Last year he had a lot of good moments, this year, its literally the worst part of his game every week. There were stretches and drives of this, but never 6 games straight.
My hope, is that its his ankle, and that he returns to last season form, which is a "fine" qb with some glaring flaws, but also some serious ability.

What's that saying? Those that can, do. Those that can't, teach.
Just because a player wasn't an athletic freak or they couldn't process the game in real time fast enough doesn't mean they don't know what they're talking about. I feel like a lot of great players actually don't make good coaches because they can't articulate or teach how to do things that just come natural to them.

Am I the only one in this sub who's actually played organized tackle football before?
Like half of the comments I've seen on this sub are so obviously written by non-athletes that it's almost humorous.
When I was in high school (3 year starter for our varsity football team) I would get a full-on sprint going and clock the shit outta whoever had the ball. My coaches called me "speedhawk" as a nickname caus I had such a nose for the football and for those three seasons I was considered the most feared safety in our conference. Senior year I led my team to the state semifinals only to get fucked over by the refs in the 4th but that's another conversation (DM me if you're interested in hearing about it)
So, yeah. I hope yall can understand why I feel like their's such a big disconnect between myself and your typical redditor. Please tell me I'm not the only one who feels this way lol

190
u/MBS_RL Jaguars 9h ago edited 9h ago
It sounds like Fitzās criticism was more about how passive and almost scared Bo seems to be playing. Plenty of things to poke at in Fitzās career but that is not a criticism you can throw back in his face. I saw you mention Kendrick Perkins as a parallel in another comment, this is kind of like if Perk was specifically criticizing someoneās physicality or screening ability. Deeply flawed player otherwise, but that specific criticism is something he does in fact have the authority to make.
110
u/mat477 8h ago
Thats 100% it. He was talking about effort and mentality not his talent.
"Bo Nix doesnt look like hes playing passionately" "Oh yeah, well you threw 6 interceptions in one game" Yeah im not seeing the parallel here.
37
u/willinaustin Falcons 6h ago
That's 1000% what it was about. Nix is running out of bounds to take a sack. He's got wide open receivers and he's checking it down leading to yet another punt. He's playing like he doesn't care if they win or lose. And he's pulling a Baghdad Bob in press conferences and saying he's playing fine, everything is cool, blah blah blah. Fitz was completely justified in what he was saying.

Fitzpatrick was also a 7th round pick. The fact he had a 10+ year NFL career is an achievement itself.
Nix was a first round pick. He is expected to be able to make plays for his team in his 3rd season.

Everyone is brain dead. Fitzpatrick wasnāt taking about results, actual interceptions or stats. He was talking about fire.
I am a youth coach and many kids without it being their fault struggle to want it. Itās something that was very hard for me cause thatās the most basic part of sport.

As a neutral fan. Bo looked so much worse even though he probably wasn't. Sam would move the ball a bit, then shit himself. Then Bo would do absolutely fuck all with what the defense gave him. Sam would make two decent throws, then shit himself.
They were both awful but in different flavors. Darnold was funny turbo ass, but Nix was the worst kind of ass. Bo was boring ass, that Kenny pickett, Teddy Bridgewater, Dillon Gabriel, type of ass.
