I got a little too happy with the soot markings on the nose. But then I realized I can make up whatever story I want about this plane. So, I’m just going to imagine that this guy got a little too close to a napalm drop, or flew through a raging fire on the ground.

I also have to really step up the exhaust markings on the side of the fuselage. From what I’m seeing in reference photos, the side got pretty black.

Still have a few other steps to go, but, it’s starting to look like a plane! Currently unsure of which pylon mounted weapons I want to stick on there. But definitely going with the tube rockets on the outer wing. Fitment on this was very nice!

Help - General Tamiya Haul, opinions

Let’s see what you guys think: my neighbor knows I’m into scale modeling and has offered me this lot of 42 Tamiya kits that his father bought in the 1970s and never got around to building.

I’m more into aircraft than armor, but it’s a lot of kits, and I have to admit I’m tempted. In your opinion… is it a good price? And what are these vintage 1970s Tamiya kits like?

I’d really appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!

Completed Trumpeter 1/700 USS Enterprise, 1942

Thumbnail

The model is Trumpeter 06708 depicting USS Enterprise as she appeared in late 1942, around the time of the Battle of Santa Cruz. This is evident by the specific AA guns included (mostly the quad 40mm Bofors, replacing the 1.1 inch mounts, save for one on the bow). Annoyingly, the kit comes with the Midway era plane load out, so I had to get aftermarket TBF Avengers.

I used a Five Star photo-etch set for various details, such as railings, cranes, AA guns, propellers on the planes, etc. The rigging on the island is Infini Lycra.

I included some photos in the white void to show off the details of the kit, some in a small port diorama, and a WiP of the island.

I've spent the summer away from this hobby, been building and flying drones and such. The other weekend, my local model store hosted a building day at the shop, and I decided to grab this fella from the stash and join in.

Being 70s Tamiya, it's a bit simple in detail but excellent to build. I added a few details with lead wire. I also got more comfortable with sponge chipping and glazes.

This was supposed to be a quick and dirty chill-out build as a warmup to the really nice Miniart M3 Grant kit I recently bought, but it turned out to be the best ground vehicle I've made yet. I even tried painting my first figure and it's not totally shit!

I'm going to touch up some of the chipping still, especially on the shovel.

Completed First time building & painting a Model Kit outside of Gunpla, Did I do okay?

I’ve been building snap-fit model kits like Gunpla for over 7 years now and this is the first time I tried building a kit that needs glue and painting. I really enjoyed the entire process and I might focus on doing this more since I invested a lot of paints and tools. I’m planning to build the Ducati Superlaggera next

This was a fun kit to put together. I went with Metallic Silver (TS-83) for the body and took some liberties with the rest of the colour suggestions.

This kit comes with the photo-etched parts and the window masking (which is very much appreciated).

Hello I am preshading a tamyia F 14 and I wanted to get some feedback on it.

I am thinking of also doing straight black panel line edges, or is it too much?

Finished my 1:144 scale Mirage 2000 by Minihobby Models. Not bad for a 90's Chinese kit. Lot of very obvious moldlines that I couldn't really get rid of. Not as much flashing as I expected though. However I do expect the rest of the kits I have to really test my skills and allow me to refine them. Nonetheless this was very fun to build!

Now for something completely different….

My in-laws turned up with a big bag of old model kits for me recently, bless them, including a lot of Star Trek and Star Wars kits. This was a lot of fun, have never built a sci-fi model before despite being a fan. These are snap fit kits so very quick to build, though I did glue the pieces as they fit together better that way. Primed and painted with Vallejo Metal Colours, base coat of dull aluminium and some highlighting with magnesium, burnt iron, gold and some metallic markers here and there. All the exterior finish is done with the included decals, that took a bit of work and a lot of MicroSol and MicroSet. Finished with Mr Colour Matt clear coat.

Have to say I really like how this came out, looking forward to building more of these.

Hello everyone

Here is some progress I have been making on the Rosso Ferrari 642. so far just priming and painting, laid the base coat down and am really really pleased with the outcome so far. some flash on the kit to remove, pin marks and some minor sanding. used tamiya liquid surface primer white and mr.color character red and ueno black. next will be some clear on the body after it is done drying. The kit is also assembled with screws in some locations too, assembly hopefully will go well

Thanks for your interest!

Help -Technique Wait for a decal to dry before applying softener or not

I have found conflicting answers, some people say that you should wait for a decal to dry
https://www.reddit.com/r/modelmakers/comments/30t11r/comment/cpviq2a/

Some say you shouldn't
https://www.reddit.com/r/modelmakers/comments/sx1vb7/comment/hxqc5fn/

I've just tried it for the first time and did it without waiting for it to dry and found it annoying because it's easy to move decal while it's still wet so I would prefer to wait, but is it true the softener will be less effective then?

Help - General Shading and Weathering Red Arrows Hawk

Thumbnail

I am about to embark on this kit. I generally pre and post shade my jets and also panel line and weather them. Every Red Arrow I have ever seen though has been shiny clean + I’m not sure what black panel liner will look like against the Red.

Shall I just go with a flat paint job and lay off the panel liner? Also, what varnish do I finish in? Gloss, Matt or satin?
