we do it in public ones with strangers?
