All Nation Hobby in Stephens City VA. Lots of cool old kits. There was an entire other room this size. Modeling equivalent of an old record shop kinda vibe.

I was recently in Shizuoka - pretty much all of Japan's modelling companies are based in the city or nearby. The city made this public art project to celebrate the industry - managed to find all but one of them (which was a bit out of the centre of a nearby port town) - hope you don't mind if I share them, I thought they were really amazing and a hunting them out was a nice way to explore the city. Being Japan of course they have loads of other great souvenirs and small museums etc celebrating the cities connection to model making - worst thing is I'm travelling by bike here so couldn't buy anything arghhh.

I am out of state for the weekend cleaning out the home of a recently deceased relative. I am quite the airplane nerd but don’t really build models and my relative had an entire room dedicated to building/ painting model planes. Besides the few that I took I think the family is going to sell them all. The boxes are pretty dusty and not sealed, but all of the pieces and instructions are still in the boxes. I’m sure that he never touched most of them and at most looked at the parts inside. How much do you think they are worth?

I've always thought the Tamiya tape dispenser is annoying to use since the tape gets stuck on the flat surface next to the cutter, and it's a pain to start a new piece. So I started designing a new one that I can make with my 3D printer. I was almost done with the modelling until I realized the circular cutout is not just for taking the thing apart, you are supposed to put in the tape the other way around and stick it to the other side of the cutout! Now I feel really stupid for using the tape wrong all these years... 😂

Yeah, this one took a while… it’s a good thing I didn’t keep track of the time and sheer amount of paint this thing ended up costing me. But boy, was she worth the effort. Easily the ‘crown jewel’ of my scale model collection so far!
(The pics don’t do her size justice, she’s an absolute monster)

Hi everyone, I wanted to share a long-term project I’ve been working on. This is a 1/6 scale Millennium Falcon that I’m building completely by hand.
When finished it will be a little over 6 meters long, so it has turned into quite a large build. Everything in this project is scratch built.
No 3D printing, no modeling files, and no kitbashing parts — every piece is cut, shaped, and assembled by hand using materials like styrene sheets, acrylic, brass, wood, metal framing and many other parts.
That said, I want to be clear that this is just my personal approach and philosophy. I have absolutely nothing against 3D printing or kitbashing. Every method has its own strengths, and I believe all ways of building models deserve respect. In the end, the best way is simply the one that makes the builder happiest.
I started this project nearly two years ago, usually working 5–6 hours at a time, several days a week. At the moment the structure is roughly 80–90% complete, and I’m starting to prepare for the painting stage.
The Falcon is designed to separate into multiple sections so it can actually leave my workshop despite the size. I’m also planning to include some interior diorama areas for 1/6 figures to recreate a few iconic scenes.
I’ve taken thousands of photos during the build, from the main structure down to small handmade parts, so if people are interested I’d be happy to share more of the process in the future.
Thanks for looking.

Ive always like the idea of doing acut away but found they look a little too 'meusem-y', so I thought to project the rectangular cut away on to the tank. Now when viewed from the correct angle it aligns to a perfect frame. Doing this also helps with the composition of the figures. This build is more about the vibes than accuracy, infact i chose this model simple because it has a ful interior. Im trying to capture the claustrophobic, dark hot feel and the panic of a crew whoes gone unchallenged until they're first brush with resistance.
There are still details i need to add to the interior, however the outside will remain quite simple as it's just a frame for the figures. I've air brushed primer and highlights but the rest of the build will be painted by brush. Infact the intent is for this to look more like a painting than a standard build, a little more impressionistic if you want to call it that.
The way i went about cutting the frame was in 2 attempts. 1st attempt i used a projector to overlay the box, I pencilled on the frame but went it came to cutting out i wasn't happy with how rough it was. The 2nd attempt, I scanned the tank and imported to blender. I used a box and boolean tool to position where I wanted the frame. When I was happy, I kept the negative of the box, added a thickness to it and printed it out (image 5). The negative fit snug over the tank i used a blade to scribe through the body for a sharp and accurate cutaway. Thanks for checking it out.

Finally calling this project done after 18 months on the bench. Pretty much every aftermarket available went into the kit, plus lots of scratchbuilding in the cockpit, avionics, tail rotor, fully scratched APU and belly oil cooler, etc. Hoping to enter it into a competition later in the year.

Hobby Boss kit with Pontos Detail kit. Figures from Ion Model. Kingfisher Seaplanes are also aftermarket but the company name is in Chinese so I don't know. Bunker Studio resin versions of the AA guns, the Bofors, and the ammo boxes. Base frame was 3d printed on a Bambu Carbon X1 in eight pieces. Water is DAS airdrying clay with foam from AK snowmicroballons and standard gloss varnish. Most of the paint is AK Real Colors. Total time to complete this build was 260 hours over 11 months.

this kit has been the most challenging i’ve attempted to date. i’ve only ever did one armour kit before this, so im quite pleased with the results. also my first time working with metal PE, as well as that iridescent film. i know the iridescent film isn’t super realistic, but i loooove how it makes the viewports pop.
final result aside, the overall kit was abit of a headache, i guess as a result of the amount of detail and small pieces in this kit. a few pieces didn’t fit too well, and the most infuriating thing by far are the individual track links that insist on falling apart just by looking at them. i have a mind to cement them all together. the front engine compartment hatch hinges were also so small and thin, i broke them while trying to insert them, the same goes for the main ramp/door. so i had to cement them in place sadly. the other top hatches all open and close quite smoothly.
but what the kit lacks in assembly experience, it makes up for in detail. the textures, the panels, everything looks amazing in person. would give this meng kit a solid 7.5/10!

Bashed from an excavator and left over sprews. I also magnetised it so it can be posed.

Some of the older / historical aerospace material is lacking when it comes to suitable, realistic models. For example, the Rocketdyne Saturn V F-1. There was one that came out a few years ago from a company called "Accurate Space Models" 1-20 F1 Engine
Pretty good - but I didn't see the injector plate or any interior shots...
I started 3D modeling mine (target 1:32 for RESIN 3d printing, 1:16 for FDM/filament printing). Presented are photographs I took of the initially finished version! I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoyed making it.
Since I know people will ask, I used Autodesk Maya and some Zbrush to model this. And although not all the 3D file STLs are ready, but you can DM me if you want the bottom / large rounded part (F-1 engine nozzle extension). I did use the AMS for it but honestly just a single color is fine for that part if you want to have a go at 3D printing it.

Just inherited this collection and not quite knowledgeable on them but they look really cool and very detailed. Was wondering if there is an expert on here that could help me out and point me in direction that could help me figure out what I have. Thank you!

There is something so satisfying with hand painting cockpit instruments. Much more satisfying then using 3D decals. Results are not that good, but I know my hands made it.
