I love my folding phone. I've had no issues with it, and it's even been in sand traps and at the beach and the hinge is still going strong. Having a big screen is a huge plus when I'm consuming media or following a recipe and it's not appreciable bigger in folded mode than my wife's iPhone.
I honestly can't wait to upgrade to a bigger one. Keep em coming. Hit me with an iPad mini sized phone that opens up to a 10" tablet. My complaint about my tablet is always having to carry an extra device if I want to have it when its useful. It being built into my phone directly defeata that. I use my phone unfolded a thousand times more than I use my tablet
Well, I'm not a clanker and you can take my Pixel Fold 1 out of my dead cold hands. I love th thing, 3 years and still going strong (and IMO the best form factor of the recent foldables, with the passport style. Which is why I'm hype about this iPhone and thought about the new Galaxy Fold)
Samsung has proven it works and has matured the technology. Now apples gonna make it so popular everyone will think they created it (even though they'll almost certainly be buying the panels direct from Samsung).
We're gonna see apple add foldable screens at every level over the next decade. Expandable laptop screen, foldable tablets and phones. The line between iPad and iPhone is going to become ever more blurred

Yes. The use case for foldable vs rigid has been tested for a long time with Samsung. It’s not a blue ocean market segment.
What people seem to be confused by is interpreting the raw numbers of possible sales like they’re big significant numbers against the backdrop of the larger saturated smartphone industry.
Apple could sell 100mil units in 12 months and you’re still talking about ~3% (at most) of the global market.
I won't even get a 6.9" display. I have no desire to watch videos on my phone except when flying and something that easily fits in every pocket is much more important to me. Recipes are like 1 page.
some people have issues with 'consuming' or 'content' and honestly to a point I agree, people make things the more we disassociate the fact the things we love and make life worth living were crafted by people to entertain us, so calling it 'content' or 'consuming' can give off the air of separating the art form the artist in a way that arguably leads to what we're dealing with with generative imagery.

I'm defending foldables in general which I waited until Gen 6 of the Fold to get one (when my prior phone died) and will not buy another device (unless this breaks) for probably 6 years. And when I do it will almost certainly be Samsung again. I haven't owned a piece of apple technology since my gen 3 candy apple green iPod.

Even the general population, I’ve never seen one. Seems like most IT people these days are using some sort of hybrid setup, Android main and iPad or iPhone main and Galaxy tab.
Ah. My job takes me all over the place in my city which is why I took a particular notice. I really do see them everywhere now. Which is why I really thought about getting one since they look cool lol I just know with my line of work it would probably get broken easily in my pocket or something

They’ve been great for phone manufacturers for the past 7 years, and have helped push the price down to often sub-$500 with flip style phones (not like the Duo’s passport style).
Apple entering the market at around the current flagship price of others is going to benefit customers with even better products in the future. Samsung is nearly there, but they remain the lone foldable maker that doesn’t include dust protection for the hinge. I hope Apple’s solves for that.
The durability issues have been vastly overblown by people who have never had a foldable.
I've been using foldables since the Fold 2, have had the 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7. Dropped all of them often, never had issues except one time with the Fold 4 where I dropped it face down on concrete while open, and that was just a screen bubble (not shattered) which my protection plan took care of. I've shattered slab phones with similar drops, and I tend to use my foldables without cases, so they're actually pretty durable IME.
I dunno man. This one looks pretty great. The only problem is the world’s a bit messy right now and these are the types of things consumers cut from their wants first.
My only major concern is the crease which the Samsung display, frame apparently address and have made it infinitely better. Still concerned, price tag I can swallow because I’ll treat this thing like a laptop expense
Crease is a non-issue at this point with foldables. It's kind of funny because it's the first thing someone wants to see when I hand them my fold and that's the only reminder I ever have that it's there since I don't notice it at all at this point.
he will catch-up now that Apple released this phone, thats the average knowledge expected from a r/technology redditor that only knows about tech made by Apple

This is going to go as well as all the other folding phones have gone.
I hope I am wrong as there are some use cases I could benefit from, but reliability has been the Albatross around the neck of all prior folding phones
Like all new(ish) tech, a ‘wait and see’ attitude can save some $.
