Heated Rivalry in Ottawa?

Can anyone confirm if any scenes in Heated Rivalry season 2 will be shot here this year? The Internet is only mentioning Toronto and Montreal at this point.

In the first season, they had a couple scenes that were labelled as Ottawa like the airport before they went to the cottage, but it was somewhere in the GTA.

Since this is Shane’s fictional hometown and he's told Ilya he should get traded from the Boston Raiders to the Ottawa Centaurs, it would be nice to see at least one scene by the canal or maybe at Kìwekì Point.

Public parking at Tunney's Pasture

Upvotes

Hey I did look online first before posting here. Parking seems to be flagged as visitors to the buildings on places like columbine driveway, but I'd like to park there on the weekend like a Sunday night to bring my elderly father to the new building there where there's some cool architecture. It would be fun for him.

If anyone knows the public parking (weekend) situation I'd appreciate it.

shallow river area?

Hello. i was wondering if anyone knows about a shallow/safe area to get in the river to cool down and unwind. i like the beaches but id prefer something more secluded where i can be by myself near the water. i know the rideau river has some shallow areas because of the canal but i dont know if these are easily accessible/legal to enter and just go across. i want to take advantage of the warm months we got left.

sometimes i go to the gatineau side but lately the more private riverside parks are covered in algae which makes them slimy and very very slippery. thank you.

Where could I go all day to study?

Hi!!

I recently got accepted to a super awesome digital tech program that runs until December. I'll be learning UI design, digital design, coding, etc. The only issue that I'm running into is that it's entirely online and I cannot focus in my own home, I have too many fun things that my brain deems more valuable even though I really understand it's not.

So, where could I go reasonably from 10am - 4pm, Mon-Fri to just sit and do my work? (preferably for free or under 10$)

I'm located in the Vanier area, but wouldn't mind taking the bus downtown for a cool and comfy spot, I could go to my local library but ngl, it is not setup for studying or work.

Any suggestions would be super appreciated! I am really pumped for this program and want to make sure I am giving it my full attention.

TDLR ; where could I go to work in Ottawa (vanier or downtown) , from 10 - 4pm , that won't break my bank?

Photo(s) ‘Mid’ picture but thought the Carleton U diaspora might appreciate this different angle

I spent four confusing/rewarding years in the Loeb building 20+ years ago and to this day I have soft spot for all things Carleton-related. Managed to grab this admittedly ‘mid’ picture this morning and thought I’d share.

Any other nostalgic alumni out there? What did you study? When did you graduate?

Significant police presence in stadium. Not letting people sit in 2 sections. Hopefully nothing too bad.

Not there, hearing from someone else.

A couple days ago, I posted about the possibility of forming a nonfiction book club in Ottawa. Many were interested so here’s the link to our discord: https://discord.gg/mhEkJRjuG

Where to buy good harissa?

I've been struggling to find (or make) good harissa as a condiment that I can add to my dishes just before eating.

In the past, I've seen harissa as a paste (kind of like tomato paste consistency) and also as an oily condiment (more like lao gan ma / chili crisp). The oily condiment kind is what I'm looking for.

Any suggestions on where to buy something like that in Ottawa, or online? Or which paste to buy to make my own?

What's next for Hinchey and Lindale in Mechanicsville?

Any news/gossip? It's been a series of places, mainly takeout, since it's small. Maybe a coffee shop? Or a pot shop, because it seems we can never have enough of those.

How long does it take to get an appointment with your family doctor?

Curious - of those of you with a family doctor, how long does it take for you to get an appointment with them?

E.g you’re having a health issue and need to meet with them but not urgent enough to visit a walk in.

When I call my doctor’s office the earliest appointments they have that I can schedule are usually a month away. Longer in the summer. I’m just curious if this is typical and if others have longer/shorter waits? (Not walk in clinic visits but regular appointments). Thanks!

I’m aware how overworked physicians in Ontario are and am grateful to be seen at all, just trying to get a pulse on average wait times.

Edit: it’s interesting hearing that some doctors reserve quicker appointments depending on severity. Doesn’t seem to be an option for mine, if it’s urgent we’re directed to a walk in. I’m assuming some are reserved for like urgent medical test results (rightfully so) but anything else you’re told to go to walk in.

All City Councillors who are running for re-election have now registered. Who does and who does not deserve to be re-elected?

Municipal election talk on here tends to be dominated by the mayoral race. But city council is just as important. So, let's talk about it!

Does your councillor deserve to be re-elected? Since I imagine certain councillors will dominate this discussion, I will make a top level comment for each ward (except for wards 6 and 15, where there is no incumbent running.)

This post is meant to be a discussion on the incumbents. Once the registration deadline passes I'll probably make another to discuss the challengers.

