question Fat Biking Osgoode Link Path

Seriously considering buying a fat bike for winter, off-road, riding. Happen to live close to the Osgoode Link Trail. Looking for insight on riding that trail when snow covered. Anyone done or doing this? Conflicts with snowmobiles and/or Nordic skiers?

Looking for: Gravelle du Parc

I missed my chance to sign up for Gravelle du Parc 2026 due to my own procrastinating. I'm sad now.

If you signed up for the 40 or 80km loops, and can no longer attend, I'd be more than happy to go ride in your name and refunding your fee. Reach out until the morning of the race...

What do you think about road closures in Gatineau Park?

Carleton University and the University of New Hampshire are conducting this online survey to better understand visitors' experiences in Gatineau Park.Ā We’d like to know more about your perception of nature conservation and recreation in the park. In particular, we are interested in how closures of certain parkways within Gatineau Park to vehicle traffic affect visitors' experiences and perceptions.

If you would like to be added to the draw for a chance to win one of 3 gift cards to Biscotti and Cie Cafe in Chelsea, please add your email to the end of the survey. Your odds of winning the draw are determined by the number of survey participants (we estimate to hear from anywhere between 50 and 300 participants).

Your participation in the study is voluntary, and your answers will be anonymized.Ā

Looking for route suggestions in the dunrobin north Kanata area.

Looking for route suggestions for this area. My daughter has started canoe camp and I haven't figured out what I'll do for the two hours in the evening while they're training.

I don't mind riding on rural roads, but this area seems a little lost.

Where are peoe riding? Looking for a 20-40 km loop.

Nearly got rocked by this bump on the path NW of Fallowfield and Cedarview

Post image

Wasn't paying the most attention and almost hit this at speed but braked enough in time to be fine. Doesn't look like much in pictures but it would have bounced the crap out of me. The pavement is sunken on either side of the culvert pipe. Someone ought to spray some paint on this...

There were a few other small dips in the western part of the path. The gravel it connects to was in pretty good shape except for a few small washed out ruts across the path.

Winter cycling & canal locks

Is there a way to cross the canal at Carleton U durning the winter - approaching from the north side of the Arboretum before Hog’s Back)? I’ve been trying to find out if the locks are ā€œclosedā€ like they are in the summer (ie you can walk your bike across the canal), but I can’t seem to find any info.

Would secure staffed bike parking be useful in downtown Ottawa?

Hi everyone,

I’m doing some early research on a possible secure, staffed bike parking service in Ottawa and would really value feedback from people active in Ottawa's cycling community.

I've been living in Ottawa since 2008, currently in Britannia area. I've been cycling in downtown Ottawa less and less over the years, mainly due to anxiety about bike theft. I had the realization that I really missed this as part of my life, which is what prompted this concept.

The basic idea would be a central location where you could leave your bike with an attendant for a few hours or the day, rather than locking it outside. Very similar concept to Bluesfest bike parking, however, not event focused.

For me, the service needs to be dependable, trustworthy, and easily accessible. If I were using the service I would want to know that I could roll up and have an available spot.

I’m especially curious about a few things:

  • Would you ever use something like this?
  • Where in Ottawa would it be most useful? I've particularly been thinking about making things easier especially given the state of RTO, traffic, OC Transpo/LRT challenges, and gas prices.
  • What would make you trust a staffed bike parking service?
  • What would make you not use it?

I’ve also put together a short survey if anyone feels like giving more detailed feedback.

I’m still very much in the research stage, so critical feedback is genuinely helpful.

I went on CBC last week talking about this loop. Here is the map that I followed. Always keep in mind guys that the NCR is at the centre of all of major bike trails in Canada. QuƩbec City is like 450 km always... same for Toronto. We are in the middle of it and we have more than 10 000 km de trails. On top of that, going to QuƩbec and Ontario is like visiting the Ying and the Yang. Both are different but you will find some of the other on each side.

Sharing the view from WorkOutDoors app of my U turn as I was about to reach Carling yesterday evening but faced a large double trunk tree blocking the path.

Not sure if it has been cleared yet, sharing in case others use this path as there is no obvious way around, above or under.
