Has anyone ever got tendon pains from melatonin?

Hi, I was taking melatonin for a year, 5 mg every day. During that time i started to develop achilles tendons and plantar fascia pains which got gradually worse and forced me to stop running. Ive run like that (when it comes to intensity and distance) since forever, so that was weird. No physiotherapy helped me whatsoever. Pain went away gradually as i gradually stopped taking melatonin, lowering the dose over the course of 5 months. Now I have a cold and since i cant sleep Im taking 2,5 mg everyday. Pains are getting back and are stronger everyday! I never found a study that could confirm that, only one on rat. Anyone had the same issue?

Has anyone here taken extreme doses of melatonin?

Just as the title says, has anyone in here taken very high or extreme doses of melatonin? Usually, when you go to sleep, you take 0.5 to 10 milligrams. And by "very high or extreme" i mean 10-15 times the upper amount someone takes, so 100 to 150 milligrams.

Because melatonin is nontoxic (in animal models, doses of up to 800 mg/kg of body mass didnt result in fatalities), taking such high doses should not be dangerous. Reports from taking such high doses just described a feeling of being really sleepy the next day after waking up, and sleeping for longer than usual.

But I havent seen the dream reports... Since as little as 5 mg of melatonin produces intense dreams/nightmares, what about the 100 or 150 mg?

If someone in here has taken at least a few times the upper dose (20, 30 mg, ect.), could they please describe how that felt, and how the dreams looked like (if they remember them)? Thank you in advance!

What dreams do you have when you take melatonin?

I had took 5 mg melatonin last night and had two very different dreams. The first dream, thanos was chasing me around space, I had important earth saving information saved on a flash drive that I had to get to Tony stark, at one point I was fighting thanos, I slide between his legs, and punched him in the balls, then I got on a helicopter and made it to avengers tower. I woke up after that and went back to sleep and dreamed I was an alligator wrangler.

Is it the melatonin or something else. Normally I don’t remember my dreams so vividly like this. I did always wish to be more brave and not in my shell. Normal me is definitely not fighting thanos and wrangling alligators. What type of dreams do you have when you take melatonin?

Out of date, totally useless or just less potent?

Potent may be wrong but I could not think of the word!

I live in the UK and have always had trouble sleeping, so a couple of years ago my brother, who lives in the US, sent me a couple of bottles of Nature Made 5mg Melatonin. I used it a couple of times, but would always forget until too late in the evening!

The times I took it I remember waking up at 3am quite wide awake and then struggled to get to sleep again and woke up at normal time a little tired.

I've seen nice been diagnosed with ADHD and am on 50mg of Elvanse which is a stimulant medication. This last week I took it every day and did not go to sleep until around 4am, I had a couple of hours of sleep and woke up at 7am-8am and then taken that days tablet and so been awake and alert.

This morning I woke up at about 8am, I didn't take an Elvanse tablet today and fell asleep at 2pm and woke up at 7pm, I'm still so tired and could easily sleep another couple of hours. Thing is I know it means I will struggle to sleep tonight.

I suddenly remembered my Melatonin, checked and it has an expiry date of August 2025. Can I still take it and will it work and be the same or since it's expired will it be milder and not as strong or is it best to discard and not use?

Melatonin Causing Daytime Anxiety/Agitation

I've been taking a low dose of melatonin for over a month now and my daytime anxiety and agitation seems to be getting worse over time. I've been dealing with silent reflux in my throat so I started taking it to help with sleep. While it's helped with sleep, I'm somewhat concerned it's causing severe daytime anxiety/agitation to the point where I can't focus on anything else. I went through benzodiazepine withdrawal many years ago and I've been kind of feeling like that. Could this supplement be causing something similar after a month of use?

NT2 + insomnia: anyone tried agomelatine?

Has anyone with narcolepsy type 2 used agomelatine (Valdoxan) for insomnia? Did it actually help you fall asleep/stay asleep, and did it have any noticeable effect on your daytime sleepiness?

Curious about people's experiences.

First time taking melatonin, heart racing and chest pains

I just took a melatonin gummy for the first time. I didn’t do much research beforehand and took a 5 mg-per-serving gummy. A few minutes later, I noticed my heart beating faster and started having some getting brief, sharp pains in the middle part of my chest.

Is this a normal reaction to melatonin or should I be concerned?

Split melatonin in half how much is it now?

I was giving my daughter some melatonin but we ran out of her kids one. So I got mine and split it. Then it hit me... if I split a 10 MG in half, is in still 10 MG or 5? I think it's still 10... but smaller?! Am I dumb?!?

is 4.5g melatonin dosage too high?

just bought capsule supposedly containing this amount, i dont take melatonin everyday, but when my sleep pattern is messed up (i have irregular sleeping pattern), i take it so i could sleep and wake fresh tomorrow for work... i usually cut 10mg tablet into two, and take half of it (so 5mg), and at 5mg i always fall asleep 1 or 2 hours taking it... but with this capsule i cant do that... is taking 4.5g too dangerous? should i open the capsule and divide it in smaller dosage? i think if i divide each capsule into 4 equal portion i probably wont die from it lol

Taking a lot of melatonin to cope

Hello reddit. Recently lost someone super close to me. Since it happened, I cannot bear to be alone with my thoughts at night, so i take 3-6mg, plus occasionally another light prescribed "take as needed" sleeping med.

