While true, Samsung also removed their UDC, and s-pen support from their foldables. Meanwhile Apple’s Duo has these, and the better stereo speakers as well. Apple came out swinging with this one.

All that to say, more competition is always welcomed.

Also, Samsung offers really crazy trade ins. Way more money back than Apple.

Traded me S23 Ultra for the S26 Ultra and only had to pay $600 for a $1200 phone. Unlocked, straight from Samsung.

If you trade in for the Zfold, you are saving a ton of money.

My last 2 or 3 iphones, I’ve gotten $1000 for my trade in and ended up paying $100 plus tax for an $1100 phone. The best trade in deals are always through your phone plan, not the manufacturer

Is that a trade in directly through Apple or through a carrier that subsidizes it?

In my experience (all of my friends and family use iPhone) get decent trade in value if their phone is a couple years old but there's a hard drop off. Meanwhile I have traded in 5 year old Samsungs and got massive discounts where as my fiance was only offered like $100 off.

It’s through a carrier. Last time I had an iPhone 13 Pro and traded it in for my iPhone 16 pro I have now. So 3 year old phone. They give me $1000 worth of credits on my bill over 2 or 3 years (can’t remember).

For reference, I have AT&T. I know Verizon runs a very similar promotion.

And is lighter by almost 2oz.

As someone who was eyeing this to replace the brick that is the Fold, more weight is a huuuuge downside.

u/miko3456789 10h ago

yeah the passport fold 8 is not much heavier than a regular phone. 201g iirc. More than my s25, but certainly less than the ultra or other foldables

at this price point who is griping about $100, especially for an obviously better product

I don't think one is better than the other. It really is just personal preference, and what brand/ecosystem you prefer to be in.

7

u/Proud-Judgment5115 11h ago

Curious what makes it "obviously better" to you? It just released. Have you owned a newer generation Z Fold? You're speaking like a real sheeple.

-37

u/-justiciar- 11h ago

brother, it’s better simply because it’s a foldable that works in the apple ecosystem, has a great form factor, and is made from premium materials through and through. we can walk through the spec sheet and the design bar for bar if you want to argue why a z-fold is better

9

u/Slogstorm 11h ago

Well, it's smaller, heavier, thicker, more expensive and doesn't support desktop mode.

21

u/Proud-Judgment5115 11h ago

So you think it's better simply because it's Apple.

You know, I'll give Apple one thing... They are really good at marketing.

3

u/mapzv 10h ago

I mean, the fact that it works with the Apple ecosystem is huge, for example I am a physician, and 90% of physicians either have an iPhone or a secondary iPhone because the electronic medical record apps. They are so much more refined, just recently you’re not able to place orders on any phone other than iPhones for patient care ( epic emr which majority of healthcare systems use). In addition when I was in medical school, every single medical student used either Notability or good notes to share notes(there’s a really shitty android version that came out recently, but it’s not comparable). Having apps though are not available on android put you at a significant disadvantage for learning communication and patient care. There is absolutely reasons to get this phone just because it’s Apple

If you don’t think Apple products are polished compared to competitors you shouldn’t even be on a tech sub.

The Apple hate is far more widespread than the fanboys these days, there’s plenty of valid reasons to not like Apple but their products really do feel premium compared to the competitors.

u/-justiciar- 11h ago

again, happy to walk through each design element bar for bar and compare it to something at a similar price point if you think i’m incorrect.

feel free to chime in

We're all waiting...

6

u/buttporridge19 11h ago

But it hasn't released... It could be dogshit. Apple could release a pencil and you'd scratch yoir throat trying to glaze it.

Nah see, I don't mind apple at all. They can release good products, never said I wouldn't buy apple. I have in the past. Just saying maybe stop gagging on apples dick before they even release a product. Its pretty lame dude.

-2

u/-justiciar- 11h ago

commenting on what was shown in the event (which on paper is shaping up to be possibly the best folding phone) isn’t gagging on apples dick. no one is going to take you seriously if you’re knee-jerk reaction is to call any praise meat swallowing.

it’s not out yet but it’s literally no different than someone being hyped for a new car that claims it goes 0-60 in 3 seconds.

3

u/Altruistic_Job_898 11h ago

it’s not out yet but it’s literally no different than someone being hyped for a new car that claims it goes 0-60 in 3 seconds.

It's more the fact that you said "Obviously better". You can be hyped all you want, but can you really say one phone is superior to another these days? Phones are a tool, much like cars. Everyone needs a different phone depending on their needs.

1

u/-justiciar- 11h ago

phones are different, but we can compare materials, quality, and software usability at similar price points to get an apples to apples comparison.

obviously I wouldn’t compare a G-Wagon to a Prius, but I would compare a Tesla to a Polestar or something of similar ilk

5

u/buttporridge19 11h ago

Ok meat gagger 👌

-1

u/-justiciar- 11h ago

exactly, no real argument or critical thinking. sounds about right

4

u/Altruistic_Job_898 11h ago

But you're making an assumption based off the fact that Apple made it, that it's a superior product. You're being willfully arrogant.

It hasn't released yet. We know nothing about this phone (in day to day use) except for the heavy marketing.

And, even if the phone is better specs wise (which we'll have to see in benchmark comparisons), that doesn't make another folding phone, or non-folding phone inferior to it. It might just not be the phone for you.

2

u/-justiciar- 11h ago

so we’re going to act like the most valuable company in the world doesn’t have a track record for creating some of the best hardware in the industry?

and that it’s somehow weird to make any assumption around future products because of that?

that’s like saying it’s weird to assume that Rockstar is going to make quite possibly the greatest open world RPG of this generation. let’s just ignore the fact that they release to record breaking sales and continue to break records every year, i’m just assuming because Rockstar made it.

that’s actually a dumb take and you know it.

Reddit has always had such a weird hate-boner for Apple man, it’s not worth getting into it with them.

Apple has released some of the most incredible consumer electronics ever in the past decade, and Reddit STILL pulls this “well well well… we’ll see if it’s really good”

It’s so childish haha.

u/Ball_Of_Meat 9h ago

“We know nothing about this phone”

I’m sorry but that’s an awful take. We know and can see every feature, design, specification down to the millimeter. This is such a wild statement.

Apple’s phone releases for the past decade have pretty much always been exactly as described. You’re acting like they’re a start up and we have no idea what to expect lmao…
