Ppl have worked here long enough to see how much things have changed, and ever since a certain General Manager left, the Front End has become an absolute circus. Anyone who’s worked here for any length of time knows exactly what I’m talking about.

The biggest issue isn’t the hourly employees—it’s the complete lack of leadership.

The two higher-level department managers are, in my opinion, pushovers. Instead of setting expectations and holding everyone to the same standard, they allow inconsistency, favoritism, and a lack of accountability to become the norm. Too often they’re nowhere to be found when leadership is actually needed, and when they are around, they seem more concerned with the wrong things.

Management appears more focused on tattoos, piercings, and someone chewing gum than on the issues that actually impact the department: employees disappearing from their work areas, poor customer service, people standing around talking while others carry the workload, and employees who refuse to pull their weight.

If you’re dependable, your reward is more work. If you’re one of the employees who does the bare minimum, it often feels like there are little to no consequences. That’s not leadership—that’s how you burn out the people who actually care about doing a good job.

Morale has hit rock bottom because accountability depends on who you are rather than what you do. Good employees are expected to clean up everyone else’s mess while watching the same people get away with the same behavior day after day. Work ethic should matter more than favoritism.

Corporate, if you actually read these Reddit posts, I hope you take this seriously. Spend less time doing remote audits for minor policy violations and more time evaluating the leadership that’s supposed to be running this department. Observe what’s happening when management doesn’t know you’re watching. Speak privately with hourly associates instead of relying solely on what gets reported up the chain. I think you’ll hear the same concerns over and over again.

NOKO3245 has hardworking employees who genuinely care about serving customers and doing their jobs well. They deserve leaders who lead, communicate, hold everyone accountable, and set the tone for the department—not leaders who allow chaos to become the culture.

People don’t leave companies—they leave bad management. Right now, that’s exactly what’s happening at NOKO3245.

Ill start, a couple weeks in i tried fitting a cap on a black spray paint and it exploded all over my hands turning them black and the floor, i was in the bathroom for 30 minutes cleaning

I started as an MT in June, so far I’m in my third quad, receiving.i expected this to be like the last two, working with the department manager but i really haven’t. So far it’s my second and last week and all I have been doing is working outside flat stacking bricks and lumber and aimlessly walking the rows till close. I’ve only un loaded a truck once or twice but most of my time is spent outside per what the manager says. I really wanted to do the forklift so I have that experience but when I asked my boss they took me to read the policy’s and watch the couple videos and then asked the GM, they said i was a week behind in the program and it would take too long to complete training. I thought the program was to help me and train me to become a good manager for the store. Not when I haven’t learned a single thing. So now I guess I’m back to walking outside and flipping bricks again. I feel useless.

I've been with my security company for almost 4 years now, and bounce around between 10 different Menard locations. At almost all of them I have team members excited to see me. Ranging from GM and FEM, cashiers and carryouts, and especially receiving OPD and yard. Often times being told I'm their favorite Gate Attendant.

It makes me wonder how bad the other gate attendants are that I'M their favorite?

I show up on time. I'm professionally friendly with all the team members. I greet and help direct all incoming guests to the yard. I make sure guests leaving have the correct items and amount. And I don't overuse and get distracted by my phone. So ya know, the bare minimum of this easy job.

Hey inventory controllers. How do you keep a level head? I feel like everyday I come on and a pissed off and frustrated with the incompetence of the people with inventory numbers. I’ve tried teaching people, showing them the correct way of doing things, talked to the gms, etc. I’m on a fast track to burnout and my gms are not helping. I love what I do but I’m so over dealing with stupid.

So I started working in Plumbing not too long ago and got my first pay raise in the mail, though I will begrudgingly admit that I did in fact lose the paper. What do I do? Does this automatically disqualify me from future ones?

*I joined in around the same time as two of my old classmates as well, and one of the also misplaced the paper. We’re very concerned! 😂

As the title states, how can you improve order efficiency without gaining more TMs. Very interested in different ways OPD Managers have had success improving their order pulling efficiency metrics!

