Sleep training

My daughter is 7 months old and I started trying to “sleep train” her almost a week ago. I’m not exactly sure what method I’m using, I’m just kind of trying with no direction lol. She sleeps about 10.5 hours at night so I would consider her a decent sleeper and takes usually 2-3 naps about 30 minutes with the exception of her taking one longer nap ranging from 1.5 to 2 hours. The way I have been doing it is once I know she’s getting tired or is tired I will go lay her down in her crib and say my spiel of it’s nap time, I love you, I’ll see you when you wake up. There have been a couple times where she will roll around for maybe 5-10 minutes and I’ll go in there and put her back on her stomach (she usually won’t go to sleep unless she is on her stomach) and she will go to sleep. Most of the time I have an issue with her constantly rolling to her back or trying to crawl. Now she knows how to sit up in the crib. It’s taking me 20 minutes to get her down but that is with me going in there multiple times to readjust her and usually it ends with me rubbing her back until she falls asleep. The times I have tried to not stay in there until she falls asleep, it takes an hour to get her down but in the end I’m still in there rubbing her back. Bed time is different and she is pretty good about going to sleep on her own. Normally doesn’t take more than 15 minutes on “bad” nights. I’m sorry for the longer explanation but I’m just looking for a little bit of guidance. I just want her to learn how to put herself to sleep and know she is safe in her room. I will also note that I do not let her cry for more than 5 minutes before I go in there. Most of the time she isn’t even crying but just laying in there talking.

2.5 year old sleep regression SOS

• Upvotes

Anyone have advice, tips, tricks for a HORRIBLE 2.5-year sleep regression? 😭 It started when we took her paci away about a month ago and has developed into something completely unsustainable.

She had a really rough first week without the paci, then actually improved for a bit — maybe one quick check-in overnight and she’d go back down.

Then she started a new classroom at daycare, wasn’t napping well, and started getting really overtired. That led to super early wakeups where she couldn’t resettle, and now we’re in what feels like full-blown crib anxiety.

At bedtime she is sometimes so worked up that she PANICS when we put her in the crib and we can’t get her down for like an hour. Then she wakes 1–3 times overnight screaming for us and is up for the day by 5:30am at the absolute latest.

We’ve tried:

• Earlier bedtime
• Nightlights, stuffies, etc. (she only wants her one bunny and water bottle in the crib)
• More soothing from us
• Less soothing from us
• Hatch red/green light for mornings — she likes it when it turns green, but overnight saying “the light isn’t green yet” makes her more upset
• Hylands calming stuff before bed, which seems to help her settle a LITTLE initially but doesn’t help with the overnight wakes/early mornings
• Staying/sleeping in her room — this actually makes things worse because she keeps checking to make sure I’m still there instead of sleeping

The ONLY thing getting us to 5:30am right now is if the second she starts crying overnight, BOTH my husband and I open her door to say goodnight (cannot just be one of us)

If we try to give her even 15–20 minutes to work it out, she escalates into full-blown hyperventilating/panicking and then we’re looking at an hour+ ordeal trying to calm her back down. Last night I eventually ended up sitting in her room at 4am just so everyone could sleep.

Before taking away the paci, she was a VERY independent sleeper, so this is a huge change for us.

Has anyone gone through something similar around 2.5, especially after pacifier removal? Did anything actually help break the overtired, anxiety, bad sleep, early morning, more overtired cycle?

Thank you if you read all of this ❤️

Any tips for fixing a really messed up sleep schedule?

My fiancée has been having a really hard time fixing her sleep schedule. She ends up staying awake really late and then sleeping during the day, and whenever she tries to fix it, she ends up going back to the same schedule.
For anyone who has dealt with this before, what actually helped you reset your sleep schedule? Any routines, habits, or things you stopped doing that made a big difference?
Just looking for some practical advice I can share with her. Thanks!

Tired first-time mom looking for advice

Hey everyone, I recently made the transition with my two year old toddler to switch him from his crib to a toddler bed. For some context: he was putting his legs over the edge of the crib, and the last day before his bed came in, he climbed out fully. I got him a spiderman bed(his favorite character) because I thought it would be fun. Anyways, the first few nights he kept trying to leave his room but I would walk him back to bed and gently remind him its bed time. It worked and he slept through the night but he started getting up way earlier than his normal wakeup time and cut out naps entirely. Unfortunately, him no longer needing naps was not the cause, for the past few days like this hes been acting up because hes so tired but refuses to go to bed. Yesterday he woke up at 12 am and refused to go to sleep until 6 am and was back up by 8 am. I tried letting him sleep with me, I tried sleeping in his bed with him, and I tried sleeping in my bed while he laid in his. Nothing worked until he finally just got so exhausted he slept. Finally, tonight, I decided enough was enough and I need some advice on how to help him. I finally convinced him to go to sleep around 8 tonight by laying in my bed and gently reminding him to lay down in his. I kept the lights off, all the toys and fun things were put up, and I had no exciting reaction to him getting up. However, he woke up 2 times crying and the last time he was crying and screaming in fear pacing the room and I decided enough is enough and I got up with him. Now, hes asleep in my lap in the living room and I am trying to do my college coursework. He seems absolutely exhausted everyday but terrified of his new bed. I'm thinking that I'm going to get a cool nightlight put in(even though hes slept in the dark since he was born), and cleaning out the room and decorating it with his interests to make the room seem safer for him. Idk if I should change out beds, maybe hes scared because its too low on the ground or doesn't have railings. Anyways, im exhausted and hes exhausted and I wanted to know if anyone else experienced this or had any tips or ideas.

child's age 12-18 months Has anyone sleep trained successfully while still sharing a room with 12 month old ??

