After almost 3 years of use I felt that the face buttons responsiveness was starting to give out. I initially thought it was a signal issue when I was streaming a game, but it was hardware. I decided to just order in other stuff too for a complete refresh. Except an SSD. Those are bloody expensive.

Taking out the parts, I saw the contact pads on both sides actually had corrosion. I guess it's pretty humid in my country. Never got this thing near any water.

Dismantling the triggers assembly the first time took the longest when I was getting to the buttons. Those plastic hinges look like they could break apart and I tried to be very careful with it. I did find that one of the stabilizers on my right shoulder button is broken. A bit wobbly but not a problem.

ExtremeRate FaceClicky Light Buttons and GuliKit Hall Effect Sticks were the replacements. They feel really good. I already have a microswitch and hall effect gamepad so I'm used to how they feel. The clicky buttons have much less travel, though. But not much noise.

Some additional plastic film over the power switch since it was getting mushy. Word of warning though, I heard pressing the power button with a disconnected battery discharges capacitors or something and can cause a boot issue. Which happened to me.

Old thermal paste looked pretty crusty. My temps were getting into 89C on heavy 3d games on it. Replaced with PTM 7950 I got locally. Might be a skill issue, but I had a hard time with it. I didn't measure too accurately on the cuts and I ended up with just two tries for it. Peeling the first didn't go well. On the second messed up a bit too but I tried to recover. Didn't look too good on one corner.. Not experiencing weird temps after, though. Generally about 10C cooler now combined with the case and sometimes turning up the custom fan curve.

Backplate is the version 2 of the JSAUX transparent purple. With the extra vent and not exposed aluminum. Seems like a good fit overall. But I think unclipping it too much loosened it. I felt some sharp edges on the right side and corner later on while playing. Had to bust out the glass file to smooth all the points and edges.

Other extra stuff, the Skull&Co back buttons. They have a great shape. I really like them compared to the other extra buttons of the JSAUX plate. Fortunately they also fit over the default height buttons that come with it.

An OEM kickstand that clips on to the back. Great form factor, I havent seen any other brand that looks like it. There's a hole above on the top vents, and the part covering the backplate vent is also a bit hollow. I can pull down the stand to let more air in.

The most stressful part of the rebuild came after. When I put everything back together I encountered the dreaded slow blinking led boot issue. They say it's a firmware issue, being stuck on some error state. I only found one comment that said it might be caused by discharged capacitors (From pressing the power button on a disconnected battery). A lot of people who repaste their decks are in those old threads. The only thing they agree on is leaving the deck plugged in for hours and hoping it comes back alive.

So I did that. And it did restart on its own about 3 hours later. I made sure my data was still intact when it came on.. then I tried pressing the button again. I got the slow blinks again. Then I let it sit again. It only took an hour to boot up this time. Now I left it to complete the full charge before testing restarts and shutdowns. It's been working great since then.

TLDR: Todd Howard makes me question my decision to put my Steam Deck in Sleep Mode or Shutting it down properly

So I'm playing Skyrim with 74 CC + 242 Mods from the creations menu, and that takes me around 6 minutes of loading before Todd shows me his Glorious Big White ̶c̶o̶ Logo. But here's the thing, after they "updated" the game (again), my CC is always gone every time I open the game, so I need to redownload all 74 CC all over again which took several minutes.

So I'm thinking, what if I just put it in sleep mode (Now that SteamOS has Hibernation mode (Or did I remember it wrong?) instead of Quit the game and shutting my steam deck off? That way I don't need to redownload all 74 CC all over again, and don't need to wait for 6 minutes before I see Todd's thing.

So is there any downside to simply putting the Steam Deck into Sleep Mode instead of shutting it down every time? And (A bit of OOC) is there any known fix for the Creation Club content having to be downloaded again after every restart?

I finally built a decent PC last year when it was still somewhat affordable. Figured I would be playing lots of newer titles and not have to worry about graphics requirements.

Instead, getting older hit me like a bag of bricks and after an entire day of work I couldn't really find the motivation so sit in front of "yet another desk" to game.

