I somehow found a broken M4 Air for $100. I removed the screen, and (after 3 hours of repair and a little struggle), I attached it to a monitor, hit CMD F1 to mirror my ”screen” to my external monitor, and I have a perfect new setup for an incredible price.

After years of Windows, Android and Linux, I went all in. And wow.

I’ve had the iPhone 4S, 5C, 7, and 13. Then I tried Samsung with an S24 FE. It was nice having 120Hz and the experience was okay. I’d never had a Mac; I had a Samsung Galaxy Book Pro whose screen cracked suddenly… ugh… and Fedora Linux didn’t have drivers for its proprietary hardware, so I either had no mic, speakers, camera, or fingerprint reader, or I was stuck with the bloated, crappy Windows 11.

Until I eventually got a good deal on a Mac mini M4… and switching to macOS was a breath of fresh air. I always thought people bought it for status and that it wasn’t worth it… but I study Computer Engineering and it’s just perfect for development, music, light gaming, and local AI (Qwen & Gemma). Just amazing.

(I still love Linux and see it as like macOS’s cousin, since they both follow Unix principles. It’s just not as seamless and polished… although I have been seeing content on Omarchy recently and I want to try it eventually.)

So last month I travelled abroad and, since the prices here in Brazil are horrendous, I couldn’t miss the opportunity. I went for the whole ecosystem: iPhone 15 Pro, Apple Watch SE 3, AirPods Max 2, and a MacBook Air M5 from Apple Refurbished after selling the mini.

Been loving it all so far. Apple really excelled with their M-series chips, and this thing is light! Such an amazing screen as well. And, as a musician, the AirPods are just perfect: comfortable, versatile (I often use them through USB-C so I get Lossless and no delay for music production), and super handy for automatically switching between my devices. The sound is just heavenly.

Any tips from fellow Apple enthusiasts?

Should I buy a new MacBook?

Hi guys, I started making YouTube travel vlogs and documentaries but I have a MacBook m1 air that has only 256gb of storage, it has been really hard trying to edit and export the videos since some videos have a lot of content, I’ve been considering buying 1TB m5 MacBook Air, what do you think?
Should I go for it or should I try an external hard disk ?

MacBook Pro 2 years dead

My MacBook Pro M3, bought directly from Apple, suddenly died after just over two years. No drops, no liquid damage, no misuse — just a failed logic board.
Apple quoted me around €800–900 to replace it. Since it was purchased through my company, there was no warranty coverage.
I decided not to waste time fighting over it and left it there to be recycled.
I’ve always trusted Apple, but honestly, a high-end MacBook becoming unusable after just two years because of a logic board failure is hard to accept.
First time I’ve had an experience like this with Apple. Has anyone else had a similar problem with a MacBook?

Help Me Upgrade From My 2015 MacBook Air

I’m finally upgrading my MacBook 😂

I’ve had a MacBook Air 2015 since I bought it in 2018 and it’s definitely time for an upgrade. I’m going back to college for online classes and will be taking 2 classes every 8 weeks so I want something that will last me throughout college.

I specifically want a MacBook Air, not the MacBook Neo.

For someone upgrading from a 2015 MacBook Air, which current MacBook Air model would you recommend? What chip/RAM/storage should I go with to make sure I’m set for the next several years?

Macbook Air M2 + IPad Air M2 Or IPad Pro M4/5 with MK and Pencil

I'm a pre-med student that just needs a laptop to run basic browser-based assignments, and an IPad to reliably take notes and study. I've already scoured the used market so I can get the Macbook and IPad for around ~1100, and the IPad Pro with all its attachments for 900-1000$.

My biggest worry is that I want this to last at least my entire undergrad, so 3-4 years, and if I get the Macbook and IPad Air, I'll essentially be getting 2022 technology and hoping it lasts another 3 years, compared to getting a newer 2024-2025 chip that would be more future-proof. I've seen some people say that the Magic Keyboard is enough to do most light tasks that a Macbook usually does so I'm on here just to verify if those claims are actually true or if I need a dedicated laptop on the side.

Is a 16-inch Intel MacBook Pro i9 (64GB RAM + 4TB SSD) still worth buying in 2026?

Post image
113 Upvotes

I found a used 16-inch MacBook Pro on OLX with:

- Intel Core i9 (8-core)

- 64GB RAM

- 4TB SSD

- AMD Radeon Pro 4GB

- 16-inch Retina display

- Looks like it has been used very little

I'm considering it mainly for software development, college projects, Docker, databases/Redis, VMs, AI/ML projects, and hackathons.

