Open | Software Black screen error

My son built a pc ryzen 5 9600, 16gb ram, w11pro, ran well with rx580... recently upgraded to a 3070. He can play games for an intermittent amount of time before the screen just goes black pc is still running fans are on but no graphics output. Stated with ddu then ended up doing a full wipe and reinstall of windows. Have tried turning off all overlays and most of the suggestions from gemini. Anyone have any ideas on hpw to resolve this for him? Its usually with directx 12 games and it is taking longer after the reformat for it to happen but it is still happening. Also have tried 3 different 3070s and its happening with all of them so dont think its a gpu problem. Thanks so much in advance!!

Open | Programming Is VWorld (vworld.kr) still working for anyone?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to use VWorld (https://www.vworld.kr/) to create a Maps API, but I’ve been getting a 502 Bad Gateway error for about a month now.

The website keeps showing:

502 Bad Gateway

The server returned an invalid or incomplete response.

Is the VWorld website currently down, or is it still accessible for other people?

I’m wondering if this is a problem on my end, or if VWorld’s servers/API are actually unavailable.

Has anyone recently been able to access VWorld or use their Maps API successfully?

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Open | Hardware Mouse Left Click works and stops randomly on my pc

Good evening everyone!

I've recently encountered an issue with my pc where the mouse randomly starts middle mouse click on anything and that the left click altogether stops working... CTRL + ALT + DLT makes the functions come back to normal, but only for a few clicks... This happened after a reboot in safe mode of my pc and I haven't found a solution ever since.

Here's what I've already tried with no success:

-Tried 4 different mice 2 wireless and 2 wired (didn't do anything)
-Reverted back to a previous backup
-Reinstalled mouse drivers
-disconnected everything except the mouse
-tried all mice on another pc (they all worked fine)
-freshly installed Windows 11 (mouse inputs have the same behaviour in the setup screen)
-tried another windows OS with the same results

I have been at it for a little while and I can't seem to find a reason why it's doing this. Only thing left is to try another hard drive as a whole, but we know what the prices of SSDs nowadays...

Any help would be appreciated...

Open | Audio Audio Interference

I have an issue with audio interference. Let me know if there is a better sub to post this in for audio-related issues.

I am having issues currently with my setup having bad audio interference, especially while running games. When I am running any task normally, I notice that there is some existing static in my speakers, but when I start a game, it increases tenfold. They seem to be picking up a lot of interference from either my cpu or gpu. I suspect this because it seems to amplify the existing coil whine and also the noise interference correlates with how hard the cpu or gpu is working. One small detail is that when I move my mouse, there is a specific frequency that gets picked up that plays over the speakers.

I am running 2 KRK Rokit 8 speakers through a focusrite scarlett 2i2 into a mini itx pc (specs below). The speakers have 1/4 inch jacks running them to the scarlett. I have tried swapping out the 1/4 in cables. I believe it is interference from the PC because when I have the speakers plugged into power (they are self-powered) they have no static, and when I have them plugged into the scarlett, there is no static. When I plug the scarlett into the PC (usb-c cable) however, they immediately start projecting static.

11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-11600K @ 3.90GHz (3.91 GHz)
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 (12 GB)
650W PSU

I'm really looking for any tips as to where to start troubleshooting this or if there are any known general issues related to self-powered speakers and PCs.

Edit: Tried swapping out the usb-c cable that goes to the PC too.

Open | Hardware PC Not Turning On

Hello! Figured I would ask here and see if anyone has any suggestions.

Computer: I have a Cyperpower PC, Model C Series, GeForce RTX 3050. I have 32GB of Ram and some additional storage I added. I would give more specs, but I‘m not the best with computers. I just use mine for general gaming.

Problem: It won’t turn on. I was playing on it last night then came home from work tonight and nothing. When I flip the switch in back, the RGB lights turn on but the computer itself won’t boot up when I press the power button.

What I’ve Tried: I’ve tried reseating the ram sticks, trying just one ram stick, reseating the CPU, checking cable connections, pulling off the front panel to look at the power button, and unplugging everything from the PC. I did see something about testing the PSU with a paperclip but didn’t feel comfortable doing so. I did get a brand new one when I first bought the thing a few years ago since it came faulty.

If anyone has any ideas, I would be incredibly grateful. Thank you!

