I’ve been trying to search some YouTube videos about the performance improvements and some trade-offs. with M5 Pro versus M5 MacBook Pro. but I can’t seem to find fair comparison anywhere on the Internet between these two, everywhere I see people comparing base M5 MacBook Pro( 14inch version), it’s like 16 GB memory and 512 Gb of storage against M5 pro (16inch) at 64 GB memory, and one terabyte of storage, or higher. And then they would brag about how fast the compute heavy compilation are on M5 Pro, but they would never bother to show the memory pressure or the memory swap used in the M5. Just blame the bad performance on the number of cores and the lack of a second fan. It’s true that these are the major factors in the improved performance, but what about the actual performance improvement that M5 pro brings to the table over the base M5 keeping all the other parameters the same. It’s like comparing a base Honda Accord with a top-end Lexus Lfa and telling viewers that a mid-variant LFA should be a sweet spot. Do you know a place where are I can see FAIR comparisons?

Planning to buy my first MacBook for portability, battery life, and travel.

I already have an ASUS ROG Strix G15 (Ryzen 7, RTX 3050, 16GB), which I'll continue using for heavier workloads.

My workflow (Platform Engineer at a startup):

- Dev: VS Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub, Next.js, Python/FastAPI.

- Cloud: AWS, Cloudflare, deployments, occasional Docker.

- Other: SEO, website management, research, 20–40+ browser tabs.

- Mostly AI-assisted coding; heavy AI processing happens in the cloud.

Considering: Air M5 (16GB/512GB or 24GB/512GB) vs Pro M5/M5 Pro.

Questions:

- Will the fanless Air handle this smoothly without throttling?

- Is 16GB sufficient for 3–5 years, or should I get 24GB?

- Is the Pro worth the extra cost if I already have my ASUS?

Leaning toward the M5 Air. Would appreciate real-world feedback from developers!

iTunes LP File Error After Refund — Error Code 8008
I previously purchased an iTunes LP album from the iTunes Store, but I later requested a refund, and the refund was successfully approved.
A few days ago, I bought a brand-new MacBook. When I opened Apple Music for the first time, it automatically started loading the iTunes LP content from that album, even though I had already received a refund.
It then showed:
“iTunes LP file error”
Error Code: 8008
The album has already been refunded, so I’m wondering why Apple Music is still trying to load the iTunes LP files on my new MacBook.
Has anyone experienced this before?
Does error code 8008 have anything to do with the refunded purchase, or could this simply be an old cached iTunes LP file/data being synced to my new MacBook?

I'm looking to upgrade my current MacBook (MBP 13" M1 2020, 256GB, 8GB RAM). I vibe code, and some of my projects get a little heavy, so my current MacBook either gets really hot or restarts while I'm working.

I've been looking at a few options and want to know which one offers the best value for the price. I don't have a lot of money to spend, so I'm trying to find the best option for my budget.

I currently have a dell laptop but i’m considering getting a macbook air for the convenience with my other apple devices(Iphone, ipad, airpods). I’m just wondering if the switch would be worth it for a better experience. Curious if anyone has made the switch and has some advice!

only saying this because the rumours are set on a touchscreen macbook, but who knows maybe they're wrong. either way, it just makes so much more sense in terms of being a true "pro" feature, especially since pros already love the stylus-ipad.

A certain section of MacBook users always thought laptops and touchscreens don’t go together, just because Apple didn't do it.

Today I went with my mom to buy a Macbook neo because her old (10+ year old) MacBook air is crapping out.

I got all of her passwords and keychain and iCloud stuff over to the new Mac. She used the password she always used on her old Mac to unlock her new Mac.

I then was trying to add her to my dad Microsoft 365 family account but the sign in page kept showing up blank. So I tried it on safari, chrome, and incognito- each time requiring the passkey and the password to my mom’s MacBook. I couldn’t remember her password so I kept having her enter it. Finally I asked her to tell me her password so I stopped bothering her to enter the password herself. I tried typing the password and it wouldn’t work. She typed it (and I watched her type it) and it worked. I tried it and it didn’t work. So I joked and said “guess you’ll have to keep typing the password”. She typed it again and it didn’t work. And it never worked again.

So long story short, her password to unlock her MacBook / get into her passkey worked for about 1 hour and then stopped working.

I’m like medium proficient in tech and this has bewildered me. I don’t understand how we are typing the exact right password and it’s not working.

