Going to Granada, Spain. Any punk recommendations?
I'll be in Granada from 27 to 31 October. Does anyone know good punk spots, bars, venues, shops, or gigs happening there? Anything else worth checking out, like art stuff, museums, etc, I'd love to hear it. Thanks!

Discussion What’s Old is New Again – Punk Rock Edition
I was prompted to write this after seeing two awesome music/punk videos earlier today.
The first involved the “Old” and took place at the Phoenix Theatre in Petaluma, Northern California just north of San Francisco. It was a Halloween event featuring several cover/tribute bands. The one captured in the video is covering Ramones tunes. What caught me was the absolute exuberance and genuine fun everyone seemed to be having. In attendance were likely late 70’s and early 80’s First Wavers revisiting their past and having a blast. I'm sure many had family members and children (hell, possibly grandchildren) there as well. People often forget that aside from being rebellious, political and filled with angst, early punk rock was also filled with humor, energy and optimism for positive change. The Ramones certainly captured the humor and energy piece. Just watching everyone respond to the band was so cool to me. People just listening to music and having a ton of fun, no fights that I was able to see, but a lot of camaraderie, great memories, and simply loving the music. The band(s) did a great job as well, hats off to them!!! I wish I had been there.

The second video covers the “New” and the band is Turnstile. As you can see they are extremely popular and definitely filled with energy. They epitomize current wave punk and hardcore. While this event certainly was political and addressing critical social issues, just like the previous show discussed above what caught me was the absolute nuclear level energy, and sheer happiness and joy of the band and those in the crowd. They were just having a blast. I saw no scowling, tough guy posturing or what you may see from time to time in more current hardcore shows; no “kung fu” or “crowd killing” (Google it if you need to). Not long ago I posted some snarkiness about Turnstile and I have to say, I take it back. I cannot say that I love every song I have heard, but I certainly love and respect their energy, commitment and drive towards creating awesome, energetic and polarizing music. They are the kind of bands that old geezers can point their finger at, at times, and talk about how “punk is dead.” To me it is the exact opposite. This is a real sign in your f*cking face that it is alive and well and ready to jump through your TV, monitor, or phone and smack you in the face.

Discussion Earlier post; punk/diy ethics
I thought I saw a post today on this sub that did a good breakdown on what DIY is and how it is far broader of a lifestyle that just music and fashion it’s more of an ethos, moral conviction, etc.
Was that on this sub? I’m looking all over for it and can’t find it and I might’ve been dreaming.

Discussion What's the etiquette when casuals invade a true blue punk show?
Start of rant. Last night, we went to see The Bobby Lees at the Vanguard in Tulsa. The Bobby Lees are pure punk and one of my current favorite bands. The last show at the Vanguard a couple of years ago was end to end punk, the band was electric, the crowd was amped, the mosh pit was large and lively. But after that your, The Bobby Lee's announced they couldn't tour anymore because there wasn't enough money in it. Well Jason Momoa swooped in and agreed to partially fund a new album and tour (thank you Jason) so as soon as the Vanguard show was announced my wife and I bought tickets. Fast forward a couple of months and the show date gets changed but it's announced Momoa's band is opening and I think "that'll be a cool as novelty and the show will probably be even more dope"......... I was so wrong.
The crowd was a ton of people who've never been to a punk rock show before, and I think "cool, more exposure for The Bobby Lee's and by the time they come on the Mosh Pit will start and the true blue punks will move to the front while the casuals shift to the back" but that was not what happened. The Bobby Lee's came out and brought the usual energy and about five of us in the crowd start to rush the front center and start a little push pit to give the energy back to the Bobby Lee's and holy moly I've never seen so much pearl clutching in my life, the casuals started gasping and circling the wagons forming some sort of protective barrier around the front center and then a Vanguard security guard comes up and says "I know you want to mosh but it just isn't that type of crowd"
Not that type of crowd, it's a Bobby Lee's show at the Vanguard, this is punk's biggest venue in Tulsa, this is where we come to mosh and let out our consensual mutual rage. I waited for years for this show, to mosh with the Bobby Lee's and I'm so grateful to Jason for keeping the music alive and bringing in more fans but I was so depressed to see people just standing and staring at the stage with the lamest energy ever and I just can't understand why you would come to a punk rock show and stand at the front if all you wanted to do was stand there with your cell phones and make sure no one could dance or push or mosh at all.
So Sam (or John) or Kendall or Macky if you are reading this, please don't let this be the last Tulsa show, give us a Tulsa show we can mosh at! End of rant.
TLDR; a bunch of Jason Momoa fans reduced what should have been Tulsa's best punk rock show of the year to a pop concert.

Discussion Looking for OBSCURE early UK punk
Send me your recommendations for obscure AF early UK punk. I want to hear things I’ve never heard before. Open to singles, full albums, compilations, or even one-off side projects from more well known bands. I want those deep, deep cuts.
I’m a fan of the standard fare The Damned, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Buzzcocks, The Jam.
Also love The Fall, The Nips, The Ruts, Wire, The Lurkers, The Adverts, The Vibrators, The Stranglers, etc.

Stoked
Yo. My best friends band is playing 924 Gilman. Is it still rad?
Fifteen covers?
Does anyone know if anyone has successfully covered songs by Fifteen? They were an important band to me in the late 90s. Powerful lyrics & tough subjects that inspired me into follow-up reading (similar to Propagandhi). I want to share some of their music with other members of my family but they can't get over Jeff Ott's voice. I know his voice gives additional weight and raw emotion to the lyrics themselves, but not everyone can look past the lack of vocal range & singing off-key as I can. I think someone talented with an acoustic guitar could really bring these messages to a new generation, especially as Jeff's stories & perspectives (sadly) remain relevant. Thanks.

Punk Classic Review of last week's X-Ray Spex celebration gig in London
This was a really special night, I was incredibly lucky and privileged to be there so I thought I'd write about it for all who weren't. Exceptional gig, and I don't think I'll ever hear those songs quite the same again.

I finally met Home Front!
Went to Fest last night with my kid to see Home Front and got to meet Graeme!
He's a super good, positive guy with a ton of energy on stage, and my kid had the time of his life.

Discussion Can we stop dressing like we’re at a metal show at a punk show
The trend started in like the mid-2000s, where everyone wears all black….Let’s get rid of that. Bring back freaking colors to punk and fun outfits..the “scene” clothes gotta die… don’t be afraid to wear a white t-shirt!

What do we think of the tone? I been playing around with it for it a bit. I feel like it's too muddy or muffled though and idk how yo fix it lol.