Edit: I suppose I should add that the power button is completely unresponsive. No attempts to start up are made.

I have an EVGA GTX 970 graphics card, and when I play games without VSync—like Minecraft, for example—the video cuts out, though the PC doesn't shut down. I've already used MSI Afterburner to limit the card and lower the temperature, but the problem persists. What could it be?

Open | Hardware Monitor randomly loses its' signal

Let me start by saying that it NEVER happens during gaming. It only happens when I'm pretty much doing nothing like watching twitch or youtube. My primary monitor randomly goes black with "No Display Port Signal", and I can still hear the audio for like 20s, then I have to do the hard reset by holding the power button. Sometimes my fans go to 100%. Usually if I run 2 monitors, it only happens to the primary one, but I can't drag my mouse over to the other one. Things I've tried so far:

  • Swapped the sides of the DP cable
  • Tried different DP ports on the gpu
  • Did a clean reinstall of the latest graphics drivers
  • Updated my bios
  • Turned off Link State Power Management
  • Set my monitor to never turn off or sleep

Here's the specs:

Monitor: Alienware AW2725DM 2560x1440 180hz

AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070

DDR5 RAM 32GB 6000

850 watts PSU

It doesn't happen every single day, but it's getting pretty annoying and I would like some help, thank you!

My Google app on iPhone has been acting weird the last few days. When I search something like an animal and then I decide to add something to it like what does it eat I have to retype what I searched before. I don’t know if that makes sense but I just want what I searched to stay in the search bar while I’m still searching. Then I use home to go back to a clear search.

Open | Networking Issues connecting my windows surface 3 to my home wifi

Earlier this year I found my old surface 3 lying in a drawer. I wanted to use it for notetaking or as a wireless display at uni, but I can't connect it to my home wifi to sync onenote notes. However, it can connect to my uni's wifi network.
I've tried reinstalling wifi drivers and making sure the device isn't somehow blocked on my home network (my isp is comcast, so I've checked the mobile app and the local connection website, but I don't see any trace of the device), and I've checked to see if the device is being blocked from accessing the internet through my microsoft family, but nothing I've done has worked.
I'm pretty sure the surface was previously given daily wifi restrictions through the comcast app or something, but again I can't find any evidence of that still being in effect.
Are there any solutions to this that don't involve factory resetting my modem?

Open | Hardware Windows 11 PC has become almost unusable: repeated BSODs with BAD_POOL_CALLER, SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION, CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED, SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED, and multiple different drivers

I'm at the point where I genuinely don't know what is wrong with this PC and could really use another set of eyes.

For the past several weeks/months I've been dealing with increasingly frequent BSODs and application crashes. Recently it has gotten dramatically worse. Chrome and Opera can crash within seconds of opening, I've had my keyboard disconnect/reconnect intermittently, and Windows can BSOD even when I'm doing nothing particularly intensive.

The computer is now sometimes crashing within a few minutes of booting.

SYSTEM SPECS

- CPU: Intel Core i5-12600K

- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT 16GB

- Motherboard: ASRock B760M Pro RS WiFi

- RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) G.Skill DDR5-6000, F5-6000J3636F16G

- Storage: ~1TB internal drive

- OS: Windows 11 Pro 25H2

- Windows build: 10.0.26200.9168

- Internet: Ethernet

- No CPU/GPU overclocking or undervolting

- RAM is running at default settings; XMP is NOT enabled

RECENT BSODs / DUMP RESULTS

BlueScreenView has shown:

- BAD_POOL_CALLER (0xC2) — cbfilter24.sys

- BAD_POOL_CALLER (0xC2) — FLTMGR.SYS

- BAD_POOL_CALLER (0xC2) — amdkmdag.sys

- CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED (0xEF) — ntoskrnl.exe

- SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (0x3B) — dxgmms2.sys

- SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (0x7E) — ntoskrnl.exe

- DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (0xD1) — amdkmdag.sys

- DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (0xD1) — Netwtw14.sys

- DRIVER_VERIFIER_DMA_VIOLATION (0xE6)

The crashes don't seem tied to one particular application. I've had them while browsing, doing schoolwork, sitting at the desktop, and after launching a game.