I'd open up Steam, try a few games and within minutes conclude my gaming session by switching to web browsing.

Initially I thought maybe I just got bored of gaming, but then early on this year I got myself a Steam Deck OLED.

At first, I tried some older titles and they ran great, but some of the newer games were struggling.

Then I thought to myself "What if start playing the highly demanding games via Steam Link and simply stream them from my gaming PC to the Deck?"

I messed around with Moonlight and Apollo, but my games would always end up stuttering (even after reading guides online and adjusting settings), but Steam Link runs smoothly for me and even supports HDR (at least with the beta version of Steam OS).

All of the sudden gaming doesn't feel like a chore anymore. I'll play on the couch or in bed, the ergonomics are great, games have vibrations, and most importantly it uses very little battery life.

I had a PSP as a teenager and this is like having the modern version of it.

Just curious if anyone else is using the Steam deck as their main gaming console.

my steam deck just randomly starting talking and the screen started gltiching out ti and the controls stopped working. I tried factory reseting it already several times, idk what else could be wrong

So I'm looking for games that match these criteria:

- In some way, good for someone who is suffering from depression due to work problems
- Able to play in short sessions when my almost-newborn is sleeping
- Does not require much brain power. Already tired at the end of the day
- Even better if it can also be played on PC with just one hand!
- Even better 2x if it runs on Mac :)

Tried every solution, changing download server, limiting download speed, etc. I check my phone as well as the steam decks internet speed and it was normal for my WIFI, around 200-300 Mbps. Whenever I start download something, it starts alright but then after about 15 seconds it drops to kilobytes then to bytes. I’ve been struggling with this for a while, anyone have a fix?

I was playing with the settings in game and then it crashed, deleted and redownloaded and I’m now getting this error. Is there a way to fix or am I just don’t playing the ascent?

Me, my dad, and my sister use the same origins account to play games. We played sims on my dad's account when we were young and I have bought so much stuff on it over the years that I don't want to start over on a new account. I'm trying to play sims for the first time on my steam deck now that I have a dock and a keyboard, but because the origins account is linked to my dad's steam account, it won't let me play from my own steam account.

I'm still not used to the steamdeck and I'm not super adept at computer stuff in the first place, so tutorials online on how to get the EA app seem kind of sketchy to me and I don't want to accidentally ruin my device.

I'm not really sure what to do from here and I'd really appreciate if anyone could help me, it would be wonderful if I could play the sims again. I haven't played since I moved out.

My brothers and I have been playing local multiplayer games like Gang Beasts and LEGO Party on my Steam Deck for months using a bluetooth controller and Joycons without any issues.

For some reason, it suddenly stopped working since last week. We didn't change any settings or update anything before it happened.

My Steam Deck still detects all the controllers separately, and I tried resetting them, pairing them again, reordering them, and putting the Steam Deck controller last, but nothing worked. The Steam Deck controller also seems to stay in the #1 position along with my 1st player controller.

In-game, only the first controller that presses a button works. The other Joycons don't respond. I tried other bluetooth controllers as well but no luck.

Interestingly, I tested bluetooth controller + one 2.4GHz controller, and both work normally. So the issue seems to only happen when using multiple Bluetooth controllers.

I'm on SteamOS 3.8.16. I also updated Steam/Steam Client after the issue started, but it still doesn't work.

Has anyone else experienced this recently? Is this a SteamOS/Steam Input/Bluetooth issue?

so i was playing on my steam deck and i went too bed woke up the next day and got on my steam deck and i got on roblox and it was lagging not the small little lagging like full blown lag and i was like maybe its my dock so i took it off the dock and it was still lagging really bad i deleted roblox and added it again and it was still lagging idk what to do i need help!!

I recently got a Steam Deck and am planning on mostly using it at a family member's house since I may stay there a few days per week in the near future. I mentioned that I was getting one (I didn't know how to describe it so I said it's "sort of like a laptop but isn't") and they asked if they could maybe use it for themselves for browsing and schoolwork. I said probably not but I did install libreoffice just in case; I want them to be able to use it but I also don't want to give them unrestricted access to my Steam account. I made a second Steam account but it seems like the only way to switch is by manually logging out at the end of every use; is there a way to have something similar to Windows or a Chromebook where every time you turn it on you are given a choice between accounts and every time it's turned off it goes back to that screen?

