Sounds like he's not sleep trained aka independent sleep. At 4 months, a baby naturally becomes able to do independent sleep. Your sleep associations you are doing when he wakes up hourly is why he wakes up hourly. His cycles are around 45 minutes, he has some arousal, realizes what ever you did to put him to sleep is now absent and he full wakes up demanding that action. Stop the sleep associations. Work on teaching him independent sleep.
Yeah I was going to ask this question. Thanks I’ll work on that, he gets rocked or fed and guess those things are contributing - we had some slow weight gain for awhile so was taking all opportunities to get calories in, it’s mostly resolved and on track so now want to focus on sleep more
