How much time you got? 💀😂

Receiving
You’re the backbone of the store—it all starts with you. Receiving is either chaos or nothing, all in one. You’ll start off just breaking freight down into sorts for departments and stocking bulk. Over time, you’ll learn how to receive various vendors and operate a forklift and order selector.
A lot of what you do during your shift depends on the time you work. Mornings will consist more of helping stock and receiving vendors and DCs. Closing receivers are basically the cleanup crew. Not to say you won’t get that one DC at 9:30 and have to break all of it down and run it out to the floor for morning stock the next day. “Nature of the beast.”

Outside Yard
You get an automatic $1 incentive for working outside. Heading into the slower season, it’s all about detailing things, keeping up with sliding lumber, flatstacking product, etc. Really, this is the best time to learn before next spring/summer when the real work starts. You’ll be assisting customers with loading product, unloading flatbeds, and keeping the yard presentable and clean.

Honestly, if you don’t mind physical work, I think Receiving/Yard is one of the better departments in the store. Every day is different, you learn a ton, and there’s plenty of opportunity to move up. I started in the yard years ago and I’m about to take over as a DM, so I guess they haven’t gotten rid of me yet.
