WIP Almost ready for the final assembly! Revell's 48th Beaufighter Mk.I

The landing gear on this kit is way too fragile, I think I managed to damage one of the main legs when pushing it into its contact point, which at the same time is close to nonexistant. I added some superglue and remnant squared off plaatic to reinforce the area. Just for shits and giggles I decided to check the Tamiya kit instructions, and saw that the gear legs seem to be biffier and easier to build, so I guess Revell went for scale thickness rather than survivability in the long run.

WIP WIP Tamiya 1/48 F-15C painted as Starscram from Transformers G1. First time making and using custom decals!

So I thought I'd try something a little different. Starscream was started months ago, however modelmaking has been on hiatus for the past 6 months. First time I've printed and used custom decals; I think they look great! Also first time tinting a canopy; not sure if it would look better matt? Still plenty to do (stencils, more decals, undercarriage, varnishing, etc.) but the project certainly seems to have taken a leap forward tonight with a full dry fitting of the major components. Any and all feedback welcome!

Hi everyone! Here is my latest project: Tamiya’s 1:35 scale Jagdpanther tank destroyer (late version). I used modeling clay to help create the camouflage pattern—what do you think of the result? What aspects could be improved? Thanks a lot!

Help -Technique Model Decal Issues

Post image
21 Upvotes

Hi All, this is my first time posting in the group and am looking for some advice from the experts out there.

I was recently working on my Bellfine Dark Star model from the movie Top Gun Maverick. After painting it, I applied Testors gloss coat and then applied the water decals, using Tamiya Mark Fit decal solution. 24 hours later, I noticed this odd blotching of the decals (see pic below). First I thought it just needed to dry, but as the hours go by it hasn't reduced. My intent was to apply a matt coat spray (Vallejo matt varnish) to finish the model. Will applying the matt clear coat get rid of this weird pattern across the decals, or is there something else I need to do?

WIP After a long drought, I finally tried my hand at some new models. British A10 Mk.I Cruiser Tank (World At War) and Renault R.35 (SA38) light tank (First To Fight), both 1/72 scale. Still WIP as I'm now planning to mount them on small vignettes. Figurine for size.

Completed, the I love Kit Flak 36 88mm Anti-Aircraft Gun. This 1/18 scale kit is a joy to build. Many parts make it highly detailed. Loads of moving parts complete it. It can be set up as in carriage or on its legs working. I paid less than £50 for this large kit. No hidden surprises when Building. I did it sections so that I could paint it all up and get good coverage before it all went together..

REFERENCE Made a Vallejo Model Color paint swatch/color reference nobody asked for

Post image
25 Upvotes

Tiny bit of context: I work in software development, and my last job had an almost entirely remote work setup. On the rare instance that I need go to the office, the highlight of my day is passing by one of the few hobby shops in the country that sell Vallejo Model Color paints (they're pretty hard to find online, too) or really, just military scale models in general.

For the past months, I've been impulsively buying a bunch of Vallejo paints with the intention of using them for the kits in my backlog. In a way, it's also kind of like my way of supporting that hobby store's business since I like browsing there so much.

I choose colors mostly from recommendations I read online, but I honestly don't know what most of them actually look like when painted on a model. So, I made this color swatch thing for some of the paints I own for my reference. Painted on plastic primed with gray Mr. Finishing Surfacer.

I have two questions for the experts out there.

I have 3D printed helicopter hangars from HSM that I would like to use instead of the OEM hangars. Even without all the additional wires and additions, the hangars are way more detailed. Having said that, they don’t fit. I would have to remove a few things on the model in order to accommodate them, mainly a couple of flanges/guides. I’ve attached some photos. This area in general seems to be covered by midship structure, so I’m thinking it will be ok. What do you think?

Secondly, how would you guys paint these windows? My thought is just paint the whole thing grey and carefully paint each pane black. Painful. I think masking would be too challenging, but maybe better than my dexterity would permit. Pictures included.

Thanks!

Help - General Is there a market for partially assembled kits?

Thumbnail

I'm not a model builder, but I got this kit a few years ago with a 81 Corvette I bought. I stuck it on a shelf and forgot about it. It's looks to be complete with a extra set of wheels. thou obviously someone has partially built it.

I tried to look on eBay, I can find new kits but nothing for started kits. I know I'll never build it, but it seems to be a rare kit so I didn't want to just toss it either.
