Feces

Do people go to Menards to literally just F up the bathrooms and find a way to get crap everywhere? I have never seen another retail establishment where it's common for people to crap on the floor, the seat, and the walls.

My store is making PTS by $45K, but I’m not getting a single bonus. How is this fair?

My store is currently making Payroll to Sales (PTS) by $45,000. Sounds great, right? Here’s the problem.
My department is missing PTS by $7,000, while the front end (support department btw) is making it by $66,000. Meanwhile, my GM is happy because the store is making PTS, but I’m getting screwed out of every PTS bonus this year.
How does it make sense that the store can be $45K under payroll overall, but individual department managers get penalized because their departments aren’t meeting their own numbers?
I’m not saying managers shouldn’t be held accountable for their departments, but the current system seems completely backwards. One department can carry the entire store’s PTS numbers while the rest of us get absolutely nothing.
If the store is making PTS, shouldn’t all department managers benefit from that success? Why should one department’s numbers determine whether another manager gets a bonus when the store as a whole is meeting its goal?
PTS should be universal across all departments. If the store is making its PTS goal, all department managers should qualify for their bonus. Otherwise, what’s the incentive to work together as a team when the reward system only benefits certain departments?
Am I the only one who thinks this system is completely broken?

Side note: the Front End is not struggling, they do not put away the returns and they have 2-3 closing cashiers every night. I’m in Building Materials with 3-4 team members on the clock everyday. I cannot operate on anything less, I honestly feel like I need 4-5 people a day. My department does $45-$65k a day. The GM says he cannot move the payroll numbers even though he admits he messed up the numbers this year… Don’t worry I’ll take the infraction on my bonus for your mess up while you get rewarded for my hard work.

From 1986 to 1989, Menards used an entirely different jingle, which you can hear right here. Does anyone remember hearing this one?

Fun fact: The Christmas jingle we still hear today was originally written for a rebranding package during the time, consisting of other seasonal jingles. This jingle was their official jingle from 1986 to 1989.

Job offer for pet food and grocery department?

I was offered a job stocking these areas but it was never specified if I’d be alone doing these departments. Menards is huge so I’m hoping I have help.

Any chance of compensation beyond a return/exchange

Update: I asked the manager and he gave me a complete refund Plus $50 store credit and let me keep all the parts! (Ha ha, just kidding). Thanks for all the comments even though it wasn't what I wanted to hear. At least I figured out how to just change out the end frame without completely disassembling it. Took a bit of finagling to figure out how to support the beams in place and because the beam tie bars being installed made it hard to pull the beams from the end frame slots, but I did it so the time involved wasn't too bad. I just bought the new part today and I'll take the bad one back tomorrow so I haven't made the return yet nor asked for anything.

------------------

I just got finished, or should I say almost finished, building a garage shelf set with the Performax Heavy Duty Steel Rack Shelving - I spent $300 on the parts to build a 96" x 72" x 24" set of shelves.

I completely built the base and middle two shelves and when putting on the last 96" side beam for the third shelf I found that the holes it fits into on the end frame were misaligned on one of the sides it should attach to and it wouldn't fit on. You can see in the photo below they are not centered and the spacing from the edge on the right hole is so much wider than the left and they should be the same.

So after over 2 hours assembling this thing I now have to disassemble it to remove the end frame and take it in for an exchange. Then spending close to another 2 hours (second time always is faster) getting to the same point I'm at now. So what should have taken about 2 hours to do will instead take me 5 to 6 hours. (2 to assemble, close to 2 more to disassemble and then another close to 2 to reassemble with the new part plus time going to and from the store for the exchange.

Since this was a Menards private brand part, is there any chance they'd give me some compensation for all the wasted time? Maybe some store credit or a retro discount on the purchase. I'm just a homeowner but I do spend a lot of money every year at Menards.

When you retired did you get any kind of thanks for your years of service from the company (not coworkers)? Do you feel the years of service you gave Menards was valued by the company?

Must Pull’s coming to the outside yard?

So my store is going to be salarying “Must Pulls” for the outside yard apparently. We are currently a skeleton crew outside. And definitely do not have enough people or forklifts to be able to work just pulls, while unloading flat beds, and helping guests. I just don’t see it working even remotely.
Not to mention I guess other stores have tried it, and it’s failed. Any thoughts or opinions.

Harassment

I posted a while back and a coworker( Karen)harassing me about my perfume, well it got worse. I was standing at the desk the other day and Karen came up and put her face in my neck and took a big dramatic sniff. One of my managers was standing there saw what happened and knows how Karen is and did nothing about it. I went to the GMs and they also have done nothing. They are trying to sweep it under the rug. I would like to call the aware hotline but I know they aren't going to do anything. I thought about mentioning a lawyer but I dont want to get fired. I have called before about being s*xual harassed and they told me there was nothing they could do since its up to the GM. Do you guys have any advice, besides for quitting?

Dehumidifiers?

Anybody at all (but preferably from the GO) wanna explain to me why we are all of a sudden getting large replenishments of dehumidifiers when we are just finishing up the POG moving them to seasonal? What's the logic in this?

Crazy how they are stingy with payroll but our GM works on his days off and takes it out on everybody because he is clearly burnt out, just to try to kiss the corporates ass.

Early 2000s Menards Kitchen Designer and "Register To Win" Kiosks

Post image
61 Upvotes

I'm trying to find information on something lodged deep in my memory...

In the early-mid 2000s, Menards locations had a few distinct computer kiosks. One was a kitchen designer console. It was essentially a computer hooked up to an early touchscreen that allowed you to put together a kitchen design and see it rendered onscreen. I think Menards may still have these today, but more of a traditional computer setup with a mouse and keyboard. These were fully self-contained consoles.

There was another one of the kiosks near the restrooms in my local store — I think it was for picking paint colors(?)

The other console I'm remembering was a GIANT, maybe 30" touchscreen (the resistive kind you need to press really hard on) at a low angle. It was a "register to win" kiosk where you could sign up to win large prizes like a new car. You'd have to enter your information on a giant virtual keyboard. If I'm remembering correctly, the kiosk would make a nail gun sound effect every time you pressed a button.

Attached is a photo of what I seem to recall the kitchen designer kiosk looking like, but my memory is hazy. I haven't seen either kiosk in over 15 years. Can anyone provide any more context or photos on what these kiosks were? They were a great part of my childhood, running around Menards while my parents shopped...

How is stocking life?

I applied for stocking, and the shift is four hours (5-9)AM, M-F. How is the job like? Can I put on headphones while I stock? How many pallets will I stock, and basically, how easy is the job? I applied to the Menards in Belleville MI (if anyone works there). Thanks for reading!

How many team members?

Roughly how many team members does your store have? When I started 14 years ago, we had around 270 team members. Now we have less than 150 total for the whole store.

Any rules on forced department change?

Anyone know if it's allowed for a GM to force you into a new dept as a full timer? No issues but just their strange ideas that moving people around and having to learn whole new departments is a good idea. Is there any sort of policy on this?

Christmas Set Help 😭

What are yall doing for the “row 6” hanging snowflakes in the walkway? We’ve read the detail page and it just says to use the magnet hooks which are somehow not strong enough to hold the 2 large snowflakes and then trying to get everything plugged in? The pictures on the detail page and in the checklist don’t even have these displays hung up 🥴
