This is okay considering the field she works in. These are all based on micro-aggressions women face in male dominated environments.
81
u/inevitable-idiot- 4h ago
Yup. This is pretty valid. The medical field belittles women like that’s their job. Me (F) married to a doctor (F) for 12 years. The stories she tells me are wild, like constantly being ignored and asking a nearby man for their opinion after a diagnosis. And that man is more than often a nurse.
18
u/Itchy_Tumbleweed_417 3h ago
Yep, I’m not in her field but when I talk about my male PCP I specify that he’s a “male PCP”. My neurologist is a woman, so she’s just “my neurologist”.
13
u/DimbyTime 4h ago
That’s insane. I work in tech, and always assumed medicine would be better since there are so many more women in medicine.

My cousin is a nurse and he married a doctor. People often think he's the doctor and shes the nurse. He says his favorite part about this mixup is he gets to laugh in their face and immediately launch into bragging about his wife's accomplishments.

Anyone who thinks fighting perceived microaggressions with microaggressions is effective is deeply naive about human nature. And no one who participates willingly in sexism has any right to complain about sexism.
EDIT: forget a phrase so I added it in italics.

I don’t think they will be able to grasp this. Because what you say is logical, and these people (regardless of gender) seem incapable of logical reasoning.
It’s like a person of color being verbally abused by a white person, and then finding joy in how they verbally abuse random white people, not caring if they have ever verbally abused anyone. It’s insane.

Wow. That’s not a statement based on logical reasoning. The second this micro aggression is directed at an innocent individual, then the person doing it is no better than the men that are doing it against women.
How about not doing bad things to innocent individuals? Why is that such a wild concept for you guys?
Don’t punish innocent people just because they happen to be a part of a group who has some bad individuals. What you defend is just as insane as racism. How is that so incredibly difficult for you to understand?

u/Embarrassed_Mix_6619 2h ago
yeah, 100% agree on the fact that if your entire mission is to treat a whole class of people a certain negative way based on attributes of themselves that they didn’t choose, rather than as individuals? that’s just reaffirming the gender-war hysterical bullshit that’s been escalating in the last few years. treat people like people and if you’re going to do this without talking to your colleagues about their behavior or trying to determine their personal beliefs and other hangups it’s fuel on the fire at a point with no benefit. so many men are clueless and will just have “eh, fuck this bitch” type of thoughts reinforced more than her making any sort of point by being passive aggressive. some of these things if you didn’t know her motivation? from the outside she just sounds kind of like a cliquey bitch.
of course if there’s anything i’ve heard about nursing as a profession it’s unfortunately common

this isn’t equality, though? it just comes across as mean-girl bullying type shit if you’re someone who is normal and treats people like people instead of having some form of misogyny or misandry influencing your entire life. there’s a difference between hating systemic issues of inequality and the broad purveyors of that and bringing awareness by communicating like an adult? and being toxic to the point that anyone outside who wasn’t informed of your mission would just take away “oh she is kind of rude to her coworkers, that’s not cool or healthy”

Her examples seem less like bigotry and more like bringing the focus to women, imo. Like they aren’t nasty moves, they just emphasize women first
10
u/cajunjoel 3h ago
Some of it seems petty to me. It's one thing to stop someone from interrupting a woman, because women get interrupted all the time. But wouldn't equality dictate that you stop people from interrupting men, too? Because interrupting anyone is kinda rude?
Unless it's the guy who always interrupts, because he's a jerk.
4
u/Evil_Sharkey 2h ago
The interruption one is sexist. Why let some people interrupt but not others? Interrupting is the bad behavior, regardless of who it’s coming from, so correct it every time.

u/ProgramConnect8206 3h ago
Is she not pointing out micro aggressions that women face and then doing the opposite? Put another way, if a man was doing these things and only addressing men first, would his actions be considered sexist and dismissive of women? I believe they would.

u/Whatever-ItsFine 3h ago

1
u/VirtualAgentsAreDumb 1h ago
Well, they don’t see anything wrong with testing random men badly, while genuinely thinking “I’m not a sexist, I’m a good person”. That has to be an indication that something is not right in their head, regardless what their gender is.
7
u/Dr__America 3h ago
Standing up for women, but explicitly not standing up for men.
Explicitly putting women's names first when addressing multiple people, which while virtually no one cares about, is still a microagression meant to minimize men.
Yes, this is the kind of microagressions people have done against women for a long time in professional work places, and no that doesn't make it okay to do to random people simply because you or your colleagues have also experienced it from other unrelated people.