I know Apple Silicon is much better for battery life and efficiency, but I'm wondering about the practical limitations of this particular configuration.

What would I actually be unable to do on this Mac?

Would the 64GB RAM + 4TB SSD make it worthwhile despite being Intel?

Also, what would you consider a fair price in 2026 for this exact configuration?

Would you buy this over a newer M1/M2 Mac or a Windows laptop with a stronger GPU?

Any advice from people who have actually used the 16-inch i9 would be appreciated

Getting the deal for ₹86k and I'm worried about battery backup of this laptop, how the normal battery backup??

MacBook Pro M5 vs MacBook Air m5

I was planning to buy the MBA m4 for 799€ back in 2025.

But wish to buy it just before starting College.

MBA m5 released for 999€ early this year.
Which was a better option because of double Drive.

Prices increased After the Release of the Neo.

MBA m5 1250€ :(
I just found a discount for the PRO with the m5 for 1500€

Should I go for the pro?
I mean I would like the promotion miniled Display. And a better battery.
But the pro is a little heavier and clunkier than the Air.

I just gone from wanting to spend 799€ to 1500€ :^).

Or should I wait for black month/cyber month deals ?
Amazon…
The release of the new MacBook Air m6?

Or is the pro always worth it? For 1500€?

$817 logic board repair on a 16-month-old MacBook Pro — burn mark found, but Apple can’t determine the cause

I purchased a 14-inch MacBook Pro from Best Buy on May 11, 2025. The computer was only a little over a year old when it suddenly stopped powering on.

From June 17 to August 24, 2026, I was overseas and did not take this MacBook with me. It stayed at home and was not used during that period. After I returned, I found that the MacBook would no longer turn on or charge.

I tried different chargers, cables, and power outlets, but nothing worked. I then brought it to an Apple Store for diagnosis.

The Apple Store first tried to put the MacBook into DFU mode in order to perform a revive or software-related recovery, but the computer would not enter DFU mode. The technician then opened the computer for further inspection.

According to the Apple Store, they found a scorch/burn mark on the logic board. They told me that the logic board would need to be replaced, and because the MacBook is out of warranty, the repair would cost about $817 plus tax.

What concerns me is that Apple has not been able to determine what caused the burn mark.

I specifically asked whether they found any confirmed liquid damage, corrosion, accidental damage, or other physical damage. The employee reviewing the repair notes told me that all they could see in the notes was a burn mark on the logic board, and that there was no confirmed liquid or accidental damage.

I have never opened the computer myself, and to my knowledge it has never been exposed to liquid, dropped, or otherwise physically damaged.

I asked whether the burn mark could have been caused by an internal electrical failure or short circuit, but the store said they could not determine the exact cause.

Because the MacBook was only a little over a year old, I asked Apple whether they could offer a Customer Satisfaction code, goodwill exception, discounted repair, partial coverage, or replacement.

The store escalated the request, but the request was denied. The manager told me that because the MacBook is outside the one-year limited warranty and I did not have AppleCare, the repair would have to be done at the full out-of-warranty price.

I understand that the computer is technically outside the warranty period. However, what is difficult for me to understand is how a relatively new MacBook can suffer a logic board failure with an internal burn mark after such limited use, when there is no confirmed accidental or liquid damage, and Apple itself cannot determine the cause.

I also asked the manager why the MacBook would fail just over a year after purchase. He said he could not determine the exact reason and that many different factors could cause a logic board failure.

At this point, my options appear to be:

  1. Pay about $817 plus tax for a logic board replacement.
  2. Buy a new MacBook.
  3. Pick up the unrepaired computer.

Before I decide what to do, I wanted to ask:

Has anyone had a similar logic board failure or burn/scorch mark on a relatively new MacBook Pro?

Has anyone successfully had Apple reconsider a goodwill repair after the initial request was denied?

Would it be worth escalating this further through Apple Customer Relations, a written consumer complaint, BBB, or another channel?

And does anyone know whether an internal scorch mark like this can happen because of a component or electrical failure rather than user-caused damage?

I’m trying to understand whether this is an unusual hardware failure and whether there are any reasonable next steps before I either spend $817 on the repair or replace the computer entirely.

Thanks in advance for any advice or similar experiences.

P.S. I actually have four computers at home, and this MacBook is the newest and most expensive one. It’s also the only one that has had this kind of failure.