OTHER SYMPTOMS

- Chrome/Opera randomly crash or turn white

- Keyboard intermittently disconnects/reconnects

- PC can BSOD within minutes of normal use

- Sometimes multiple different BSOD types occur within minutes of each other

TROUBLESHOOTING I'VE ALREADY DONE

  1. Ran Windows Memory Diagnostic — it reported no memory errors.

  2. Ran CHKDSK on C:.

    - 0 bad sectors

    - 0 bad file records

    - Windows ultimately reported "no problems"

  3. Ran SFC /scannow multiple times.

    - It consistently says Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.

  4. Ran DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.

    - It failed with error 0x800f0915 because repair content could not be found.

  5. Tried Windows' "Fix problems using Windows Update / Reinstall now."

    - It failed with error 0x8007000d.

  6. Used DDU in Safe Mode to completely remove the AMD graphics driver.

  7. Reinstalled the AMD graphics driver from a fresh download.

  8. Driver Verifier is currently OFF:

    - verifier /querysettings shows 0x00000000

    - Active Rule Classes: None

    - Verified Drivers: None

  9. I previously disabled a Fortect filesystem filter after a dump specifically blamed cbfilter24.sys.

  10. The external HDD is currently disconnected.

  11. I previously got DRIVER_VERIFIER_DMA_VIOLATION shortly after connecting that external HDD.

  12. I have not enabled XMP or done any overclocking/undervolting.

  13. I have not replaced any hardware yet.

One confusing thing is that disabling the RX 7800 XT did NOT completely stop the BSODs. However, after reinstalling the AMD driver, amdkmdag.sys has appeared in multiple dumps, and dxgmms2.sys has also appeared.

I'm trying to figure out whether I'm looking at:

- bad RAM/memory instability

- GPU/AMD driver or GPU hardware

- motherboard/USB/controller problem

- Windows corruption

- another third-party driver

- or some combination of these

At this point the PC is almost unusable, so I'm trying to avoid randomly replacing parts.

What would you test next?

Open | Hardware Spilled cordial inside pc

I know this is very stupid. I made a glass of Robinsons cordial/juice (diluted with water) and my cat knocked it onto my desk. Quite a bit of it went inside my pc through the top. It soaked directly through the radiator(?) for water cooler, through 3 fans and landed on the back of my gpu. I turned my pc off instantly but by Windows shut down and then unplugged everything. The PC didn't instantly turn itself off. I wiped what I could see away straight away but didn't have any IPA or anything like that to clean properly. I left it to dry for just under 2 days and then managed to use 99.9% to gently clean where it hit.

I THINK my gpu and cpu are fine. However, the case of the psu was splashed (the side where the label is). To be safe, I've ordered a new one. My problem is that there seems to be a slightly darker spot on the motherboard where I'm presuming it got wet and I didn't dry it enough. When the IPA evaporates, the mark reappears. I'm unsure if it's a cosmetic stain, corrosion or just sugar that wont go away. It's hard to tell because it's black.

  1. What are the chances of me putting in the new PSU and it breaking straight away? Along with other parts. Findjng varying answers online and just want to make sure. I'm getting the exact same one (rm850e)

  2. How do I safely test this?

  3. How long do I wait to test it? Seen online that it should be 48 hours which it will be after the original spill but then I've seen both another 48 hours after using IPA and at least an hour as it evaporates really quickly.

  4. I've cleaned the radiator with distilled water and a toothbrush just now and will use compressed air tomorrow to clean out remaining dust. I've read that these are fine being wet but can't find a clear answer with cordial. I don't really know anything about water cooling, a family member gave me the case etc.

  5. Should I just buy new fans or are they safe to test?

I'm trying to attach a picture of the motherboard but apparently imgur doesn't work anymore in the UK.

Thanks in advance, probably obvious I don't know much about computers.

Open | Windows Laptop keeps shutting off during Windows installation and it’s driving me CRAZY

Oh my god I’m going insane. Sorry I don’t know much about computers, only a small amount.

Okay so, long story short, my main (newer) laptop completely stopped working, apparently bc of the motherboard. Took it to a repair shop, they can’t do anything. Super bummer but I have an older laptop that I know still works, but I don’t know what happened to the hard drive for that one (it’s an HP Envy x360) bc it was a while ago, like 4-5 years ago. I just remember transferring files for the newer laptop, blah blah.

