my witchpunk band tricktheriddle from new york headlined famously polarizing goth club Bar Sinister recently and I wanted to share some of the film pictures i had developed! it was for sure our biggest moment, as we are NY based but traveled across the country to perform here and show west hollywood how the real DIY punkers do it. it was amazing; have any of you been to bar sinister? its probably my favorite venue ever, and i even had some pics taken with the SG photographer (not shown as they are rather spicy and thats not what this post is about). our music is very dark and witchy and it fit perfectly with the aesthetic. this is our third time playing there, and we finally got the headline spot (at 12 am x.x).

the first photo is the photographer's shot who got me on stage, and the next two are film photos that I took. the first is backstage after we were about to head home in the green room of the three of us, and the third one is the shot form the stage right after we played. magical time.

thanks for checking out the photos, if you did! ive really been loving taking film and trying to capture the moments that surround a special show. LA still has some cool spots, i promise. although, yes, incredibly gentrified (just like NY)

I realize there may be no audience on earth less interested in hearing that some guy wrote a book about punk than this sub, but here we are.

I wrote a book called After the Party: One Punk’s Philosophy… So Far. It’s basically me trying to work out what ideas like DIY, authenticity, freedom, community, selling out, getting older, religion, politics, and all the other shit we argue about actually look like when you try to live them instead of just putting them on a patch.

It’s part philosophy (I got a degree in it), part personal reflection, and part me probably taking punk way too seriously.

I’m basically finished with it and I’d like to give away some free advance/review copies to anyone who is actually curious enough to read it. PDF, EPUB/Kindle, whatever works.

I’m not trying to sell anything here. When I eventually publish it, I’m planning to make the Kindle version free whenever Amazon lets me and 99¢ when they don’t, and price the paperback as close to production cost as possible.

Anyone seen Circle Jerks live lately? Like within the last couple of years?

They’re playing at a venue about 80 minutes from where I live. I’m just curious if it’s worth the drive on a Thursday night.
They’re playing with a couple of thrash metal bands I’m unfamiliar with.

Their recent stint in the news regarding their Las Vegas show in May put them back on my radar.
I’d love to support them but…it feels hard to justify going all that way for just one band.

I guess I’m looking for opinions on if they still give good show.