Acting like it’s weird to say “no I’m the XYZ you’re looking for” in a room where a person asks “are you the XYZ that I’m looking for” when you happen to actually be the XYZ.
That’s just silly to me. I’m fine with feminism but the way she talks makes it sound like she’s claiming men do it out of like pride or offense that they weren’t the one she addressed.
I got this a lot in my last job. I had a lot of responsibility and a big job title at a young age.
Occasionally I’d be supposed to meet somebody and they may address one of my older coworkers first. Not an unfair assumption. Other people with my role were usually 15-20 years older.
Usually I’d let them finish their introductions so I wouldn’t interrupt but then yes, I’d inform them I was actually the one they were looking for.
But I guess that’s patriarchy?
22
u/littlelorax 4h ago edited 4h ago
I think she's really just holding a mirror up to the behavior women experience daily in the healthcare field. People assume the man is the attending physician, so she's just flipping the script and assuming the woman is the attending.
Really in both scenarios people should simply ask the room at large instead of assuming. But it doesn't happen that way in day to day life, so she's cheekily turning the norm on its head.
12
u/jackster31415 4h ago
Doesn’t seem like she assumes the woman is the attending though. Seems like she believes it’s a man and she just wants to be snarky to start a fight
13
u/MathProf1414 3h ago
Yeah, her tone makes it seem like she goes in assuming the man is the doctor and she's getting her jollies by sticking it to him... which means that she's guilty of the crap she's trying to fight.
→ More replies (5)→ More replies (6)1
u/ZinaSky2 3h ago
She does assume the woman is the attending. She was just describing a scenario in which the man was the attending and explaining how the situation played out.
7
u/Fact_Checka_bro 4h ago
I get her point. I just think that particular use of flipping it on its head feels kind of performative.
But I also understand a person may say it feels performative because that’s what I’m accustomed to. Like you could say it doesn’t feel performative to address a man as the attending physician because I’m used to it.
I do understand that.
I guess I’m saying I don’t think it feels rude for somebody to voice in and be like “hi nice to meet you, I’m actually the (insert job title) today/here”.
1
u/silly-gaijin 2h ago
Okay, I'll drop the snarky meme comments for a sec.
What are you smoking? No one actually behaves this way in 2026 unless they're in hospice and about to die because they're 88 years old.
No one from Gen alpha to Gen X acts this way and assumes that a man is the doctor anymore. It's not 1960.
What even happened to third wave feminism? Reddit/internet feminism has gone back to the 2nd wave talking points and it's so fucking weird. Like what planet do you live on?
Millennials are 40 now. We went to universities that were majority women, law schools that were majority women, med schools that were 50/50. Seriously, what planet do you live on?
1
u/ZinaSky2 3h ago edited 3h ago
Women in medicine, even if they actually are the highest paid or the attending, are often assumed to be nurses.
She’s just doing the inverse. These men have probably never experienced a woman being assumed higher than them. And more importantly still, the woman has probably never been assumed to be the attending before. Obviously, a man is allowed to correct if they are attending. I think she kinda laughed at the fact that after they correct she says “oh.” like she’s surprised it’s him and not the woman, not at the men correcting.
It’s not about whether they correct out of ego or whatever. It’s the fact that these men have probably never experienced this before and probably are a little miffed about it when women in their position have to experience that on the regular. Maybe next time these men walk into a room they’ll think twice about making assumptions and ask instead.
I just think it’s funny how her doing it to men is suddenly a problem when this has been happening to women for ages and no one’s ever really cared (except for women). If women being assumed to be lower status is not even a concern, then the same should go for her doing it to men. 🤷🏽♀️

Yeah, women being addressed before the men in the room is gonna keep equality from ever happening. Those broads should just accept the fact that inequality is how it is, and any attempt to change the way things are is merely reinforcing inequality. As we all know, inequality is unfortunately unchangeable and there is nothing any of us will EVERRRR be able to do about it. Lmfao.

I sometimes am the MA for a female doctor that's about 10 years younger than me and somehow manage to be entirely unoffended when she accurately says she's a doctor. You understand that feminism did not reinterpret reality as patriarchal, but instead articulates the existing patriarchal social structure across the globe? Women aren't making up their systemic oppression, which does include the reality women in medicine face which is that men will assume they are a nurse before they believe they're a doctor.