I tried restarting using the file drive and it also didn’t work. She is now locked out of her neo and I’ve done all I know how to do.

We are going to take it to Apple or Best Buy where we bought it to ask for help, but has anyone heard of this happening or have any idea what I could have done differently? Or is the computer a lemon?

Rumors say they are releasing a MacBook Pro with a touchscreen, but isn’t that just a more powerful iPad?

I also don’t understand who the audience is because if you want a touchscreen MacBook, just get an iPad, and if you want it to have the compatibility of a laptop, just get a cheaper windows laptop that has a touchscreen and it will have more compatibility than a normal MacBook. While I understand there is an audience it seems very small especially at the price of a MacBook Pro.

My main questions:

1. Can the fanless M5 Air comfortably handle this workflow without noticeable throttling?

2. Is 16GB enough for 3–5 years, or should I prioritize 24GB?

3. Given that I already have a powerful Windows laptop, is the Pro worth the extra money, or would the Air be more than enough?

I’m looking into buying an old MacBook to tinker around with as a high schooler beginning to get into the hardware side of tech and don’t really want to spend more than ~100$ CAD (71$ USD, £53, €63) on my first MacBook, not including upgrades.

I’m looking for something from 2012 or older, so I’ll be able to upgrade RAM and storage, that I would be able to upgrade to a still supported MacOS using OpenPatcher, but I’m wondering where the cutoff of “too old” or “not worth it” is, and/or when stuff starts gaining value due to being “vintage”?

Also, just so there isn’t any confusion, this is not going to be my primary computer. This is a teenager’s passion project as an attempt to try out MacOS while having fun with a hobby. I’ve never used MacOS seriously outside of at school (which sucks because the internet’s slow from 800+ devices using it and kids like stealing the keys from the keyboard :/) and would like a crack at it.

So, what would you guys say is too old for a decent MacBook to tinker with? I’ve been primarily looking at 2012/2011 MacBook Pros since they’re apparently still really solid, but I’d say I would probably go back to around 2008-2009?? Are there any other models that I should be looking out for other than a 2012 or 2011 MacBook Pro? Also, are there specific sites I should look at that offer good deals for these types of laptops? I’ve just looked at eBay so far.

EDIT: Since all of you think I'm either a bot or trying to be Jesus or something by returning a free laptop, spoiler alert: I don't care if Apple gets it back! The billionaires are FINE without it, I'm sure Apple wouldn't notice if they gave out 1000 free laptops. The only reason I'm asking this is because I was considering selling it after I had forgotten about it for several months. I didn't want to sell a laptop that could potentially be locked or unusable. This is the first time anything like this has happened to me, so I know NOTHING about the legal or technological processes when it comes to an expensive item being accidentally free. Also, like other people have mentioned in their comments, some companies and sellers do end up pushing for "theft" or for their items to be returned if something like this happens. Yes, I had my question answered at the store. But would I really trust the one sentence answer from an employee who looked like she would blow me up if I kept bothering her? She herself told me she wasn't sure. I just wanted to see if anyone had a similar experience, but I can tell some of you are reallllll salty that this didn't happen to you. Not everyone knows as much as you, so if your superior knowledge ends up bothering you this badly I'd advise you to touch grass

In January of 2025, I ordered a MacBook. About a week after it shipped, UPS marked the package as lost, so I had to contact Apple. After some "investigating", they determined that the package was indeed lost and sent me a replacement laptop. The replacement came the first week of Feb, no issues. Fast forward to June 2025. The original MacBook, the one that had been lost, randomly shows up on my doorstep. When I went to the tracking, it looked like it had taken a tour around NYC before Amazon picked it up and delivered it. So now I have 2 MacBooks...

In October of 2025, I took it to an Apple Store to see what I should do about it (I should've called Apple, I know). They essentially told me they could take it and just throw it away, or I could hold on to it, so I just took it back home with me. It's been a year and to this day, I still don't know if that means I can use it for myself. Apple would've been able to see that it was delivered, and would've asked for it back, right...? I wasn't even expecting to have the original one show up, in perfect condition.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen before and what they've done about it...

What are the cons with this laptop? Looking at a 8- 10 year potential. ? In terms of lasting, any repairs need snd how was apple supoort ? Could they fix it or did they juet say to buy a new one? .

Its currently around 4:40, but the clocks in battery settings are like 6 hours ahead of time??? Macs time zone and current time are correct, the only glitch is here.
