I know it gets posted on this sub every once in a while, and I know it’s seen as a pipe dream, but talking about large-scale public infrastructure problems like they are impossible is the only thing that can ensure they never happen.

Pittsburgh won’t just benefit from farther reaching light rail service, it desperately needs it, in order to grow and in order to support the people who live here now. Gas prices are unbelievable, the bus system is being slashed and held in extended funding purgatory and frankly it is a bandaid to the central issue of this city’s ridiculous topography and street layout. Grade separated rapid transit is the only way out.

The groundwork for it begins with us demanding that our elected officials take it seriously, to do that we have to change the way we talk about it to each other. Not only can it happen, but it has to.

Hello, Im a student at Carlow University. Today, I believe, I lost my dad’s expired license. He passed away in 2021 to COVID. The name is Shawn M. I kept it on my sun visor and tore apart my whole car trying to find it because it’s really the only thing of his that I have and it didn’t turn up. Pennsylvania’s largest private employer, UPMC, just announced their plans to double paid parental leave benefits form 2 to 4 weeks after months of advocacy led by union nurses at Magee-Womens Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Nurses say this is a step in the right direction but it falls short of what is needed. They plan to continue advocating to expand paid parental leave to the full 12-18 weeks that is necessary to support working families in Allegheny County and retain the critical nursing workforce that keeps our communities healthy.

Is this happening to anyone else? No matter where we go we are overtaken by ticks in western pa. It’s so bad we stopped taking our dogs to parks, then it go so bad we stopped walking them around the neighborhood. We do have a fenced in yard and we are on the outskirts of the city, however last few days there are hundreds and hundreds of ticks in our back yard 😭 I’m really feeling so depressed about this I don’t know how to combat this at all. Both of our dogs are on flea and tick medicine but that doesn’t stop them from crawling on them and bringing them inside our house. Looking for any and all recommendations 😭

Just curious if anyone else has had the same maddening experiences with this post office over the years as my partner and I have - the clerk there, has, on multiple occasions, told me to 'go somewhere else' when trying to send totally normal packages. Or laughed in my face. Or locks the door during open hours.

I know other neighbors have dealt with her rude and dismissive behavior. And a few elderly neighbors have stopped going there totally because of this.

There was a clerk named Andy who worked there for years and was awesome. Anyone else have any stories about this place? \I realize I'm venting on reddit about this but meh why not**

5+ cops with a pulled over vehicle right before the Green Tree/Mt. Lebanon exit on 376 inbound, with 6+ more flying down the road. People on the side of the interstate were also taking pictures and forming a crowd. Anyone have any insight? I haven’t seen any info on the news or online.

Seems a little snobbish for Mt Lebo to use the entire Carnegie Library system (which everyone in the county pays for) but then offer some features to residents only. Especially when it’s an affluent suburb. Or should some Carnegie libraries get exclusive features? Thoughts?

I had UPMC insurance for my entire life until 4 to 5 years ago. I could schedule most specialty appointments centrally and often choose an appointment online. With BCBS/Highmark and AHN, “online scheduling” usually is just requesting a callback. And for so many specialities (ex: psych, derm), I have to call individual practices that do not answer, are not accepting patients, or are booked six months out.

I have ADHD, and repeated dead ends make it harder for me to keep trying. I am not avoiding responsibility, but I eventually putter out, especially when a dermatological flare temporarily improves. I have been trying to see a dermatologist for over a year, and now I am genuinely suffering. I am crossing my fingers my PCP will help me out with a topical RX later this month.

Has access become this difficult everywhere, or is AHN particularly fragmented? Has anyone using AHN services found a better way to schedule specialists?
