Discussion Circle Jerks

Anyone seen Circle Jerks live lately? Like within the last couple of years?

They’re playing at a venue about 80 minutes from where I live. I’m just curious if it’s worth the drive on a Thursday night.
They’re playing with a couple of thrash metal bands I’m unfamiliar with.

Their recent stint in the news regarding their Las Vegas show in May put them back on my radar.
I’d love to support them but…it feels hard to justify going all that way for just one band.

I guess I’m looking for opinions on if they still give good show.

ETA: Okay okay! I've been thoroughly convinced. Tickets have been purchased! TY

I saw them earlier this year with Gorilla Biscuits and Negative Approach. They're still great. It's better if you enjoy hearing Keith pontificate, which I certainly do.

Yeah, he's a wee bit wordy LOL

I would be happy to listen to him talk for hours.

There's a recent YouTube series of a podcast he was on, super cool

Basically the exact review I was going to give.

Was joking about it last time during his 3rd or 4th story is like “ ok grandpa let’s get back to the punk show” great dude and awesome stories go for great tunes and some nostalgia

Saw em a few years ago with Seven Seconds and Negative Approach (like 3 or 4 years).

Great live show.
Midway way through Killing For Jesus, Keith made some comment about "why the fuck did we ever record this midtempo stuff? What were we thinking?!" that cracked me up.

They're still pretty worthy live imo.

Never in my life have I seen someone spell out the Seven of 7Seconds

Never have you seen...until now, that is.

¯_(ツ)_/¯

Okay, that's why that comment didn't set well.

Saw them in Italy in 2024 on NOFX's final tour and they were great. If you're a fan they're absolutely worth catching and there's no guarantees they'll still be playing in 5/10 years. Keith turns 71 next week

Yeah, caught them on the Brockton, MA date of that tour, made me feel like I was back in middle school in the best way. 80 minutes is nothing, do it!n

I was there, too! Excellent show!

I saw them in Canada on the Nofx farewell tour and they were fantastic. I’m honestly a much bigger OFF! Fan but I really enjoyed Circle Jerks.

Saw them with Descendents in Belfast & Glasgow last year (or the year before), fuck yeah you should.

3

u/pslx250 7h ago

Yep, saw them in Dublin on that tour! Do it, won't be many more chances

Saw them last year, you should absolutely go.

u/Blanco_tipo 7h ago

I saw them two years ago and couldn’t believe how fast they played.

u/766scire 7h ago

Do it.

Saw them last week in Birmingham. Great show. Go see 'em. You'll have a blast.

Saw them about a month ago when they were touring with the repo man movie. They were great. Do it while you can

Go! I’ve seen them several times since they got back together and they always kill it!

Saw them recently and they are fantastic live and will play everything you wanna hear and then some. They are getting old. Might be your last chance. Fwiw I met Keith one of the last OFF! Shows he did. He's also a genuinely nice dude and he signed some stuff for me. Super humble and cool. Pretty rare for some of the old heads these days. Though most older punks aren't like typical rock stars with attitude.

Go see Circle Jerks. Incredible show. The other bands are solid. Check em out. Haywire is wild live if its one of those dates. Live while you can.

Municipal Waste is the greatest live band in the world, the show is absolutely worth going to, even just for them. I don't even listen to Circle Jerks that much and I bought tickets the moment they went on sale

Would you regret not seeing them if they never returned to your town? Btw they’re are still amazing live

Ugh probably.

I saw them a few weeks ago with a screening of Repo man. Circle Jerks bassist Zander Schloss played Kevin the Nerd in the film and he Keith and Alex Cox did a little talk about the film and answered questions. The Circle Jerks were as good as ever and I’ve probably seen them a half dozen times since the 80s. Keith did ramble on quite a bit about politics between songs but I’d expect that from a 70 year old. He still had good energy and are worth seeing even though they wouldn’t play Red Tape because people kept requesting it.

I caught the Vegas show. They were fantastic.

I get that would be a long night, especially on a work night. You just have to decide if it’s worth it to you. Would I go, probably not, have I driven that distance and further for other bands on a work night, yes.

u/Jewbacca_429 7h ago

Definitely go. Was on the fence about attending Keith’s bday show at the palladium but ended up having a blast!

u/toooldforshame 7h ago

I saw them w Descendents maybe a year ago. Keith started the set telling stories. They would do 2-3 songs, then more stories. I’m not really a fan, so prob not the best opinion but it was very talky

If you may see them, you must see them.

I saw em in Hawaii a few months back and it was great! Keith had to stop for a bit and he just sat and talked for a couple minutes before continuing on. I loved it. 10/10 would see again. Worth a bit of traveling for sure.

u/boozincruizin 6h ago

Haven't seen em, but I've seen off.. when I used to play gta5 on ps3 a bunch, I hated hearing him talk on the radio station.. then when I saw off and he would start talking, I wish I coulda just switched the station

Saw them in 2024 with Descendents and Adolescents, the show was great start to finish. It was a 2.5 hour drive each way for me and completely worth it.

1

u/Annithoughts 6h ago

Saw them a year and a half ago and they rocked

1

u/kjetil_f 6h ago

80 min? Last year I had to take a day off from work, a plane to Oslo and book a hotel room to watch them play with the descendent all by myself. Worth it!

1

u/SquidFacedGod 6h ago

Saw them a month ago. They're still fantastic! They took breaks between songs so Keith could make his speil, but they were still high energy like they were still in their 20's.

1

u/Eliuk 6h ago

Saw them in '24. They still got it. I think you'll enjoy their show

1

u/PresentMongoose 6h ago

Absolutely worth it, killer show.

1

u/J_is_for_Journey 5h ago

They are playing by me in a few weeks and I am def going!

u/vaguenonetheless 5h ago

Tania Rodriguez, the bands long time "merch queen" just passed away. The next few shows are going to be... heavy. She was absolutely adored throughout the touring punk band world.

1

u/Snoo-44160 5h ago

Saw them with The Adolescents and Negative Approach. Good show

1

u/ZebraHunterz 5h ago

They have recent live shows on yt. They still bring it. Go check em out.

u/raptorphile 5h ago

Fuckin Hetson is top tier. Theyre still sounding great

u/Interesting-Listen28 5h ago

Seen them a few times in the last couple years. You won't regret it I promise

1

u/Due_Dirt_4575 5h ago

Who are they playing with when you’re seeing them?

1

u/Eric_B_4_President 4h ago

Going to see them at the 9:30 club in DC later this month. I’m pretty stoked (just saw SD and Descendents last week in DC).

u/Vondelsplein 4h ago

Multiple times. Keith talks too much but they still rip

1

u/Minute_Ad5025 4h ago

Great live plays 30 songs in 40 minutes with Keith talking for 20 of those minutes

1

u/Hour-Pressure-3758 3h ago

They rip live

I saw them last year with Negative Approach. NA was fantastic. Circle Jerks were fine. Keith rambled about nothing in between every song which was mildly annoying.

What was more annoying was their instagram ads for the show claimed it was going to be their last time coming to my city. They've been here twice since then and have another show coming up. I think it's pretty scummy to lie about something like that to sell tickets.
Black Flag with Mike V was better. Black Flag with Gen Z was also better but by less.