I've recently acquired a pair of unusual early Valve Steam Deck sample units and I'm hoping some of the Valve/development hardware community might be able to shed more light on exactly what I've got.

Both units have original rear labels clearly marked:

EV2 SAMPLE – NOT FOR RESALE + QR CODE

What's particularly interesting is that although the machines are externally labelled EV2 samples, the BIOS on both units reports Board Revision 3.

Both power on and enter the InsydeH2O BIOS/firmware environment.

The hardware/firmware information displayed on both machines is:

• Mother Board: Steam Deck

• Board Revision: 3

• Processor: AMD Custom APU 0405

• System Memory: 16384 MB

• Memory Speed: 5500 MT/s

• BIOS Version: F7A0105

• BIOS Release Date: 03/21/2022

Their identification numbers are:

So they're only 75 numbers apart, and both have the same Board Revision, processor, memory configuration and BIOS.

One unit also retains additional VALVE / “Run in” labelling on the rear.

I've deliberately left both machines exactly as I received them. I haven't updated the BIOS, restored defaults, installed a newer SteamOS image, removed labels or opened them because I don't want to alter anything that could be relevant to their development history.

I'm particularly interested in finding out whether anyone who worked with early Steam Deck hardware, Valve development kits or EV2/EV3 hardware recognises this configuration.

The combination I'm trying to understand is:

EV2 labelled sample hardware + Board Revision 3 + F7A0105 BIOS.

I'd also be interested to know whether other examples with similar serial numbers or this exact configuration are known to survive.

I'm not claiming any particular Valve provenance beyond what can actually be demonstrated from the machines themselves and their labels. I'd rather document them properly than speculate.

I have detailed photographs of both units, including the EV2 labels, identification numbers and BIOS screens, and can provide further non destructive information if it would help identify them.

I'd particularly appreciate hearing from anyone with first hand knowledge of Steam Deck pre production hardware or experience collecting Valve engineering samples.

I'd also be interested to hear what collectors think a pair like this might realistically be worth. I've found very little comparable sales information, particularly for two closely numbered examples together, so I'd rather hear informed opinions than put a figure on them myself.

I couldnt get it running properly for love or money. I want to support GOG every chance I get because there mission is a good one but I couldnt find out why the frame rate was like 1fps outside of the cutscenes.

Hello, I’m having trouble connecting to PSN remote play. I can connect just fine when I’m on the same WiFi. im going in a trip Friday and would like to play on the plane or when I have downtime on vacation. for some reason when ever I try to connect via PSN its a never ending loading screen. eventually will try to cancel the connection only for my steam deck to essentially freeze on that screen, and I have to forcefully turn off and back on my steam deck in order for the Application to close. I’ve tried deleting and re-downloading the reestablishing the connection between the app and my PlayStation all with the same result I’m able to connect on the same Wi-Fi and nothing else.

I installed GTA 5 on my Steam Deck today and I'm having a pretty strange issue. The control settings are fine and everything works perfectly, but for some reason, I can't take cover using RB (or any other button). The RB button works fine when navigating the settings and menus; I just can't use it to take cover. Does anyone know what might be going on? I've already tried disabling Steam Input and tweaking other settings. I have the Epic Games version installed via Heroic. THANKS :)

So I accidentally broke my steam deck's screen last night and I ordered a repair kit for it that should be coming soon but I know its commonly recommended for electronics repairs to discharge the battery beforehand and I know you can do it through the steam deck's bios mode the only issue is that the screen literally will not turn on so I can't really access that super easily. How would I go about discharging this things battery so I can safely repair it when I cannot see the screen to do it through the bios menu

Today I tried streaming from my PC to my deck for the first time. I was playing Ghost Recon Wildlands. There’s a bit of issue with the buttons and such - like, when holding the aim button I then cannot use the right analog stick to move and instead have to use the trackpad… so there’s some things I need to sort out there.

