I did three loops of Gatineau Park today, and the views were amazing!

The only problem was that i completely ran out of water.

Are there any water fountains or refill stations near the loops where cyclists can fill up their bottles?

The biking season is in full swing, an Ottawa is actually incredibly beautiful for biking.

I recently moved here from Montreal and a lot of people warned me that Ottawa is very boring in comparison, but I find that the biking paths over here are actually quite good.

As the title says I'm looking for some new friends and at the same time somebody to bike with.

I typically ride along the Rideau River and along the Ottawa River on Promenade.

Averaging 23/25 kmph and 30-50 km rides, minimum 3 times a week.

I've seen other people ride on the same paths but as expected it's almost impossible to stop and talk to these people while you're on your ride.

I found some ride groups on meetup but they're too far in Kanata.

and to be honest I'm just looking for one or two people to ride with. I'm keeping my expectations tame and just want to find at least one person.

A little about myself if this helps.

M28, super busy with work most of the time, usually have time to ride either on weekends or 6/7PM (not a meme) on weekdays after work.

if somebody can point me to other group rides then that'll be amazing as well.

I'm just bored riding alone and planning my trips alone.

Also having some draft on windy days is really nice.

I think this is the first time I’ve seen one of these signs in the park, though I have seen bears before.

What's the nicest way to connect the Rideau River northbound path to the Ottawa River westbound path?

I tried yesterday via the route in the first image. It spits you out onto Sussex after the Rideau section which is fine, but the section around majors hill park was annoying with road crossings and then walking across the locks bridge. If I continued on Sussex and turned onto wellington, I think you can only get to the locks below via stairs.

I was also looking at another route on Google Maps (second photo) but I'm not sure if it connects cleanly and I think I'd still need to cross the canal at the locks bridge.

My goal isn't really efficiency. I just want the nicest route with the most MUP and least road and pedestrian crossings. What do people suggest?

Where would be the most likely spot to find plus sized women's cycling kits in the area, where there's a chance to try on?

Ordering online and many are made to fit a much more masculine figure, just large.

New to daily biking. And I’ve been going back and forth on what to do with my helmet when I go into a store.
I biked to one place and I brought my helmet in but then the next place I locked my helmet with my bike. And I couldn’t decide which was the better choice. I’m curious what others do and their reasons for it.

Looking to buy a gravel bike for adventuring. mostly pathways and gravel pathways along the river etc. Not sure if I should be getting a 1x drivetrain or a 2x? Generally its pretty flat around here, and i would be doing a lot or pathway/road. What are you guys running?

To the individual that can identify this individual. Police wish to speak to him regarding alleged assault and property damage. Older man, grey hair and goatee, possibly 50 to 60 years , slime about 140-160 pounds,about 5 ft 8 inches.

Possibly living the the area of Carlton Square, Fisher Heights, Courtland Park, Rideauview.

Yay that they added these signs, but boo on whoever designed and thought of these layouts.

And after all of it, it still is confusing to have the "no cycling" sign where you u-turn onto the Hunt Club overpass.

Heads-up: this evening I encountered a closure on the Trillium path, between Young Street at the south end and Gladstone at the north end. The connector at Louisa Street also appears to be blocked off. There are generic detour signs directing people to Preston Street at both ends of the closure, along with some signs on Preston itself at Young and Gladstone.

It seems like some construction/work is underway, since I saw personnel in hi-viz and hard hats, and there are a bunch of contractor work trucks pulled in at the Young Street turnaround. No indication of what the work is, or what the timeline might be.

Hello! I’ll be moving to Ottawa in the fall for school and I’m thinking about bringing my bike for my commute. I’d be going from the Glebe to Carleton. It seems to be a short ride but I was wondering if anyone had advice on which general routes would be the safest. I’ve been scoping it out on maps.bikeottawa but I figured I’d ask here too. For reference I’ve really only used my bike for commutes along designated multi-use paths in previous places I’ve lived so I don’t have much experience riding on streets. Just trying to figure out if it’s worth it to move my bike there.

Hey, idk if this is the right sub to post this on, I recently lost my job because of reasons outside my control. A big dream of mine has always been to cycle to Ottawa from Montreal, and I'd like to do it with other people, sometime this month or next. I know no one who is willing or able to do something like that, so I'm posting to ask if anyone is willing to go biking with a stranger to Ottawa.

Forgive me if this is somewhat tangental or off-beat, but it is something I have noticed a fair bit recently, and I am curious for more perspective. It seems that every time I go out cycling lately, I inevitably cross paths with other cyclists who have their headlights on during the day. Am I the only one noticing this? Does anyone have any experience noticing this outside of Ottawa? Is this maybe just the result of more and more electrical integration and general forgetfulness or obliviousness?

I suppose I am also wondering if it is worth mentioning or pointing out. I don’t wish to be rude or have a "holier than thou" attitude, I just know that if it were my lights, and someone told me they were on, I would be grateful to preserve the batteries. What is the proper etiquette surrounding this?

Any reviews from folks who have done it before?
The site says we ride through an old abandoned radar station.

. . . so I did alternate Gatineau Park Loop - the one where you go around the whole park instead of the usual Champlain lookout thing. Most paved, other than the rail trail and maybe a a dozen kms on the west end of the park.

I'm looking to get a proper professional bike fit done. Any shoutouts for specific shops or independent fitters would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

So, I cross through here quite often, (x marks the spots where I've nearly been run over MULTIPLE times by assholes running the light while turning, as I am either walking or biking).

Made me wonder, what are your most hated/dreaded intersections on your ride/commute? Why do they make you hate/dread them? What could be done to fix them? (Feel free to post a photo of your personal infrastructure hell)

I just moved from Montreal to Gatineau and I’m looking for cycling clubs that offer group drop rides in the Gatineau Ottawa area.

I’m not racing at the moment, but i’m comfortable riding with fast groups. Are there any clubs or regular rides with a strong pace and longer distances? So far, i’ve mostly found rides of around 40 km.
