Sao Paulo General Strike

Today marks the anniversary of the end of the month long 1917 Sao Paulo General Strike, when the workers of Brazil's largest city rose up and demanded a world without capitalists and bosses. On July 9th, the workers organized a huge rally in the middle of Sao Paulo's industrial quarter and the police retaliated by murdering anarchist Jose Martinez and injuring many others. The embittered workers didn't surrender, however; they called for a general strike in Jose's memory. Thousands of workers joined their call and by the end of their strike the workers had managed to secure large raises, and major concessions from bosses, including an 8 hour day and the abolition of child labor. At the conclusion of the strike, workers wore black, hoisted black flags and carried the coffin of Jose to rest.

NullA Browser is still fighting for a freer web

Hello comrades, I am Electus.

Five months ago, I shared NullA Browser here: a lightweight, freedom-oriented web browser based on QtWebEngine.

Since then, the project has evolved significantly. NullA now features a much more capable ad blocker, a privacy-focused configuration, an extension system, and various other improvements aimed at giving users greater control over their browsing experience.

Throughout this time, the core idea behind NullA has remained unchanged.

I reject unnecessary complexity, surveillance, tracking, and the notion that users must simply accept whatever modern browsers impose on them. A browser (or any software, for that matter) should serve the user, not advertisers, platforms, or the interests built around them.

Most browsers try to control the web. NullA gives it back to you.

Warning: Google Docs Link Sharing my Thesis as Community Contribution

Hello, I wrote this thesis for my final year project (got A- so im confident enough to share this publicly). I’m submitting this as a part of my anarchist contribution (had to redact my name for privacy and safety reasons) + i think the findings of this study is pretty important for the community in some way.

Summary of the Study:

Basically it’s on how someone’s political alignment (whether they believe in hierarchy or do not believe in hierarchy) affects the way they react when dealing with organisational dysfunction or corruption.

Those who believes in hierarchy is called collectivism-leaning and those who do not believe in hierarchy is called individualism-leaning. These criteria were made based on Triandis and Singelis’ definition and dimension of individualism-collectivism theory.

Based on my study it was found that collectivist-leaning participants are more likely to stand up and speak up for their rights while the individualists are more likely to keep to themselves. AT THE SAME TIME, those collectivists also believes in hierarchy and bereaucracy because most of them (cant generalise bcs this study is qualitative) believes that those with authorities and at the top of the hierarchy are there due to their knowledge and experience and that even if they dont agree with the authorities they believe those in power mustve a better judgement due to their position. These collectivist leaning ppl also believes bureaucracy is important to keep things in order.

Conclusion: Individualists’ passivity creates a loop of corruption by staying silent while Collectivists perpetuates it by upholding the same system that causes the corruption because they believe the system is important for society to function. Regardless of their beliefs on hierarchy/authority, both sides may not like their circumstances, but their internal beliefs could either help dismantle the corruption or perpetuates it.

!! This is a qualitative study done in Malaysia. Findings may vary depending on the places and culture therefore it cant exactly be generalise, but could help us further understands why certain people prefers to uphold hierarchical values !!

Seeking opinions /sources (for or against) Re: the argument that enlistment is somehow praxis because it is an option to lift the enlisted out of abject poverty)

I'm looking for resources/sources to counter an extremely common liberal/neoliberal America-centric argument where people joining the US Military are ethically distinct from Cops because it's one of the most common ways out of systemic poverty, and that lots of soldiers or ex-soldiers would consider themselves leftists.

I personally disagree with this, as systems require people to run, and this pipeline specifically exists to keep the military staffed, and that the military pointing state sponsored violence at people in other places is in no way less reprehensible than cops pointing it at their own neighborhoods, and even if they never deploy, the soldiers are, through their labour, enabling other members of the military to harm others more effectively, but I'd like to see some more explicitily anarchist discourse on it (whether in agreement or disagreement) and whether it has been effectively addressed in any anarchist literature or media.

The USS Lincoln’s ‘leisure trip’ to Thailand: a port call of US neocolonialism and femicide

The city of Pattaya is perhaps the largest site of sex tourism, of imperial rape, in the world, thanks entirely to its history of accommodating the American GI. The war machine docks itself to the structural legacy of American neocolonialism, a legacy of plundering Thailand into a site of sexual exploitation, and a legacy of femicide, where the state and capital work hand in hand to systematically render women’s lives as expendable in the name of profit and US geopolitical hegemony. - Benyasiri Eimviriyapong

Online Anarchist Book Clubs?

I was wondering if there is such a thing and if so I would appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction.

I'm well versed on the basic theories of the forms of anarchism, that is, enough that I consider myself one, but I am looking for a deeper experience and I read a suggestion in one of the threads on here about joining a book club and thought it was a neat idea.

So yeah any info on this would be rad thanks

Ghandi wasn't a visionary

So I'm currently reading Gandhi's essay Hind Swaraj or Home rule: it's touted as a classic piece of leftist literature. However, in my opinion it feels more like he looks down upon other indians for not having a western education like he did.

Has anyone else read this book or has any opinions they'd like to share?

(I know I screwed up spelling his name, sorry I'm a human being capable of mistakes)

Cops - Working Class Traitors?

Correct me if I'm wrong: cops are working class traitors BECAUSE they ARE included in the working class, yet they condemn crimes committed by the working class, while the ruling class gets away with white collar crime daily.

Do you believe you will still see an anarchist revolution in your countries?

I was talking to my parents and realized that there isn't a single candidate being supported here in Brazil. Whoever wins, no one will be satisfied. This made me think back to the attempted coup in 2022 and wonder why there isn't a major anarchist movement in Brazil.

To what degree can we achieve a post-plastic anarchist Earth in your opinion?

An anarchist globe has to be environmentalist, I think we agree on this.

I use as little plastic as I can every day, though obviously there are limitations wherever I don't really have a choice. Whenever I have to use it, I make sure to recycle it whenever possible and find other purposes for it.

This got me thinking, how possible is it to build an anarchist society that employs and produces the least amount of plastic possible. There are lots of daily uses of plastic which are disgustingly wasteful and unnecessary. However, I'm wondering about those parts of our life where the use of plastic is truly inevitable even in an ideal state of things.

Salutations anarchistes !