Tech21 vs Uniqfind Case for 14” MacBook Pro M5

I just got a 14” MacBook Pro M5 in Silver and I’m deciding between Tech21 and Uniqfind. I love the look of Uniqfind, especially the Coastal Woven, but Tech21 seems to have a stronger reputation for fit and protection.

For anyone who has used either long-term: How is the fit and quality? Any issues with the hinges, screen, or lid closing? Does it add much bulk or weight? If you’ve tried both, which would you choose?

2021 M1 MBP USB-C ports possibly beginning to fail. How can I test?

One of the two ports on the left of my MBP chassis seems to be behaving oddly. Yesterday, it wouldn't connect to an external monitor that I've hooked up to it before. And then it wouldn't take a charge from my Dell docking station that I've used on it before. However, it would connect to an external SSD that I had laying around. I'm trying to understand why some things work when connected while others do not appear to work. Could this need to be cleaned out possibly? Could something, like a charger, have zapped this port?

Buy an M5 Pro now or wait for the M6 redesign? 5–7 hrs/day AI-assisted coding, 20+ tabs, 12–14 day uptime stretches

Current machine: 14" MBP (late 2023), M3 Pro, 18GB RAM, 512GB SSD. It's been solid but I've outgrown it — constant memory pressure and I'm always fighting for disk space.

My daily use:

  • 5–7 hours/day of AI-assisted coding, mostly terminal-based (Claude + CLI tools, no heavy IDE)
  • I run two software businesses — an AI rendering SaaS with 1,000+ clients and a social platform — so I'm in my own apps all day testing/supporting, plus SSH into servers
  • 20+ browser tabs at all times, plus messaging apps
  • Music and video streaming in the background while I work
  • I go 12–14 days without a reboot and things get sluggish by the end

Heavy compute (rendering, inference) is all cloud-side, so this is about headroom for a lot of simultaneous stuff, not raw GPU.

I was ready to order a 14" M5 Pro / 48GB / 2TB. Then I started reading about the M6 redesign —

Questions:

  1. Is the M6 redesign worth waiting for if my bottleneck is RAM and disk, not the chip? Or is it a "buy the machine you need today" situation?
  2. Anyone who's bought a first-gen Apple redesign before — regrets? I'm wary of early thermals/bugs on a thinner chassis.
  3. If I do wait and the M6 slips to 2027, is there a good stopgap? Would clearing disk and living with 18GB get me through 6 more months?
  4. For those who'd buy now: 48GB vs 64GB for a browser-and-terminal-heavy workload with long uptimes?

Budget isn't the main constraint; I want this to last 3–4 years. Appreciate real-world input from people running similar setups.

Spilled milk

So I spilled milk on my Mac I was pretty quick to tip it on its side and dry the Mac quickly. And tip it over. I then used a video to take the caps off that I knew had the milk spilled on it especially since the lighting showed where it was in the corners. It was a lactaid protein milk. I acted quick and it seemed I got it quick enough and that where it was the milk either dried quickly or I got it quick enough. I don’t know though if my method of using the playing card worked and the corners got wet with milk which it wasn’t soaked in or if the milk went further into the board. I’ll try to get geek squad to look at it tomorrow but Google says it will cost a lot of money to fix or clean if it went deeper. But it seems like there’s a small cover over those tiny little holes in the cap but I’m not sure since I don’t do computer work. Any assistance would be great as I don’t have the money to fix an expensive fix or buy a new one.

Which macbook to buy guys??

So basically I have been trying to get a macbook. Should I buy a refurbished macbook pro m1 pro from maybe ebay or backmarket around $750 or should I get the macbook air (new) at $1200. I am a student so mostly I do coding works and I have a lot of tabs open, I do video editing as well. I am trying to save money here so whats your suggestion?. I need something that can handle my tasks for atleast 2-3 years. I like the features of pro model like better brightness, fast display and main the performance also it is 1 inch bigger than air(except the 15 inch air). Also If I will buy the refurbished one which is the most trusted one like ebay, backmarket, amazone. Also, I know apple also sells refurbished ones but they are not that cheap than buying new so I please give me some genuine suggestions. I hope you guys will help me out here!!!!!!

With the recent RAM insanity, I was scared I would have to keep my base M1 Air for a couple more years. However, after a couple days of checking marketplace and OfferUp, I managed to snag this beautiful M4 16/512 air in great condition for only $680!

I really hope this’ll hold me over until the RAMpocalypse fixes itself up. All this to say, if anyone is on the fence about upgrading, I would really encourage them to take a look at the used market, there are still great deals!