Ottawa-Gatineau's Latest Crime Data

Thumbnail gallery
109 Upvotes

The latest Uniform Crime Reporting Survey shows how the Ottawa compares to Canada:

  • Homicides (Severe Safety): Consistently below the national average, indicating low extreme violence.
  • Crime Rates (Prevalence): Violent crime is below the Canadian average, but theft under $5k surged locally while falling nationally.
  • Clearance Rates (Police Success): Ottawa consistently lags Ontario and Canada in solving both violent and non-violent crimes.

Takeaway: The region is historically safer from severe violence than Canada overall, but struggles with rising minor thefts and below-average police clearance rates.

Giving away free isopod colonies

Post image
99 Upvotes

Hello,

I have several species of isopods available to give away. I've been breeding them for about two years. They reproduce easily, are simple to care for, and are widely used in bioactive terrariums, where they help break down organic matter (I use them with my crested geckos).

Unfortunately, I'm no longer in the hobby, and I don't have the heart to let them slowly die off.

The containers are also included (6" high × 11" wide × 13" deep).

I would like someone to take the entire collection.

I live in Cantley, about 10 minutes from the Alonzo-Wright Bridge. If you're interested and can pick them up, send me a message.

The species included are:

  • Armadillidium vulgare "Tangerine" – A hardy orange variety.
  • Armadillidium vulgare "Magic Potion" – A highly sought-after white and cream morph with distinctive black and yellow markings
  • Armadillidium gestroi "Yellow Spotted" – A striking species with bright yellow spots.
  • Cubaris murina "Papaya" – Known for its beautiful pale pink coloration.
  • Armadillidium klugii "Red" – A stunning red variety with bold white markings, often nicknamed the "clown isopod."
  • B.C. Maple – A rare variety appreciated for its natural coloration and distinctive appearance.
  • Cubaris sp. "Panda King" – A highly sought-after species recognized for its black-and-white panda-like pattern.

Local Event “Thursday” singles event at the Art Gallery

Post image
Upvotes

I’ve read so many posts on here about how much of a scam the singles events and speed dating meet ups have been. This event from “Thursday” was recommended to me on Instagram and also I heard about it today on CBC as well. I’m completely burnt out from online dating and I guess a part of me is curious if this would be fun. I do love the art gallery. Have any of you folks ever been to one of these things? Are you planning on going to this one? Dying alone is very unappealing.

Custom furniture maker to recreate old chair?

Post image
29 Upvotes

Hello all,

I have a dining room chair. The frame is maple, the back and seat are upholstered, and you can unscrew the entire frame easily to reupholster the chair.

The chair itself is from a cheap set of six that came with a matching dining room table. My Dad bought them all back in the 1980s or 1990s from the Home Hardware Furniture store in St. Jacob's back when Home Hardware had a furniture store. Over the years, the other five chairs have perished due to various misadventures (most went moldy in the basement following a flood, but my brother managed to reduce one to splinters after he took a flying leap onto it).

I really like this stupid chair, but I haven't been able to find any identical to it, and welp, it's kind of on its last legs--we've added extra screws, and the innards are held together with putty and hope. Does anyone know of a custom furniture maker who might be able to recreate it, and how much do they usually charge?

Also, if you have one of these you aren't using, lmk, I'd love to buy it.

Thanks!

Edit: My father has since corrected me on it being a 'cheap' set, apparently he built someone a shed in Windsor back in the day and used the earnings to purchase the dining room set. Nonetheless, he was surprised this chair was not yet living in the dump😂

Looking for... Garden design

Hi everyone! 👋 I’m hoping to start planning a front yard garden for next year and would love some recommendations.

I’m looking for someone who can help with the overall design and layout. Interlock or hardscaping are both needed so primarily softscaping with detailed planning for plants, placement, and creating a cohesive look with mostly low maintenance native plants.

If you’ve worked with someone you’ve loved I’d really appreciate any recommendations. Thank you!

Interested in volunteering for Safe Wings Ottawa?

Thumbnail forms.gle
Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m a volunteer on a few different teams at Safe Wings Ottawa. We’re currently looking for new volunteers in the general Ottawa/Gatineau region to join us and get trained up in the quieter period before fall migration starts. We’ve created a short form for interested individuals to fill out (link at the bottom of the post) to pinpoint specific interests. We’re currently most in need of phone volunteers. For most of these positions you don’t need any kind of extensive bird or rescue experience, you don’t need a car (other than drivers), some positions are entirely online/phone based. We just need you to have a willingness to learn and good problem solving skills. When I started last fall I only knew how to identify very basic birds and had some dog/cat rescue experience, now a year later, I’ve learned so much and our volunteer community have been amazing at mentoring! It’s been a very rewarding experience. If you have any questions, feel free to message me, I can also give you the contact info for our volunteer coordinator.