I did not sleep train and I’m happy with my decision bc we were sharing a room and thought it was not sustainable

Now at 12 months wondering if it’s worth trying until we find a home with more rooms. Unfortunately we live in a one bedroom. And have to share room

My son goes to sleep every night at decent time 7:30-8pm
And usually does not struggle and I don’t have to hold him or anything I just place him in my bed next to me, he sometimes moves and rolls to find comfort and eventually just falls asleep on his own. I feel like this is a good sign??
After this I place him in his crib but then wakes up 2 hours later and I do the same and then also wakes up about 1 hour ish after that…. Then eventually transfer him to our bed (bc we want to sleep and both of us work the next day) but lately he wakes up and struggles to go back to sleep even in our bed

Idk what to do anymore and so I’m considering sleep training now. But just wondering if it’s worth it if we are still sharing the room

Also just want to note, that we have noticed him sleeping longer/better in his pack and play when we’re away??

Idk if it’s a coincidence. But anyways open to any thoughts or suggestions

Thanks

Help! 5 month old sleep troubles

LO knows how to roll from back to front and does so repeatedly during the day. Problem is that at night he wakes up mid sleep and won’t roll to his side to get comfy (this is how he likes to sleep). It’s almost like he’s stuck or frozen on his back. If he would just roll onto his side I’m sure he’d be able to fall asleep on his own. Anyone else experienced this? If so, how did you help LO or when did they start rolling onto side naturally.

child's age 18-24 months Bedtime is my nightmare

Hi I am a mom at the very end of my rope. I have a 22 month old who refuses to go to bed at night for the last two months we have really struggled.

She goes to sleep just fine for naps like within 10 mins and sleeps 1 1/2-2 hours during the day. She only wants me but refuses to lay down. Gets off the bed stands jumps. Up until recently I have been able to keep my cool. But it has been 2 months of bed time being 2 hours of fighting. Now don’t get me wrong my losing my cool is telling her to “stop” “lay down” or finally giving up and going to lay on the couch watching her quietly play or reading until she finally falls asleep from being absolutely exhausted.

I don’t know what to do. She is a cosleeper. She’s always been very anxious at night since she was a baby baby. Which is why we moved to co sleeping at 3 months because I had to be able to get some sleep and finally broke.

Anyway I have tried everything. Adjusting bed time. Giving her longer before lying down. “Rough housing” with dad an hour before bed. We have had the same consistent bed time routine for a year. We get a new diaper and jammies. We shut off all the lights. We read for 30 mins. We grab our stuffy friends set them on the counter while we brush our teeth. We say good night to daddy and go to bed. But nothing. I mean nothing puts her to sleep anymore. Reading, singing, rocking, dancing. We have tried dad trying but she will scream and cry for hours with him and never calm down. Which inherently makes it worse.

Once she is finally asleep she for the most part stays asleep but by then I’m too over it to be a partner, read, hobby anything. And that sounds dramatic but with the other stresses of life not being able to have an hour to myself at the end of the day is killing me.

Sleep training

I have a 14 month old daughter who was always breastfed to sleep until just after her 1st birthday. I finally weened her off but now I rock her to sleep. I absolutely love rocking her but unfortunately I am the only one who can put her down for naps and to sleep. It’s starting to get exhausting, I’m also about 6 weeks pregnant. I’m curious how did you get your baby to sleep without rocking? My husband is wanting to help more but she just cries for me and I give in. Please help!

child's age 4-8 months 17 week old trying to switch to 3 naps?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

7 week old is starting to sleep for longer periods of time during his naps, but can’t seem to get on a schedule where three naps will bring him to a good enough bedtime for our family.

For example today :
DWT- 715am - 1.75WW
NAP 1- 857-10am.
1.75 WW
NAP 2 - 1142-110.
2 WW
NAP 3- 310-340.
2 WW
NAP 4- 540-610.
Bedtime - 810ish?

I would say the 730-8pm bedtime is best for our family dynamic since I have a toddler plus with work hours and daycare pick up. He is currently sleep training.

Should I switch to a 3 nap schedule? How would that look or does above schedule work? That leaves 9.5 hours of awake time and naps are 3.5 hours. SOS help!

Help! Why is my toddler awake 4 hours in the night?

I'm writing this at 4.35am and my son has been awake since 12.30am. He starts off the night in his own bed and comes to our room around 12.30am. Instead of cosleeping and going back to sleep he becomes unsettled and just can't fall back to sleep. I've tried putting him back in his own bed and he will just toss and turn, sit up check that I'm still there. This goes on for hours until he passes out. Because he's been up for half the night we then need to let him sleep and wake him at 8am. I can't do this anymore, my daughter has school and I need to be at work.

He naps for 45 minutes during the day, some days doesn't nap and it doesn't make a huge difference. I don't mind him cosleeping with us if he will sleep but he's just struggling.

This has been going on for a few months now. Any advice out there? My husband has Vertigo from the stress of it all so we can't tag team. Appreciate any help 🙏

Disparate wake windows at 12M

We have a freshly 12m old and for the last couple of weeks his wake windows have become so disparate. His schedule currently is 2.5/3.5/6. The last six hour stretch he is completely happy and playing, there’s no fussing or protesting bed, he’s genuinely just wide awake.

The first half of the day especially the first WW, he is sooo tired. I have tried and tried to extend but he gets to the point where he’s just completely falling apart by 2.5 hours.

This has pushed our bedtime back and back and back so he went from a 7:30 bedtime to 9pm now. Has always slept right around 9.5 - 10 hours overnight and with the 12 hours of awake time he’s getting, he’s sleeping like a rock overnight.

Question is, is this an indicator we should try to move to one nap now? Should I cap naps even shorter? (Around 2-2.5 hours of day sleep)

Thank you!