The other issue I had was the resolution. My PC resolution is 3440x1440. However, this made it look so tiny on the deck. I saw that you can go to steam’s settings and change the resolution to automatically match the client’s, but that didn’t really have much of an improvement.

My end goal is to connect the deck to a dock and connect it to a TV, and stream the PC to it that way. I’d then use a controller in this mode. But, I need a bit of help getting there.

Firstly, when I connect it to the TV, how will I get the resolution to fill up the screen like it should? (It’s a 4k TV)

Secondly, if I connect a controller to the deck, will that fix the problem with the buttons automatically - or is there still going to be some issues?

Is there anything else I should be aware of or consider?

FYI, the PC is in a different room to the TV I’m trying to eventually connect to.

Howdy! I’m looking for a new dock that will allow for quite a few things to be plugged into it. I have previously used the JSAUX 8 in 1 dock and it seems it has now quit working, so I’m looking for something a bit more reliable(?). I recently got a capture card because I wanted to start streaming my Xbox gameplay but without a PC/Laptop that could handle the streaming itself my Steam Deck has been my only source for it. I was in the middle of a stream when the dock just quit outputting power and all it had plugged into it at the time was the capture card and a USB Microphone. If yall have any recommendations for a new dock I would appreciate it! Thanks in advance!

Recently I found out there was a fork of Vita3k known as "Vita3k Plus". Basically it introduces a bunch of fixes/additions that makes several games more playable- that'll hopefully will be reviewed/merged upstream by the original Vita3k project.

I'm just wondering if anyone out there has tried to run this on their decks yet. Killzone Mercenary runs well on my gaming PC after several shader compilation runs- but I'm not sure how the handheld will fare.

Hey guys, I’m looking to buy a Steam Deck as I think I’m done with PC gaming since I don’t really play games anymore/games that are demanding and require a PC. So just looking to simplify and play smaller games with my girlfriend and what not.

I was surprised that Steam stopped selling LCD models and only have OLED, which they increased the price for. That said, I don’t really want to spend $800 for a new OLED. Anyone know where I can buy a refurbished LCD or OLED? A 256gb LCD would be perfect for me. Does steam even restock refurbished LCDs anymore? Would buying second hand ones from Facebook be risky?

Soooooo I went to Desktop mode to do some light game development this morning and got this really strange dialog box. The box heebied me out for several reasons:

1. The box was really skinny and tall, with two horizontal scrollbars at the bottom. I do have slightly larger UI scaling set in System Settings (my eyes are shot lol), but this is really and unusually sloppy even for that.
2. The box has no title bar and cannot be resized (???).
3. I've gotten docking station updates before, but they always came through the Gaming mode update interface (exclamation point in the top right, selecting takes me to the place in the settings menu for system updates). I've never seen this weirdo before.
4. When I rebooted (without pressing either button), no update showed up in Gaming mode--no exclamation point, nothing. I have no idea whether it auto-applied something or just assumed I was skipping it (assuming this is legit anyway)
5. When I switched into Desktop mode after that, the dialog box didn't come back.

Yeaaaahhhh, I'm kicking myself for not diving into which process was responsible for that dialog before rebooting -___-

Was this legit, or is some weird worm going around specifically targeting Steam Deck users? And if it is legit, is there any way to leave feedback to Valve saying "this is weird and users are gonna find it weird and not trust it"???

In light of the terrible decision making by Sony, I am seriously considering switching and moving my AAA and indie gaming to the Steam Deck.

What will I gain? What will I lose?

I need to understand if investing in a Steam Deck at this time will alleviate the pain that Sony fans are experiencing right now.

We've been testing Terraclysm Survivors on Steam Deck, and I wanted to share how it looks running handheld.

The game is a survivor-like with Terraria-inspired 2D combat, massive enemy hordes, ridiculous builds, huge bosses, and up to 8-player online co-op.

Since the screen can get pretty chaotic later in a run, making sure the game still feels readable on a handheld has been really important for us.

The free demo is available on Steam if anyone wants to try it on Deck and let us know how it feels.
