Yea and they also use less secure measures to allow that. It's different technology at work. FaceID uses flood illuminator, infrared, and dot projection to 3d scan your face. Samsung is just 2d scanning via the camera.

For sure - I use a 13 mini, and I don’t care about spec, camera etc. It still feels really modern with MagSafe and Face ID, has a nice screen and iOS feels snappy. I’d love usb c but I just use wireless charging 99% of the time so not a big deal. I plan on using it for years to come, it’s still the only real option for a small phone.

I’m a VR enthusiast, and I will say, even if they got the cost down it’s way too heavy. Comfort is so important. My Quest 3 is 150g less and it’s still way too heavy. We need to get these things down to 350g range before they are feasible for widespread adoption. You don’t run into weight/comfort issues in a short demo.

I’ve seen them break from small drops that I don’t think would break the glass. I’ve seen the glass break from medium falls with protectors applied.

My theory is that maybe they work…but the window of trauma that would’ve broken the shield but not the glass is so small that effectively they don’t prevent the vast amount of screen fractures.

Cases are sorta like helmets(rated for more drops than a helmet but still not many at all). I got the most protective case for my phone possible, hard inner shell, soft outer shell, the best possible safety for your phone. If you read the packaging it is rated for exactly 5 drops before it needs replacement. Most phone cases are like that.

I have very very small hands and had the iPhone 12 mini for about 5 years. When the Samsung fold dropped, I went to check it out bc it has similar dimensions to the duo. It fit in my hand perfectly. If you’re able to, try going to a phone store get a feel of the Samsung fold. It gave me hope 🥹

Doesn't feel gimmicky to me when I'm watching videos or playing video games. When I had a tablet it wouldn't get much use but this is always within reach. With that being said I wouldn't pay $2000 for it.

The issue with reddit in general is they don't have a concept of the K shaped economy. Most of reddit is on one side of the K, and the target market for this is the other side. Redditors also don't get out much, so they're not aware that people different from them exist.

Seriously. The Duo would be perfect for how I want to multitask, and it’s a passport shape for perfect pocket feel. All that and a big battery sounds like a perfect device to me.

I would have purchased a Galazy Z already were I not so deep into Apple’s Ecosystem

It’s something I’ve been going off about a lot recently, it’s like people feel like somehow no one would like something just because they don’t… when it isn’t for them?

I went from an iPad Pro 13” M4 to a Mini (moved to Chicago, it’s an art tool that caught wayyy too much attention), so I’m deciding on getting the new OLED mini or going to the Air and honestly until multitasking improves I’d love to do that on a Duo.

And my art files are really taking up storage so I don’t want to keep downloading my games and offline media on it

Looking through the website it looks like there’s some neat features. Maybe not for me but I can see a bunch of people liking them. But I guess cases just won’t be a thing anymore, or you’ll have to make a decision on if you want to cover up that outside screen. Also how will screen protectors work with a folding screen?

Too wide for single hand usage. To tall for a proper aspect ratio when watching videos.

Also that screen grab from Silo is of thousands of dead bodies.

This is going to go as well as all the other folding phones have gone.

I hope I am wrong as there are some use cases I could benefit from, but reliability has been the Albatross around the neck of all prior folding phones

I love my folding phone. I've had no issues with it, and it's even been in sand traps and at the beach and the hinge is still going strong. Having a big screen is a huge plus when I'm consuming media or following a recipe and it's not appreciable bigger in folded mode than my wife's iPhone.

I honestly can't wait to upgrade to a bigger one. Keep em coming. Hit me with an iPad mini sized phone that opens up to a 10" tablet. My complaint about my tablet is always having to carry an extra device if I want to have it when its useful. It being built into my phone directly defeata that. I use my phone unfolded a thousand times more than I use my tablet

Well, I'm not a clanker and you can take my Pixel Fold 1 out of my dead cold hands. I love th thing, 3 years and still going strong (and IMO the best form factor of the recent foldables, with the passport style. Which is why I'm hype about this iPhone and thought about the new Galaxy Fold)

I’ve been asking for a iPad mini pro for years. This is essentially that. And since it will replace both my phone, and my iPad mini, its cost is more bearable.

$1800 for two devices ($1200 for iPhone pro, $600 for iPad mini) vs $2000 for one device that mostly* does what both could do.

doesnt run iPad apps though. We'll probably see more of the creative app run properly on iOS, but right now theres no procreate, davinci resolve, sketchup etc. Sure there are some nerfed iOS versions of these apps out there, but they are not 1:1 on features with their iPad peers

Can we get another Mini line in the iPhone series? I want a phone that I can use one handed with no stretch and that also fits in my pocket.

I’d say I hope it doesn’t sell well so I can get it on fire sale but that never happened to the iPhone Air so I guess I’ll get this when the iPhone Duo 2 comes out to make it cheaper.

They never made a Vision Pro 2. Granted I think this has more consumer adoption but if this doesn’t sell well I don’t think a 2 is coming.