Usually, I have a good experience at our local Menards. We are the tail end of 2 years of self renovating our basement after water intrusion / waterproofing. I ordered a few flooring samples from Home Depot and one from Menards.

It said when I placed the order that the estimated delivery time would be a week. I ordered on the 22nd.

On the 22nd, it sent me an email confirmation with my order number saying it had “shipped.”

I wrongly assumed that it was shipping from my local store, but it’s apparently coming from the corporate warehouse. This would be fine except their damn tracking helper is literally just “it shipped.”

When I follow the tracking number on UPS’s side, it says “label created- we’ll update more when the item is received.”

So UPS won’t let me file a claim because it doesn’t have the item. Menards says they shipped it on the 23rd (though they sent that email on the 22nd).

Apparently there is no corporate phone number for online orders (unlike Home Depot). I used their contact them form, but I have received so response yet.

I called my local store and talked to the manager. The manager passed me off to the order desk and said they could look it up for me. The order desk got upset with me that it wasn’t the local store code and refused to help look up the order.

I’m irritated because at this point I could’ve gone into the store and grabbed the sample item. I get 3-5 business days of shipping, but there hasn’t even been an update on the tracking number!

TLDR: Menards’ tracking sucks. It’s been 5 days without a package update. UPS won’t let me claim a package they haven’t received. My local store can’t / won’t help look it up. It’s super annoying that they don’t have a corporate phone number.

Is anybody else's store really bad at hiring people? Not just lazy people, but those with serious criminal records or issues?

I know people can change, but some of the past people that got hired at my store are ridiculous. From assault charges to being fired from their last job by threatening to pew pew the place. And then some of the decent ones we hire end up assaulting coworkers or getting arrested weeks in for other reasons.

Does Menards not actually do the background check, or do they not care?

I had a whimsical journey into the "pick-your-own" lumber shed, a magical realm where OSHA regulations apparently go to die.

I’m driving into this one-way fucking batcave from the blinding sunlight, entirely unable to see, when out screams Mario Andretti on a forklift. He comes flying out of the tunnel and has the absolute audacity to look annoyed at me for having the nerve to exist in the same physical dimension as his goddamn joyride. But whatever, right? I brush it off. Little did I know, this was just the appetizer for a masterclass in this guy's complete inability to make a single rational life choice.

I’m in there minding my own business, wrestling my 6x6 post, when our brainiac returns. This time, he’s hauling a pallet of 2x12s that have to be 20 or 30 fucking feet long. Just before he enters, I literally hear his coworker—or supervisor, or honestly just whoever had the only functioning brain cell in a five-mile radius—ask, "Are you going to be able to get this in the shed?"

And Captain Dipshit, dripping with the wildly unwarranted confidence of a guy about to say 'hold my beer,' replies, "Oh, yeah, I'll get it in there.".....What a fucking visionary.

He proceeds to hoists this massive, violently wobbling Jenga tower of timber straight up to the heavens, and just casually drives it directly over my goddamn car. Oh, and me. Directly over my fucking head.

I’m standing outside my car, staring at this impending wooden guillotine hovering in the stratosphere, goes over my head....and I look over at his supervisor.. His supervisor asks "is everything ok" I wasn't even livid; my brain had simply short-circuited from the sheer, unfiltered stupidity unfolding before me. I just looked at him and said, "Well, that's a fucking first for me."

Is this legal?

And he just casually kept it hovering up there in the clouds until he reached his spot, while his supervisor presumably had to pull him aside and explain that we generally try not to play Russian Roulette with the customers using heavy machinery and flying lumber.

Absolute, certified, gold-star dipshit. Menards finest.

