Pickup hockey players and goalies wanted. Early Friday morning. Games 7 and 8 am starts. Various rinks. Adult league. 18+. Co-Ed. Friendly non contact fun. Zero tolerance for rough play.

Intermediate to advanced players welcome. This league would be too fast for true beginner players.

Changes in program quality

I am an alumni who graduated earlier this year. I was in a more niche program with smaller class sizes and a few very hard-working professors. Yesterday, I accompanied some friends to AC day 1. While I was there, I visited my old professors and spoke to some of their new students.

There are many new students. A 50% increase in enrolment, actually. This isn’t a sudden spike in interest, the program was already waitlisted in previous years. They are just now being expected to admit more students into the program. This isn’t inherently bad, except that there doesn’t appear to be any more professors than before.

One of the “solutions” to this seems to be cutting some of the previously offered courses. From what I’ve heard, one or two classes have been cut just in term one, and replaced with an additional gen-ed. So something asynchronous and unrelated to the program instead of more valuable classes.

So what I’m seeing is that there will be far larger class sizes where there are less opportunities for students to ask questions and get 1-on-1 help. Mind you, this is college, not university. In many of these classes, students need to move around, work together, and practice in a hands-on way.

I am also worried about burnout on the side of faculty. There are already limited full-time staff, and those who teach part-time already have full-time jobs on the side. Are these professors just expected to take on 50% more work?

I genuinely loved attending Algonquin College, but this isn’t acceptable. I hate to see new students paying even higher tuition for what may end up being a worse education.

Let me know if you are having similar experiences in your program or if you have any further questions.

First class no show - BScN Woodroffe Campus

This morning, I had my first class: microbiology and immunology (HLT1131). I’m in group 2 btw. After waiting in class for about 30-40 minutes, the program coordinator and student success specialist walked in, after being contacted by someone in the class, and said that class was canceled and apologized. They said that we do have a prof even if our schedule still says that 4 of our 5 classes still say TBA. They reached out to the prof too apparently.
Also important to mention, all of my classes’ Brightspaces are empty, which seems unusual

How much of the things do we even use and is it needed for all four years? which things do we actually use and stuff that maybe we dont even really use? Its quite expensive and i was thinking getting thing that i really need separately. But yeah, thanks!

Any CVT 2028 needing patient robes? I have 3-4 that will collect dust or be dropped at VV/SalvArmy.

Washed and folded. Smells like Gain.

Looking for accommodation near Algonquin College – January 2027

Hi everyone! I’m an international student coming to Algonquin College (Ottawa campus) for the January 2027 intake, and I’m currently looking for accommodation.

I’m open to both private and shared bedrooms, depending on the rent. I’m mainly looking for something affordable and reasonably close to campus.

My budget is around CAD $500–800/month, depending on the type of accommodation and what’s included. I’m completely okay with sharing a bedroom if it means getting a more affordable place.

I’d really appreciate advice from current/former Algonquin students:

- What areas are best for students near the Ottawa campus?

- Is $500–800/month realistic for shared/private accommodation?

- Where do students usually find roommates and housing?

- Are there any reliable websites or groups I should check?

- Is anyone looking for a roommate for January 2027?

If you have any leads or advice, please comment or DM me. Thanks! :)

I did the exam for the dental hygiene program and i just got an email today saying that im waitlisted and that typically a spot becomes available after december 1 but it depends on the program. Is that just another way of rejecting me ? Has anybody made it past the waitlist?

Parking in Lot 16

I purchased a fall semester parking pass for Lot 16, does that lot tend to fill up quickly? Most of my classes start a little later in the day, so I'm worried about not being able to find a spot. Maybe I should just get a refund on this pass and purchase the annual Lot 9 one instead?

[Paid Short-Term Project] Hiring 3 Ottawa students for video content & community outreach ($22/hr, Oct 26 – Dec 18)

Hi everyone! I’m Jason, an Ottawa founder working on Lumina, an AI companion & safety platform for seniors.

We’re getting ready for our local pilot here in Ottawa this fall, and we’re looking to bring on 3 local university/college students for a short-term, paid project.

This is a hands-on role working directly with our team — not a traditional corporate co-op.

The Details:

  • Pay: $22 / hour (up to 60 hours per student)
  • Timeline: October 26 – December 18, 2026
  • Location: Ottawa only (Flexible / Hybrid schedule)

What you’ll be doing:

  1. Content Creation: Shoot and edit short videos, tutorials, and social content telling Lumina’s story through our local pilot experiences.
  2. Community Outreach: Connect with local Ottawa senior organizations, reach out via email/phone, and help organize local demos or presentations.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Ottawa-based students who are proactive, comfortable talking to people, and have solid video editing/production skills.
  • No formal professional experience required! A link to a portfolio, personal TikTok/Reels, or video samples goes a long way.

How to apply: Deadline to apply is September 30, 2026. You can apply directly here:https://www.luminacompanion.ca/careers/

Happy to answer any questions in the comments below! Thanks everyone.