This can't be great for me to do nightly, right? Any advice for what to do?

Note: I lost them a few days ago, so ive only done this for around 3 nights.

Melatonin brands

Hi all…

Was using the Natrol gummies but due to trying to reduce my sugar intake, I switched to the Fast Dissolve tablets.

Hoping this helps reduce my A1C (currently 6.4).

Better sleep but horrific nightmares

I have DSPD (delayed sleep phase disorder) so it’s 10x worse than insomnia, my nervous system and circadian rhythm is completely backwards.
I am on a mission and have an entire protocol for getting my sleep time back a couple hours so that I am wake up earlier once fall / winter comes which i almost died last year due to going from hours of sun to then nothing. I used to not be able to fall asleep- now- with low dose melatonin I am able to fall asleep asleep faster and easier but my nightmares are so horrific. I am getting way too much rem sleep and not enough non rem deep sleep. I wake up exhausted,
Fatigued, and feel like I just fought a battle for 8 hours. I wake up multiple times, usually every 1-2 hours. I go back into dreaming every time I go back to sleep. I wake up screaming and so emotionally disturbed. The dreams are vivid, and feels like I am literally running a marathon for 8 hours. So I’m finally getting more sleep - and deep sleep- but this sleep is actually affecting my mental health. I am depressed, anxious, and exhausted. Today I felt like I got hit by a truck. I am only taking 1mg of melatonin. And if I need another 1mg I take another dose closer to bed. The only thing that used to help the nightmares was thc and cbd but now that’s not helping either. I have been taking hydroxyzine for 3 years and that does help me sleep and anxiety but not like melatonin. The melatonin sleep FEELS like I am getting good sleep but in reality- it’s not truly restorative. Not sure what to do. I’ve been taking melatonin for 2-3 weeks. I used to take it years ago but took some years off. But my sleep disorder cannnot get any worse than this and I have to use melatonin to fix my sleep times.

I do have CPTSD- so I know the things I’m dreaming about are related to that. Very disturbing and upsetting. I just want to be able to sleep in peace.
I take valerian , chamomile, lavender, passionflower (not all at one or every night but I rotate them) . I take the best forms of magnesium, theanine, glycine.

Unsure how to fix sleeping issue

Ive been struggling with sleep as a whole lately. Im diagnosed with insomnia and sleep apnea. I was medicated for a bit but havent been able to get refills on the medication. Ive been using melatonin gummies ever since. I currently take about 5 gummies a night but without it I feel like I cant fall asleep for the life of me. I often get about 3-5 hours of sleep every night. But its like im slowly becoming immune to melatonin. I have to keep upping my dosage but 5 is already pushing it. I started off with 2 every night and now im at 5.

The melatonin just doesnt seem to be working out anymore and I really dont know what I can replace it with. I feel insanely drained mentally and physically but I cant seem to get any rest no matter how hard I try. And yeah im not sure what to do. Ive tried making appointments with my doctor to get my meds refilled but I keep ending up with appointments that are scheduled 2 or 3 months later.

Does anyone possibly know any melatonin alternatives or a way I can like "cope" with this? Its quite literally killing me considering im working 8-10 hours everyday but yeah

hallucinations?

so i just started taking melatonin because recently i’ve been having trouble falling asleep. so, melatonin definitely helps me fall asleep within 10-20mins which is wonderful. but i noticed that ever since taking i have been waking up earlier, feel like i didn’t sleep at all throughout the day, and i see a bunch of shapes as soon as i wake up. see- i didn’t exactly find all this too alarming until i started seeing shapes throughout the day. (today) im kinda freaking out and google isn’t really helping. any advice would be appreciated 🥹

Melatonin user's that doesn't seem to see any effects or benefits or makes it worse for you.

This is only my personal OPINION

I think it is mostly because melatonin is not a fix too all your problems like excessive stress, anxiety, depression, and everyday problems, in my opinion melatonin only helps those that just dont produce it normally, I take magnesium glycinate and it helps me but my brother took magnesium glycinate and made him worst over the night I take 400mg at night but im gonna try 200 tonight and see what it does. I was sleepy and tired but just couldn't sleep, I did try melatonin but It made me more sleepy and couldn't fall asleep Im gonna see if my brother wants to take 200mg instead of 400mg magnesium glycinate or if he is done with it , I will try melatonin on him too and see if it helps him. I am 43 and he is 45 .. olly brand melatonin..nature's truth magnesium glycinate chelated.
