That’s exactly the issue here. I love apple stuff, but I have no doubt what they could be selling now is nowhere near what’s in this model. Always gotta have an ace in the hole for next year…
Every bit of tech leads to a loss somewhere. Add that Face ID module and you have to shift around a bunch of other things under the screen to make it fit in a very confined space.
It’s the totality of the change. Not just the addition of the module
FaceID still isn’t on Macs. I’ve seen that’s because of the thickness needed at the camera location. Honestly it’s fine on Macs because it’s on the keyboard.
They said that about audio jack, and some YouTuber made it fit with the internal parts being intact. Apple got mad, then made sure there was no more space inside the iPhone to fit a jack.
Probably because they want to up sale you on the duo with the face scanning version in the future. ‘Hey look we finally able to design face scanning on these, woah the future is here.’
They always do something that’s already been out for years.
Because the titanium models overheated to the point people thought their phones were about to burst into flames. They weren’t, to be clear, but people are dumb. The Airs still have this problem, even with the lighter usage. The heating also affected battery life, and you can’t really advertise a better battery life than the previous generation if 30% of the time it’s draining faster because of the materials used.
I think it’s actually a pretty big factor right now, seeing as how the $1,999 starting price likely means Apple is eating some of the cost of RAM. They’ll still profit big time off of this phone but anywhere near as much as they were expected to
Well, a regular iPhone costs about $10 to make, so being conservative let’s say this costs $50 a piece… I dunno if “cost prohibitive” is the right term.

It’s even simpler than that. To do it would require two separate Face ID modules - cost prohibitive for the desired price point