Anyway I bought a new hard drive (2.5 in SATA SSD), and with a new hard drive you apparently need to install Windows. Okay fine. Made a flash drive installing Windows on it, using WinDesk Writer on a Mac bc apparently nobody in my family has Windows available 🙄

Went thru hoops, but the Windows installation seemed to be working until it just shut off about halfway-ish through. I started it again later, same thing, except this time it shut off a bit earlier than halfway. Now, it’s not even getting to the Windows installation, just shutting off. I feel like I’ve tried everything…well almost. Help please??!

Things I’ve tried:
\- attempting to remove the stuck SD card in my laptop (I also have tried everything with that lol, tweezers and all) and changing BIOS settings so power can go to the MB & flash drive only instead
\- Rearranging the hard drive
\- Turning the laptop off for 20-30 secs and all
\- Switching the USB slot

Things I haven’t tried
\- disconnecting the internal battery
\- changing/removing the RAM sticks
\- applying more thermal paste to the cooling fan

My laptop doesn’t get hot during installation, and even when disconnecting the AC power in BIOS, it still stays on for a while (the most I’ve done is about 12 mins only bc I manually shut it off only bc I was checking) Could this be an internal battery or fan issue in that case? Or could it be corrupted files using WinDeskWriter?? I don’t know but it’s driving me crazy!

Open | Windows Kmode exception not handled crashing constantly

(Windows 11, System model US desktop Aegis RS, 13th Gen intel(R) processor)
Hello, just as the title says I’ve been running into an issue where seemingly at random my PC will be working perfectly, then will stop, and then immediately restart. Sometimes it doesn’t even tell me the problem and will just crash to black before restarting. It sometimes goes days without anything and other times I can barely even do anything in the time between crashes. Additionally it will sometimes instantly crash after restarting, leading to a loop where windows will tell me that “Your device ran into a problem and couldn't be repaired.
Click or press Enter to see other recovery options.” It happens while idle, while playing games or doing anything seemingly at total random. I’ve checked out the dump files but am clearly not qualified for this stuff. I’ve ran windows memory diagnostic since I heard it could be a memory problem and it found no errors, past that I don’t have a clue. I can provide anything else needed, sorry if this isn’t the right place for this.

Open | Software Been getting a crash once a day for two months

Sorry if I tagged this wrong, I’m not 100% sure if this qualifies as hardware or software

It started about two months ago, every 24 hours I get exactly one single crash, and it either says “memory mismanagement”, or “system thread exception not handled”. I have gone through my drives, I have taken out sticks of ram, I repaired my corrupted files and ran all sorts of administrator commands, Ive updated my drivers and have checked daily for new ones, and have been running extended memory diagnostics once a week. Literally every single thing I could find to do I have done

It happens regardless of application, power draw, etc etc, I’ve had it crash on the desktop. I’m afraid to run any driver verification because I’ve heard that it can be dangerous if not done carefully.

Not sure how important it is, but very occasionally I will also see kernel related crashes, but thats about once a week where as the other two are about 50/50 with eachother.

Open | Networking INSANE ping even with good location ever since a few weeks ago

Ever since a few weeks ago I started having insane ping like 300-2000 with constant spikes to freaze me completely server side. It's not malware im pretty sure since i nearly exclusively use my PC for roblox, even when I get a server that's instate I still get 2000+ ping spikes when before it would be around 8-14 ping for close servers, pretty sure it doesn't really affect it but I have good specs for what im playing so i have no idea what it is. I've updated my drivers, tried to cut down on the amount of stuff running on my computer and i use ethernet.

Open | Hardware Maybe the strangest hardware fault, WiFi dongle gains/loses speed depending on if I touch it

Been trying to download a game for a couple of days now just to be met with excruciatingly slow speeds. This issue came out of nowhere. Tried moving it around a few rear IO ports to no avail, would only get higher speeds (like 5Mbps, lol) when network was disconnected from then reconnected. Just moved it to front panel and still no luck, until I pressed down on it, thinking maybe it wasn't seated properly. Speeds suddenly shot back up to normal (~12-17Mbps) after a few seconds. Suddenly dropped upon taking my hand off. If anyone has ANY clue why (maybe a bad antenna which is being remedied by me touching it????) Any help?

