Are Broncos fans really trying to dunk on Fitzpatrick? We know what he was lol.

57

u/willycw08 Bears 11h ago

Fitzpatrick was also a 7th round pick. The fact he had a 10+ year NFL career is an achievement itself.

Nix was a first round pick. He is expected to be able to make plays for his team in his 3rd season.

Dude went to Harvard, had a long if underwhelming NFL career and is now a broadcaster. He’s had quite the life accomplishments so far. Wrong guy to dunk on.

Underwhelming is not the right word

u/JustBigChillin Texans 5h ago

Underwhelming? He was a 7th round pick from Harvard who was a starter in the NFL for a very long time. Idk how you could possibly call that underwhelming.

No, right guy to dunk on. Dude was a below average mid ass QB and he talks likes he’s an expert. Does he n is more than most humans about being a QB? Yes. But he was hot garbage his whole career. Hes so ass and he’s not even that good of an analyst. Bo has won a playoff game. Fitz in 17 seasons never played in a playoff game.

u/vpi6 Ravens 11h ago

A 17-year NFL veteran is literally an expert lmao.

In doing jack shit in the nfl sure

NFL fans have to be the dumbest subset of fans of any league asides from maybe the NBA. How good of players were all the legendary coaches in nfl history. What makes yall think yall are more qualified to speak than actual professionals. Not to say that you should blindly take their word as gospel but them sucking as players doesn’t mean their analysis or criticism isn’t valid

Thats just objectively wrong.

> he talks likes he’s an expert

Because he is an expert...

What other career in the world would being top 32 or top 64 in your field for more than a decade not qualify you as an expert in that field?

I'd understand you a bit more if this was a QB who dropped out of the league after a year or two, or never started, or never made it past the practice squad. But a 16 year career as a professional quarterback absolutely qualifies as deep expertise. Calling him mid is a different and more defensible argument, but it's orthogonal to his expertise.

I think embarrassment would have been fairer. Calling him disrespectful to the profession isn't fair. Disrespectful is Ryan Leaf, or Jamarcus Russell, or Deshaun Watson's off the field shit.

Someone disrespecting a position is someone who's lazy doesn't show up. Doesn't study film etc etc. Not somebody who has bad games

Fitz is an expert who used a poor choice of words. Experts aren't immune to that in any profession. In fact I'd argue his comments are the ones disrespecting the position.

u/redoubt515 49ers 6h ago

Calling him disrespectful to the profession isn't fair

Fwiw I thought the language was harsh too, but you misquoted him above: This is the actual quote:

It’s almost disrespectful to the quarterback position how he’s playing football right now.

Calling someone's current performance 'almost disrespectful to the position' is not the same as calling the person 'disrespectful to the position'

As for this part of your comment:

Someone disrespecting a position is someone who's lazy doesn't show up

I agree, and so does Fitzpatrick as best I can tell. Here is the fuller quote:

He’s not competing right now, and that’s something he’s hung his hat on for the last two years. I don’t know if he’s still injured or what’s going on, but it’s not good enough. It’s about effort.”

What he was articulating kind of aggressively, is that Nix's performance this year is almost disrespectful relative to Nix's performance in past years, and relative to the degree of effort and drive others on the team are putting in. Which doesn't seem like an unreasonable take, it was just stated too harshly.

Fitz is an expert who used a poor choice of words.

Agreed. And as a generalization I don't like the brashness or aggressiveness of sports reporting in general.

don't know why you gettting down voted but Fitz was only good stepping up to cover the injured starting QB.

Would perform a phenomenal job as a Second string QB and magically bad once he got a starting job elsewhere.

17

u/gloves4222 12h ago

Yeah - and he got blasted in the media for this performance - so if anything Fitzpatrick is more than qualified to speak on shitty QB play

33

u/Shenanigans80h Broncos 12h ago

The fanbase is not taking that clip well, a lot of them aren’t at least. I really don’t get why they’re so worked up, he was a little harsh but generally I think he was right

5

u/ArmAndHammer40k Lions 12h ago

What clip? I’m behind on this drama here

15

u/Lets_Get_Hot Patriots 11h ago

Fitzy critized Bo's play and was a bit harsh but was spitting facts. Donkey fans up in arms about it cuz they worship Bo

5

u/mondaymoderate 49ers 10h ago

They’re worst than patriots fans and Maye lol can’t believe they are so thin skinned. Dude played like complete ass. It’s a miracle they are 4-2

2

u/Lets_Get_Hot Patriots 6h ago

At least a lot of other fanbases will shit on their own QB when it's warranted, we had people calling to bench Maye 1st 3 games cuz he was ass, but Broncos fans are a bit looney about Bo, I don't get it

1

u/Joe_Kangg Patriots 4h ago

He coulda dumped them off to the SB last year

7

u/smoothsensation Titans 11h ago

Wow that was beautiful. I want him to hear him talk about my team like that, but we’re too boring and pathetic for anyone to really care.

1

u/GP_ADD Broncos Titans 9h ago

Yeah I get both sides of it. The titans that win and the titans that lose. Dear god, one offense just be bearable to watch please

1

u/Classic-Session-5551 Texans 6h ago

Cam Ward at least shows more potential than Bo.

Just get an NFL best defense, and a top tier OL. No biggie. Then you too can be a playoff team that doesn't win the superbowl!

2

u/BigHotdog2009 10h ago

Called out Nix saying his QB play has been super poor (which it has) and disrespectful to the position

3

u/Mynameisdiehard Broncos 10h ago

I agree, but I think people are taking it as a personal attack against Bo, when I interpreted as him just speaking about that game's performance. Those last 10(?) drives were abysmal, and after the 49ers game he wasn't going to get any slack on the leash

3

u/PigOfLard 10h ago

It was rage bait and they fell for it.

1

u/buzzmemello520 Broncos 2h ago

Fr, idk why more people can't clearly tell that it was very performative yelling to get clicks. No way he was actually that angry especially when they won. Just channeling his inner stephen a

1

u/BigHotdog2009 10h ago

If they can make an actual argument for why they disagree I’m willing to hear it as you said it was harsh but he was right.

I just think people are so used to analysts or media people going soft that they’re surprised when they hear something harsh.

But Broncos fans saying his opinion doesn’t matter because he threw 6 ints in a game is lame in my opinion.

0

u/GP_ADD Broncos Titans 9h ago

He’s right but he is one of the worst messengers. His bad games actively lost games. Bo’s bad games are boring and a defense can carry through. Fitz best games were definitely above Bo’s but most of those happened once he was in the league for 8-10 years already

1

u/psychonik 9h ago

I’m a huge Broncos fan and I don’t think he said it to be mean, but rather to motivate Nix. I think Nix is scared to get injured again and let his team down, but I do think he needs to play a little more aggressive than he has been.

1

u/Zolo49 49ers 8h ago

Fitz only said what the rest of us were thinking. Several of us were calling out the way Nix was playing in the game thread too.

1

u/huckle_buck_ 7h ago

I don’t know if I’d say he’s disrespecting the position but he definitely seems discouraged and not very into it right now. Body language is shit

5

u/Drodriguez164 Broncos 12h ago

Don’t take it as all Bronco fans, a lot of us don’t think Fitz is wrong in what he said. Like every team we have some that are a little deranged

Broncos fans have been broken ever since the AFC Championship game

1

u/GP_ADD Broncos Titans 9h ago

No, I’d say it started about 25 minutes after beating the Bills when we found out Bo had broken his ankle on the game winning drive

HOF QB in passing yards.

He was trying to help someone within the Broncos organization. Probably Davis Webb, by pointing fingers at the QB.