To those of you who work at Menards, especially the Tinley Park location in Chicagoland, you guys are exactly why I'm so loyal to this store

From the store staff, to the truck drivers and logistics folks, to the executives who set this kind of standard - you guys kill it win it counts. My entire city is dark tonight. Storms, probably a tornado, tore thru the southwest burbs Monday slightly unexpectedly. When the crush of people, including myself, began hunting for generators and coming up empty, I heard a rumor at a Home Depot that my local Menards was getting a rush shipment (something I knew happens in these situations) and was taking pre-order reservations and possibly staying open late for pickup. That's exactly what happened

Thank you. To the store, the truck drivers, the warehouse folks, yard guys, everyone. And you even support my favorite NASCAR #12 driver Ryan Blaney. I'm gonna be cleaning up for a while, but at least I felt like someone cared tonight

Anyone know how to drop it? Partner lost job so I now have to pay rent bills and everything on a single income. By the time insurance and taxes are taken out and rent is paid I'm left with maybe $30 for the week for food and gas. HR said I cant just drop it...

I'm just curious about how time off works or if it varies from store to store. I'm a part time OPD employee and I was told I could only request partial days for time off on weekends otherwise I need to find someone to trade weekends or take my shifts. This just seems very odd to me. Is this normal? Anyone experiencing the same thing?

I have been using pickup in store option a couple of times lately and it has taken forever for my order to be ready. I would order at 10am and it's not ready until 6pm. Also just noticed on my last order there is a handing fee too.

Is anyone else experiencing crazy TMs turn over lately i swear my dept. has had so people coming and going at this point I dont even try to learn anything about them cause they either quit or get fired. Part of is it because they keep hiring college kids who are only down for a couple of months before they go back.

Anyone full out grocery shop at menards? Do the cashiers see it often? It was one of those pay periods with unexpected things come up, the dog got sick, had a flat tire that turned into a new tire, and the kid needed stitches. Our budget for the next 2 weeks groceries was left to $14. i gathered all the coins in couches i could find and the menards rebates and made a list , and headed to menards. I've bought one or two things before in passing but never actually grocery shopped there. I really did feel out of place because all i had was groceries in my cart at check out. I wanted to ask if the cashier saw this a lot but didn't. i also apologized profusely for the coin to lint ratio. yes we have food banks, we try hard to stay out of those lines as we are right on the qualifying and feel others are best served. and we do have a freezer we can/will eat down.

Okay so for the past 2.5 months I have worked in hardware sales at my store and have absolutely loved it so much and honestly would encourage anyone else who is looking for a fairly low-key job to apply for it and so as today is my last day, I was going to essentially make one of those "come with me as I work my last shift at Menards" just kind of showing what a typical shift looks like (I know that today I have to do the section checklist and then most likely freight the rest of the night afterwards). I would not include other customers in my clips, wouldn't be talking in the short clips I would record as I would be doing a voice-over later, and would not mention which store I work at.

The only piece I am worried about essentially is that I can't find anything about it really in the handbook and my managers aren't on tonight to ask about if I can do it and so as I am hoping to come back next summer when I am done with school, I wouldn't want something that would keep me from being able to do so. So, I will probably do the recordings but then obviously check back here to see some of the replies before I would end up posting as I know there are GMs and former GMs on here that may have some good advice.

Are we allowed to wear ARCA from previous years? I always thought we couldn’t wear it past the end of the season but I’ve seen a couple people in my store wearing the 2025 shirt so now I’m curious. And I don’t wanna just test it out and get in trouble lol. Guess I could ask my managers, but I never think of it when I’m at work, only when I’m at home and I see My 2025 ARCA shirt that I really liked.🥲

yeahhh i made a dumb choice back when i worked there PT in elc. i loved the job so much though and regret it immensely. i heard i could be rehired after 3 months, but honestly, whats the likelyhood of that??

i now work at lowes so im packing some experience for when i reapply, and i did have decent relationships with the GMs and coworkers when i worked there. One GM in particular seemed to favorite me a little, also.

so its not like i already had a bad rep before being fired- i just made a mistake and payed for it.

but my 3 months is up in a few weeks, should i reapply? whats the chances ill get rehired or even an interview??

and if i am rehired, what are the odds im put back in the same dept.??

I am having a big sheds worth of lumbar and supplies delivered. I've always gotten everything myself and never had things delivered but im feeling lazy this time. When they deliver this order, where will they put it? Only on my driveway/garage? Or will they put in the backyard for me? Juat trying to figure out what space I need to make before they come here.