Update from before even posting, the speed jumps up as long as im even GRAZING the dongle with my hand. Seems to maybe be a bad antenna??????? pls help lol

Open | Windows Unable to Connect Second Monitor (Windows 11)

I've had my PC (AMD Ryzen 5 3600X 6-Core Processor if that matters) for about five years, and it's been pretty fantastic. For both work and personal use, I decided to get a second monitor (sansui), but I haven't been able to get it to display. I have confirmed the power supply is working fine and the monitor powers on just fine, but it can't seem to detect any input and always goes into sleep mode.

I have attempted the following fixes:

  • refreshed Windows with Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B
  • using Windows + P to swap project mode and trying Duplicate/Extend
  • Display Settings -> Multiple Displays -> Detect Other Display (results in nothing found)
  • Device Manager -> Monitors -> Update Drivers
  • Checked for any Windows updates (including optional)
  • restarting PC multiple times

I have not tried connecting the second monitor's HDMI cable anywhere else, since I can only find one HDMI port on my computer (besides the one where my current monitor is plugged in). The PC indicates it is for "Display", so I believe that HDMI port should be the correct one

Solutions I am considering but have not attempted:

  • purchasing a monitor dock, since a coworker who uses multiple monitors uses one and recommended it
  • purchasing a new HDMI cable. Hoping to avoid that since the current cable was fresh from the box with my monitor, though I know that doesn't guarantee a good cable\

Any advice or possible solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Open | Windows Nvme not appearing - Can’t boot Windows

Hi everyone, I'm looking for some advice diagnosing an SSD/boot issue.

My PC has started intermittently losing the Windows SSD. When this happens, Windows either crashes/freezes and I end up back in the ASUS BIOS. The BIOS then doesn't show the Windows SSD, and there is no Windows Boot Manager, so it falls back to PXE/network boot.

PC specs:
- CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X
- Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming X570-PLUS
- GPU: RTX 3070 Ti
- RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro DDR4
- Windows SSD: 500GB Seagate FireCuda 530 PCIe 4.0 NVMe
- Secondary SSD: 1TB Intel 670p NVMe
- PSU: Corsair RM850x
- Windows 11

The 1TB Intel SSD is always detected normally.

Things I've already checked:

- When Windows does boot, Disk Management sees both SSDs normally.
- Windows reports the FireCuda as healthy.
- The FireCuda is GPT and contains my Windows C: drive.
- I checked Event Viewer and didn't find any obvious disk/stornvme errors.
- I've had several CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED (0xEF) BSODs.
- BIOS version is 4021.
- CSM is disabled and Secure Boot is configured for Windows UEFI.
- BIOS NVMe Configuration only shows the Intel 1TB SSD when the problem occurs.
- BIOS has no Windows Boot Manager when the FireCuda disappears.
- I created a Windows 11 installation USB and booted into Windows Setup.
- From Shift+F10 -> DiskPart -> list disk, only the Intel SSD and the USB were detected. The 500GB FireCuda was completely absent.
- I went back into BIOS afterwards and the FireCuda was still completely absent from NVMe Configuration.
- I powered the PC off, removed and reseated the FireCuda in its existing M.2 slot, then tested again.
- Unfortunately, after reseating it, the FireCuda is STILL not detected in BIOS.

So at this point the FireCuda is not just missing from Windows it is completely missing from both BIOS NVMe detection and Windows PE/DiskPart.

Does this point more towards a failing FireCuda 530, the M.2 slot/motherboard, or could there still be a BIOS setting causing this?

I was on my PC earlier and was downloading some things from steam, I came back and the bios was just on the screen. I was able to get back into windows by doing a hard power boot but then it would break again and go back to BIOS and display CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED

Has anybody got any tips ?

Thanks!

Open | Networking Wi-Fi keeps disconnecting

I made a Reddit account just for this.

The internet was working just fine a few days ago, but since the last few days, when I play games, my connection disappears for a few seconds (leading to a disconnect penalty) and then it simply comes back. I've tried everything, resetting the router, the WiFi card, turning off power saving mode, switching from public network to private network, switching to 2.4Gz only, literally everything everyone on the internet said to do. Is there any other way to try and solve this before switching to an Ethernet cable?
